Safety

This section outlines national regulations, power supply, installation, cleaning, and other safety considerations.

National Regulations

The following subsections describe the national regulations used in this document.

Notes, Precautions, and Warnings

Text blocks in this manual may be accompanied by an icon and be printed in bold or italics. These blocks represent notes, precautions, and warnings, used as follows:

Power Supply

WARNING: The monitor should only be connected to a power source of the type indicated on the label. If you are unsure about the type of power supply in your household, contact your dealer or local power company.

The monitor is equipped with a three-pin grounded plug, a plug with a third (grounding) pin. This plug only fits into a grounded outlet for safety reasons. If your outlet does not accept the three-pin plug, have a qualified electrician install the correct outlet or use an adapter to ground the unit safely. Do not alter the grounding pin's safety feature.

WARNING: Unplug the unit during thunderstorms or when it is not used for extended periods. This protects the monitor from damage due to power surges.

WARNING: Do not overload multiple outlets or extension cords. Overloading can cause fire or electric shock.

For proper operation, use the monitor only with UL-certified computers that have appropriately configured outlets with a voltage of 100-240 V AC, at least 5 A.

The wall outlet must be installed near the unit and be easily accessible.

Installation

WARNING: Do not place the monitor on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table. If the monitor falls, it can cause personal injury and serious damage to this product. Only use a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacturer or sold with this product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Follow the installation instructions for the product and use the mounting accessories recommended by the manufacturer. A combination of product and cart should be moved with caution.

WARNING: Never insert objects into the slot on the monitor housing. This can damage components and cause fire or electric shock. Never spill liquids on the monitor.

WARNING: Do not place the front of the product on the floor.

If you are mounting the monitor on a wall or shelf, use a manufacturer-approved mounting kit and follow the kit's instructions.

Ensure sufficient space around the monitor as illustrated below. Otherwise, insufficient air circulation may cause overheating, fire, or damage to the monitor.

To avoid possible damage, such as panel detachment from the frame, ensure the monitor is not tilted downwards by more than -5 degrees. If the maximum tilt angle of -5 degrees downwards is exceeded, damage to the monitor is not covered by the warranty.

Recommended ventilation areas around the monitor when mounted on a wall or stand:

With Stand Installed:

Cleaning

WARNING: Clean the housing regularly with a soft, damp cloth.

Use a soft cotton or microfiber cloth for cleaning. The cloth should be damp and almost dry; avoid liquid penetrating the housing.

WARNING: Please disconnect the power cord from the product before cleaning.

Miscellaneous

WARNING: If the product emits an unusual odor, noise, or smoke, unplug the power cord IMMEDIATELY and contact a service center.

Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked by a table or curtain.

Do not expose the LCD monitor to strong vibrations or shocks during operation.

Avoid impacts or dropping the monitor during operation or transport.

Power cords must be safety tested. For Germany, it must be H03VV-F, 3G, 0.75 mm² or better. For other countries, use appropriately suitable types.

Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. Adjusting the equalizer to maximum increases the output voltage of earphones and headphones, thus increasing the sound pressure level.

AOC Monitors Panel-Pixel Defect Policy

AOC strives to deliver products of the highest quality. While advanced manufacturing processes and strict quality controls are employed, pixel or subpixel defects on monitor panels are occasionally unavoidable.

No manufacturer can guarantee panels completely free of pixel defects. However, AOC guarantees that any monitor with an unacceptable number of defects will be repaired or replaced under warranty. This policy outlines the different types of pixel defects and defines acceptable defect limits for each type. To qualify for warranty repair or replacement, the number of pixel defects on a monitor panel must exceed these acceptable limits. For example, no more than 0.0004% of a monitor's subpixels may be defective.

Additionally, AOC sets even stricter quality standards for certain types or combinations of pixel defects that are more noticeable than others. This policy applies worldwide.

Pixels and Subpixels

A pixel, or picture element, consists of three subpixels in the primary colors Red, Green, and Blue. Multiple pixels form an image. When all subpixels of a pixel are lit, the three colored subpixels together appear as a single white pixel. If all are dark, the three colored subpixels together appear as a single black pixel. Other combinations of lit and dark subpixels appear as individual pixels in other colors.

Types of Pixel Defects

Pixel and subpixel defects appear on the screen in different ways. There are two categories of pixel defects, and within each category, several types of subpixel defects.

Bright Dot Defects

Bright dot defects appear as pixels or subpixels that are always lit or 'on'. This means a bright dot is a subpixel that is noticeable on the screen when the monitor displays a dark pattern. The following types of bright dot defects are known:

Note: A red or blue bright dot must be more than 50% brighter than adjacent dots, while a green bright dot must be 30% brighter than adjacent dots.

Black Dot Defects

Black dot defects appear as pixels or subpixels that are always dark or 'off'. This means a dark dot is a subpixel that is noticeable on the screen when the monitor displays a bright pattern. These are the types of black dot defects.

Proximity of Pixel Defects

Since pixel and subpixel defects of the same type that are close together can be more noticeable, AOC also sets tolerances for the proximity of pixel defects.

Pixel Defect Tolerances

To qualify for repair or replacement due to pixel defects under warranty, a monitor panel in an AOC Panel Monitor must exhibit pixel or subpixel defects that exceed the tolerances listed in the web manual. The total number of defective subpixels on a monitor panel must not exceed 0.0004%.

Pixel Defect Type Acceptable Level
Bright Dot Defects
1 lit subpixel 2
2 adjacent lit subpixels 1
3 adjacent lit subpixels (a white pixel) 0
Distance between two bright dot defects* >=15 mm
Total number of bright dot defects of all types 2
Black Dot Defects
1 dark subpixel 5 or fewer
2 adjacent dark subpixels 2 or fewer
3 adjacent dark subpixels ≤1
Distance between two black dot defects* >=15 mm
Total number of black dot defects of all types 5 or fewer
TOTAL NUMBER OF DOT DEFECTS 5 or fewer

Note: * 1 or 2 adjacent subpixel defects = 1 dot defect.
