General Precautions: Ensure AC power compliance. Install horizontally with adequate ventilation (3-4 inches). Do not stack equipment. Disconnect from power when unused for long periods or during thunderstorms. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources. Protect from moisture and strong magnetic/electric fields. Use for personal use only. Allow 2 hours for temperature acclimatization after cold storage.

Battery Disposal: Batteries contain chemicals harmful to the environment; do not dispose of in household trash.

CATV System Installer Note: Cable ground connection must comply with NEC Section 820-40.

Notes on Discs

DVDs offer enhanced audio/video with Dolby Digital and MPEG-2. Regional codes must match for playback.

Unsupported Discs

LD, CD-G, CD-I, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM discs, and DVD discs purchased abroad may not play. A <WRONG DISC FORMAT> or <CAN'T PLAY THIS DISC PLEASE, CHECK REGION CODE> message may appear.

Copy Protection

Many DVDs use copy protection. Connect the player directly to your TV, not a VCR, to avoid distorted pictures. This product uses Macrovision Corporation technology.

Disc Recording Format

Does not support Secure (DRM) Media files.

  • CD-R: Use 650MB/74 min discs. Over 700MB/80 min may not play. Ensure discs are properly "closed".
  • CD-R MP3: Supports ISO 9660/Joliet format. MP3 file names max 8 characters, no spaces. Use data rate >128Kbps. Consecutively written multisession discs recommended.
  • CD-R JPEG: Supports ISO 9660/Joliet format. JPEG file names max 8 characters. Consecutively written multisession discs recommended.
  • DVD±R/RW, CD-R/RW DivX: Supports specific DivX formats. Check www.divxnetworks.net for details.

Remote Control

Detailed layout of remote control buttons (1-37) for various functions like DVD RECEIVER, TV, POWER, PLAY/PAUSE, ZOOM, SETUP, etc.

Remote Battery Installation: Remove cover, insert 2x AAA batteries (+/- polarity), replace cover. Precautions: match polarity, use correct type, replace both batteries, avoid heat.

Operation Range: Up to 23 feet (7 meters) in a straight line, up to 30° horizontal angle.

Connections

Speaker Setup

Positioning: Place speakers around the listening area. Front speakers face inwards (~45°). Rear speakers behind listening position, slightly downward. Tweeters at ear level. Center speaker at same height as front speakers.

Listening Position: 2.5 to 3 times the TV screen size away from the TV.

Connecting Speakers (HT-X50/HT-TX52/HT-TX55)

Connect speaker wires to the corresponding terminals on the rear panel. Ensure correct polarity (+/-). Keep subwoofer out of reach of children.

Speaker Installation

Tallboy Type: Assemble stand to speaker using screws (A, B).

Half Tallboy Type: Connect speaker to stand base using screw (B).

Wireless Rear Amplifier (SWA-3000)

Requires wireless receiving module and TX card. Connect TX card to main unit, rear speakers to module. Reset module if communication fails.

Video Output to TV

Method 1 (HDMI): Connect HDMI OUT to TV HDMI IN.

Method 2 (Component Video): Connect Component Video Output (Y, Pr, Pb) to TV Component Video Input.

Method 3 (Composite Video): Connect VIDEO OUT to TV VIDEO IN.

HDMI Function

Resolution Selection: In Stop mode, hold SD/HD button to select 480p, 720p, or 1080i. Ensure TV supports selected resolution.

Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): Allows TV remote to control Home Theater. Set Receiver to 'On' for audio through Home Theater, 'Off' for TV speakers. View TV, access Theater Menu/Operation.

Connecting Audio from External Components

AUX1 (Front Panel): Connect analog audio (MP3 Player) to AUX IN 1. Select AUX1 input using remote.

AUX2 (Rear Panel): Connect analog audio (VCR) to AUX IN 2. Select AUX2 input.

OPTICAL (Rear Panel): Connect digital audio (Set-Top Box) to DIGITAL IN. Select DIGITAL IN input.

Connecting FM Antenna

Connect FM antenna to FM 75Ω COAXIAL Jack. Move antenna for best reception.

Cooling Fan: Ensure ventilation holes are not obstructed to prevent overheating.

Operation

Before Using Your Home Theater

Remote Control for TV: Set remote to TV mode (TV button), then POWER. Enter TV brand code. Point remote and press POWER.

Disc Playback

Insert disc, press OPEN/CLOSE. Playback starts. Press STOP [■] to stop (stores position for DVDs), PLAY/PAUSE [▶||] to pause. Press PLAY/PAUSE again to resume.

Selecting Disc: Use DIRECT PLAY buttons (1-5) or DISC SKIP to select a disc.

