Overview
This section provides an overview of the Maxwest ASTRO A66 smartphone, detailing its key components.
Device Components
The device features the following components:
- 1. Front Camera: Located at the top center of the front display.
- 2. Volume Keys: Used to adjust the device's volume.
- 3. Power Key: Used to turn the device on/off and lock/unlock the screen.
- 4. Recent: Accesses recently used applications.
- 5. Home: Returns the user to the home screen.
- 6. Back: Navigates to the previous screen or menu.
- 7. Rear Camera: Located on the back of the device for taking photos and videos.
- 8. Flash: Provides illumination for the rear camera.
SIM Card Installation
Your device is equipped with SIM card slots that support 4G (LTE) connectivity.
To Install the SIM Card
- Ensure the device is turned off and placed face down. Locate the notch at the bottom corner and use a thin, hard object (like a fingernail or credit card) to carefully run along the seam to loosen and lift the cover until it detaches.
- Insert the proper SIM card into the designated SIM card slot. Refer to the "SIM Card & Micro SD Card Installation Guide" for detailed instructions.
- To activate or deactivate a SIM card, navigate to Settings ⚙️ > SIM management and use the SIM card sliders. To manage data connections, go to Settings ⚙️ > SIM management, select "Data connection," and choose a SIM card with 4G capability.
Keys/Touch Points
- Power Key: Press and hold to power on/off. A single press activates or deactivates the screen when the device is on.
- Home key (O): Touch to return to the home screen. Touch and hold to view recently opened apps.
- Options key (): On the home screen, touch to set wallpaper, manage apps, and access system settings.
- Back key (<): Touch to go back to the previous menu.
Charging Battery
New batteries are shipped partially charged. For optimal performance, charge the battery fully before first use, and follow a regular charge/discharge cycle.
Charging Your Battery
Charge your phone using one of the following methods:
- Connect the phone to a computer using the USB cable.
- Connect the USB cable to the phone and the AC adapter, then plug the adapter into an electrical outlet.
A battery icon ? in the status bar indicates charging progress. A full battery icon appears when charging is complete.
Warning
- Do not remove the battery while the device is charging.
- Use only the provided AC adapter and USB cable.
- Note: For safety, the battery will stop charging if it overheats.
Audio Profile/Sleep Mode
Intelligent Keyboard
From the home screen, swipe up to open the App Drawer, select "Settings ⚙️," then "Sound." Here you can adjust audio settings like Media volume, Call volume, Ring & notification volume, and Alarm volume. You can also change your ring tones.
Sleep Mode
To conserve battery power, activate Sleep Mode:
- On the home screen, touch "App Menu" and select "Settings ⚙️."
- Select "Display."
- Select "Sleep" and choose a time interval from the list.
Screen Lock
Secure your device by setting up a screen lock:
- On the home screen, touch "App Menu" and select "Settings ⚙️."
- Select "Security & privacy," then "Device Unlock."
- Choose your desired lock type and follow the on-screen prompts.
Phone Features

Main Menu & Its Functions
Select [menu] to enter the main menu and view available features:
- Clock: Set alarms.
- Browser: Browse the internet using Google as the default search engine.
- Calculator: Perform calculations.
- Calendar: View and add events.
- Camera: Capture photos and videos. Features an 8 MP High Definition camera with LED Flash and Face Detection. Can switch to Camcorder mode to record video.
- Contact: Access your digital phonebook.
- Gmail: Set up POP/IMAP email accounts.
- Phone: Make phone calls.
- Files: Browse, view, modify, and install files.
- MAX SIM KIT: View phone plan information provided by the operator.
- Sound Recorder: Record audio.
- Videos: View video files.
- Gallery: An offline gallery for viewing photos.
- Google Play: Access entertainment and apps (requires internet connection).
- Messaging: View sent and received messages.
- YouTube Music: Stream music.
Phone calls/Texting
To Make Phone Calls
- Touch the phone icon ?.
- Select a contact from your list to initiate a call.
Composing text messages
Maxwest phones offer automatic text correction and word suggestions as you type. The messaging interface displays suggested words above the keyboard.
Cut, Copy and Paste
To copy or move text: Touch and hold the desired text content to bring up a magnifying glass ?. Drag the selection handles to highlight the text. Then, choose "Cut," "Copy," or "Paste." This feature is useful for copying text from web pages, emails, or messages.
WLAN
Turn on WLAN
Maxwest supports WLAN Direct, enabling devices running Android™ 14 (Go edition) or later with compatible hardware to connect directly via Wi-Fi without an access point. This allows for speedy data sharing and communication over longer distances than Bluetooth.
Wi-Fi Direct Setup
To connect using Wi-Fi Direct:
- Navigate to Settings ⚙️ > Networks & internet > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Preference > Advanced.
- Tap "Wi-Fi direct" to access the feature.
- Tap "Search" to display available devices.
- Select the desired device (e.g., "DIRECT-5a-HP M227f LaserJet").
- Tap "Connect" to establish the connection. A confirmation prompt may appear.
Camera
Capture images or record videos to share with family and friends. The camera interface allows you to switch between front/rear cameras, select video mode ▶️, and take pictures ?.
Connecting to E-mails
Log into your e-mail accounts
Access your emails by logging into your accounts from the phone. From the Home screen, select the "Gmail Go" application. Enter your email address and password, then tap "Next." Select the account type (POP3/IMAP/Microsoft Exchange) and enter the necessary server settings. Manual setup options are available.
Compose new:
- Press MENU & select "Compose."
- Enter recipient email addresses in the "To" field. Matching contacts will appear.
- Once typing is complete, select "Send," "Save as draft," or "Discard."
- Reply options include "Reply," "Reply all," and "Forward."
Delete message:
- Go to the Inbox to view messages.
- Touch and hold the message you wish to delete.
- Select "Delete."
File Transfer
Connecting Smartphone to PC
Connect your smartphone to a computer using the USB cable. Once connected, slide down the top menu on your phone, tap "Android System," and then "Transfer Files." A new storage location named "ASTRO A66" will appear on your PC. You can review and transfer files between devices. Disconnect the device from the PC when finished.
Note: Photos are saved in the "DCIM" folder, screenshots in "Pictures," and music files in the "Music" folder.
Screen Capture
To capture a screenshot, press the Volume (-) and Power buttons simultaneously. All captured screenshots are saved in the Gallery.
Warning

Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with Class B digital device limits per FCC rules, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. It generates, uses, and radiates radio frequency energy. If not installed and used per instructions, it may cause radio communication interference. If interference occurs, try reorienting the antenna, increasing separation, connecting to a different circuit, or consulting a dealer/technician.
SAR Tests: SAR tests are conducted using standard operating positions accepted by the FCC/ISEDC at the highest certified power level. Actual SAR levels during operation may be lower, depending on proximity to base station antennas.
Body Worn Operation: This device meets FCC/ISEDC RF exposure guidelines when used with designated accessories or accessories with no metal, positioned at least 10 mm from the body.
Non-compliance with these restrictions may violate RF exposure guidelines.
