Printer Not Found?
In many cases, you can resolve issues when trying to connect to a printer very easily. Please check the following:
USB Connected Printers
- Ensure that you connect the printer to the computer using the provided USB cable after the software has been installed. This allows the correct printer driver to be installed when you first connect the printer.
Network Connected Printers
- Ensure that the software is installed on each computer that will print to the LabelWriter printer. Then add the printer to DYMO Connect for Desktop via Add Network Printer on the File menu.
- For locations that use both Ethernet and wireless networks, ensure that the router is set to forward traffic between the wired and wireless networks.
LabelWriter Wireless Printer
- Ensure the printer is turned on.
- Ensure the router is turned on and the wireless network connection is functioning.
- Ensure the printer is connected to the same wireless network as your computer or device.
- Ensure the printer is not connected to a guest or public wireless network, as these types of networks have additional restrictions that may cause issues.

- Select one of the following print quality settings:
- Text - Uses the default print settings for most labels.

- Auto - Automatically determines print quality based on label content.
- Click Print.
About Labels
All DYMO label printers compatible with DYMO Connect software use genuine DYMO LW LabelWriter label rolls or DYMO D1 label cassettes. The only supplies required for the printer are labels. DYMO recommends using only genuine DYMO labels. For more information about labels, visit www.dymo.com. DYMO's warranty does not cover malfunctions or damage caused by the use of labels other than genuine DYMO labels. DYMO label printers use thermal printing technology, so you must use labels specifically designed and manufactured for this purpose. Thermal coatings used on labels other than genuine DYMO labels may not be compatible with the printer and may result in substandard print results or printer malfunction.
LW Label Rolls
LabelWriter labels come in a variety of materials, colors, shapes, and sizes, including labels for addresses, shipping, and folders. LabelWriter 550 series printers can only use genuine DYMO LW labels. Genuine DYMO LW labels support Automatic Label Recognition™, which allows DYMO software to receive information about the labels, such as the size of the labels used in the printer and the number of labels remaining on the label roll.
D1 Label Cassettes
DYMO D1 label cassettes come in a variety of colors, materials, and widths. LabelManager and MobileLabeler label makers use DYMO D1 label cassettes. The LabelWriter 450 Duo uses both LabelWriter label rolls and D1 label cassettes.
LW Label Rolls
DYMO LabelWriter printers use advanced direct thermal printing technology to print specially treated thermal labels. This means you never need to replace toner, ink cartridges, or ribbons when printing labels. Direct thermal printing transfers heat from a thermal print head to specially treated labels. The thermal print head contains a row of tiny heating elements that press against the treated label. As the heating elements come into contact with the treated label, a thermal reaction causes specific dots on the label to turn black. The only supplies required for DYMO label printers are labels. DYMO recommends using only DYMO labels. The lifespan of labels depends on how the labels are used. LabelWriter thermal labels are prone to fading under the following conditions: prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or fluorescent light, prolonged exposure to extreme heat, contact with plasticizers (e.g., labels applied to plastic binders). In their original packaging, LabelWriter labels have a shelf life of 18 months. Labels used for short-term applications (envelopes, packages, etc.) will not experience fading. Labels used for marking files in a file cabinet will gradually fade over many years of use, but very slowly. If a label is applied to the edge of a notebook, and the notebook is placed on a shelf that is exposed to sunlight, fading will be noticeable within a few months. To extend the life of your labels, store them in their original packaging's black bag in a cool, dry place when not in use.
D1 Label Cassettes
MobileLabeler, LabelWriter 450 Duo, and LabelManager label makers use DYMO D1 label cassettes. D1 label cassettes come in various colors and materials and are available in the following widths: 1/4 inch (6 mm), 3/8 inch (9 mm), 1/2 inch (12 mm), 3/4 inch (19 mm), 1 inch (24 mm). The maximum width you can use depends on your label printer. Refer to the user guide provided with your printer for the label widths you can use. Visit the DYMO website at www.dymo.com for a complete list of label cassettes and dealers in your region who sell them. The only supplies required for the printer are labels.
