Important Safety Information

Please review and observe the following information. Failure to do so may result in injuries or material damage and will void any warranty commitments.

Child Safety

HCA Warning

This refrigerator contains R600a, a natural substance that is potentially flammable if exposed to fire. Take care not to damage the cooling circuit. In case of damage, do not expose the refrigerator to fire or ignition sources and ventilate the room.

WARNING: Do not drill, cut, or modify the refrigerator. Injuries may result if the refrigerant circuit is damaged.

Do not operate a damaged refrigerator. Consult your nearest DEFY service centre.

The electrical safety of the refrigerator is only guaranteed if the earth system of your home complies with national standards.

Repairs must be carried out by authorized persons only.

DANGER: Never plug the refrigerator into the wall socket during installation.

WARNING: Never dispose of the refrigerator in a fire. Do not dispose of your refrigerator with regular household waste. Contact local authorities for disposal information.

Placing and Installation

Transportation Instructions

  1. Transport the refrigerator only in an upright position with packing intact.
  2. Take care not to damage flooring, pipes, or wall coverings when positioning. Do not move the refrigerator by pulling the door or handle.
  3. When re-transporting, empty and clean the refrigerator. Fasten shelves and accessories securely with adhesive tape. Follow transportation guidelines printed on the package.

Installation Location

  1. Install the refrigerator in a place that allows for ease of use.
  2. Keep the refrigerator away from heat sources (stoves, geysers), humid places, and direct sunlight.
  3. Ensure appropriate air ventilation: at least 5 cm space from the ceiling and 5 cm from the wall. Use the supplied plastic wall spacers.
  4. If the floor is carpeted, elevate the refrigerator by 2.5 cm.
  5. Place the refrigerator on an even floor surface.
  6. Do not operate the refrigerator in ambient temperatures below 10°C.
  7. Ensure the interior is cleaned thoroughly before use.
  8. Install at least 30 cm away from heat sources like hobs and ovens, and at least 5 cm away from electrical ovens.
  9. If installing side-by-side with another refrigerator, maintain at least 8 cm distance between them.

Before Using the Refrigerator

  1. Ensure feet are adjusted for perfect levelling.
  2. Verify the interior is clean and dry.
  3. Check required spacing for air circulation.
  4. Plug the refrigerator into the wall socket and switch on the electricity. The interior light should come on when the door is open.
  5. A noise from the compressor or refrigerant system is normal.
  6. Do not load the refrigerator immediately after switching it on; wait for the correct storage temperature to be reached.

Electrical Connection

Connect the refrigerator to a grounded socket protected by a fuse of appropriate capacity. The connection must comply with national regulations. The power cable plug must be easily accessible after installation. The specified voltage must match your mains voltage.

Initial Operation: During the first six hours, do not open the door frequently, operate the refrigerator empty, and do not unplug it.

The manufacturer is not liable if the instructions in the manual are not followed.

The front edges of the refrigerator may feel warm; this is normal and designed to avoid condensation.

A damaged power cable must be replaced by a qualified electrician.

Extension cables and multiway plugs must not be used.

DANGER: A damaged refrigerator must not be operated before repair due to the risk of electric shock.

Care must be taken not to touch the condenser metal wires at the back of the refrigerator during cleaning/carrying to avoid injury.

DEFY declines liability if instructions are not followed.

Adjusting the Feet

Level your refrigerator by turning the front legs. Turning in the direction of the black arrow lowers the corner; turning in the opposite direction raises it. Assistance may be helpful when tilting the refrigerator.

Energy Saving Tips

Using Your Refrigerator

Temperature Control and Adjustment

The thermostat knob, located on the ceiling of the fridge compartment, controls operating temperatures from 1 (warmest) to 5 (coldest). For initial use, set the thermostat halfway between 1 and 5. After 24 hours, the average fridge temperature should not be higher than +5°C. Adjust the thermostat towards 5 for a colder fridge and towards 1 for a warmer fridge. Some sections may be cooler or warmer, which is normal.

Use an accurate thermometer to check storage temperatures. Remember to take readings quickly as the temperature will rise rapidly after removal.

Cold air escapes when the door is opened; close it immediately after adding or removing food.

If ice builds up in the fridge compartment, reduce the thermostat setting to 1. Once the ice disappears and auto-defrosting resumes, you may increase the setting if required.

The normal storage temperature for the freezer compartment is -18°C. Lower temperatures can be obtained by adjusting the thermostat towards position 5.

Note: Figures in this manual are schematic and may not correspond exactly to your refrigerator.

Defrosting: Fridge Compartment

The fridge compartment defrosts automatically. Defrost water runs to a drain tube via a collection container at the back of the appliance. Droplets may form and refreeze; do not use sharp objects to remove them. If the drain tube is blocked, clear it with a blunt plastic object. If the frost layer reaches about 7 mm, reduce the thermostat setting to restart automatic defrosting.

Defrosting: Freezer Compartment

Defrost the freezer compartment twice a year or when a frost layer of about 7 mm forms. Switch off the refrigerator at the wall socket and unplug the mains plug. Wrap food in newspaper and store in a cool place. Remove freezer drawers. Warm water containers can be placed in the freezer to speed up defrosting. Do not use sharp objects or electrical appliances for defrosting. After defrosting, sponge out water and dry the interior thoroughly. Plug in and switch on the electricity supply.

The Freezer Compartment

Deep-Freeze Information

Deep Freeze Packaging Information

Use tear-proof, cold-resistant, odour-resistant, acid-resistant, and airtight packaging materials suitable for deep freeze usage. Materials include cold-resistant adhesive tape, self-adhesive labels, and rubber rings.

Note: Food that has defrosted must be consumed within 24 hours. Only cooked food can be refrozen.

Do not take out frozen food with wet hands.

If the freezer door is difficult to open immediately after closing, this is due to pressure difference and will equalize after a few minutes.

Placing Foods

If your refrigerator is not going to be used for a long period, unplug the power cable, remove all food, clean it, and leave the door ajar.

Water Dispenser (Some models)

The water dispenser provides chilled water without opening the fridge door, saving electricity.

Using the Water Dispenser

Push the lever with your glass for water flow. Releasing the lever stops the flow. Maximum flow is achieved by fully depressing the lever. Adjust pressure to avoid overflow. Trickling water is normal.

Filling the Water Dispenser's Tank

The water tank filling reservoir is inside the door rack. Open the reservoir cover and fill with pure, clean drinking water. Close the cover.

WARNING: Do not fill the water tank with any liquid other than drinking water. Using beverages like fruit juice, carbonated drinks, or alcoholic drinks will cause malfunction and may damage the dispenser beyond repair. The warranty does not cover such usage.

Use clean and pure drinking water only. The water tank capacity is 2.0 litres; do not overfill.

Cleaning the Water Tank

WARNING: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. Do not use electrical appliances inside food storage compartments unless recommended by the manufacturer.

Protection of Plastic Surfaces

Do not place liquid oils or oil-cooked meals in unsealed containers, as they may damage plastic surfaces. Clean and rinse affected areas immediately with warm water if oil spills occur.

Replacing the Light Bulb

  1. Switch off at the wall socket and unplug the mains plug.
  2. Use a flat-tipped screwdriver to remove the light diffuser cover by prying off each side.
  3. Check if the bulb is loose and securely screwed in. If it works, replace the light cover.
  4. If the light still fails, replace the bulb with a new 15-watt (max) screw cap (SES) bulb.
  5. Dispose of the burnt-out bulb carefully.