MP3/WMA-CD Playback

Place disc, navigate albums/tracks with cursor buttons, press ENTER. Supports MP3/WMA files (not WMA-DRM).

JPEG File Playback

Place disc. Images display for 5 seconds. Use SLIDE MODE for slideshows. DIGEST button shows 9 images. Use cursor buttons to rotate/flip images.

DivX Playback

Supports DivX video files (.avi, .asf). Use skip, fast play, slow play, zoom functions. Select audio tracks and subtitles.

Playback Functions

Display Disc Info: Press INFO button.

Check Remaining Time: Press REMAIN button.

Fast/Slow Playback: Use cursor buttons.

Skipping Scenes/Songs: Use cursor buttons.

Repeat Playback: Press REPEAT button for chapter, title, track, disc, or random repeat.

A-B Repeat: Play a specific segment repeatedly.

Step Function: Move frame by frame.

Angle Function: Select different camera angles.

Zoom: Enlarge image areas.

EZ VIEW: Removes black bars from widescreen content.

Bonus Group: Access bonus content on DVD-Audio discs with a 4-digit key.

Navigating Pages: Use cursor buttons for DVD-Audio still images.

Audio/Subtitle Selection: Use INFO button and cursor/numeric buttons.

Moving Directly: Use cursor/numeric buttons to jump to scenes/songs/times.

Disc/Title Menus: Access disc-specific menus.

USB Host Play

Connect USB devices (flash drives, cameras, MP3 players) to the front USB port. Select USB mode via FUNCTION or USB button. Supports FAT16/32 file systems. Ensure safe USB removal.

Settings

Language Settings

Set OSD, Audio, Subtitle, and Disc Menu languages. Select 'OTHER' to input language codes (see page 63).

TV Display Settings

Adjust TV screen aspect ratio: 4:3PS (Pan&Scan), 4:3LB (Letterbox), or WIDE/HDTV. Select based on TV type and DVD content.

Parental Controls

Restrict playback by rating level. Default password: '7890'. Reset procedure available for forgotten passwords.

Wallpaper Settings

Set favorite images as background wallpaper during DVD or JPEG playback (up to 3 user settings). ORIGINAL sets Samsung logo.

Playback Modes

DVD Playback Mode: Select DVD VIDEO or DVD AUDIO for DVD-Audio discs.

DivX Registration: Register for DivX video on demand at www.divx.com/vod.

Audio Settings

Speaker Mode: Adjust settings for connected speakers (SMALL/NONE).

Delay Time: Adjust speaker delay for optimal sound arrival based on placement.

Test Tone: Check speaker connections by playing test tones.

Audio Settings: Adjust speaker balance and volume levels (+6dB to -6dB).

DRC (Dynamic Range Compression): Balances loud and quiet sounds for night listening.

AV SYNC: Adjusts audio delay to match video.

HDMI Audio: Toggle audio transmission over HDMI (ON/OFF). ON sends audio to TV speakers; OFF sends to Home Theater speakers.

Sound Field / EQ

DSP/EQ: Select sound modes (ROCK, POP, HALL, MOVIE, CHURCH, PASS) and EQ settings.

Dolby Pro Logic II Modes: Select MUSIC, CINEMA, PRO LOGIC, MATRIX, STEREO for enhanced audio.

Dolby Pro Logic II Effect: Fine-tune effects like PANORAMA, C-WIDTH, DIMENS.

Radio Settings

Listening to Radio: Tune FM stations using TUNER button. Preset stations using TUNER MEMORY. Auto/Manual tuning available.

Convenient Functions

Sleep Timer: Set the unit to shut off automatically.

Display Brightness: Adjust the front panel display brightness.

Mute Function: Temporarily silence audio.

Headphones: Connect headphones to the headphone jack for private listening.

Troubleshooting

Disc Tray Issues: Check power cord, power cycle unit.

Playback Issues: Verify region code, disc condition (clean scratches), rating level. Check for menus on disc.

No Sound: Ensure speakers are connected correctly, speaker mode is set appropriately (e.g., PRO LOGIC II for all speakers), disc is 5.1CH compatible, and audio language is set correctly. Check remote operation range, batteries, and mode (TV/DVD).

Remote Control Issues: Check operation range, batteries, and correct mode selection (TV/DVD).

Other Issues: Menu screen not appearing (check disc menus), aspect ratio problems (select correct mode), unit not working (power cycle, reset procedure for forgotten passwords).

Radio Reception: Ensure antenna is properly connected; consider an external antenna for weak signals.

Cautions on Handling and Storing Discs

Handle discs carefully to avoid scratches, fingerprints, and dirt. Store discs in a clean, cool, ventilated area, vertically. Allow for temperature acclimatization if moving from cold to warm environments to prevent condensation.
