GP25NL 25 HP Rotary Phase Converter
READ FIRST - BEFORE INSTALLATION
- ⚠️ Important Note:
- Never start the phase converter with a load connected, including transformers.
- Ensure adequate incoming service. Contact your electric company to verify the transformer's KVA size, which must be larger than the idler motor's HP.
- Do not use wire nuts for any connections; use bolt-down lugs.
- Verify all connections, including factory connections to the power block, are secure. Recheck connections after a few weeks of use.
- If the idler motor does not reach full speed upon powering up, shut down the phase converter immediately. If unsure, contact Phoenix Phase Converters or a qualified electrician. Failure to shut down promptly may damage the idler motor, voiding the warranty.
- Installation must be performed by a licensed industrial electrician. These guidelines do not supersede local and state laws.
Power Requirements
Use a motor load type breaker, not a quick-blow or trip breaker.
For a single machine with an inductive load (motors), size the breaker at double the machine's amp draw. Example: If equipment draws 20 amps, use a 40 amp breaker.
For multiple machines, double the amp draw of the largest machine and add the amp draw of other machines that will run simultaneously. Example: 20 AMP Lathe, 9 amp saw, 6 amp milling machine. Calculation: (20 AMPs x 2) + 9 AMPs + 6 AMPs = 40 + 9 + 6 = 55 amps. Use the next standard size breaker, which would be a 50 Amp two-pole breaker.
Refer to the chart for minimum and maximum breaker sizes. For rural areas, increase the minimum breaker size by 20%.
WIRE AND BREAKER SIZES (GP25)
Configuration | Idler Motor Wire Size | Breaker/Fuse Range |
---|---|---|
Single Phase (2 conductors under 50 feet) | 4 AWG COPPER | 40 MIN / 125 MAX |
Wiring Instructions
Illustration of wire connections. Do not use wire nuts; use bolt-down lugs.
For motors with 12 leads, connect as follows:
Lead 1, 7, 6, 12 to L1.
Lead 2, 4, 10, 12 to L2.
Lead 3, 5, 9, 11 to L3.
(Note: Instructions for 9-lead motors were indicated but not detailed in the provided text.)
Dimensions
Dimensional specifications for the GP25NL model are provided in a diagram (not included in this text-based conversion). The diagram typically shows the physical size and mounting points of the unit.
