New in Zebra Workstation Connect 5.1
- Supports Imprivata SSO, a third-party SSO provider that Workstation Connect users can access after logging in from the primary device screen.
- Discontinued features:
- Notification panel
- Admin configuration of “Monitor size” (Zebra recommends using "Screen Size (inches)" instead)
- Admin configuration of Desktop shortcuts via package/activity names (Zebra recommends using "Shortcut import file" instead)
Resolved Issues
- None
Usage Notes
- Applications launched on the secondary screen are now launched in Landscape mode by default. In previous versions, the applications were opened in Portrait mode by default.
- Desktop Mode is now automatically enabled upon ZWC installation on devices running Android 14 and later. Explicitly enabling Desktop Mode via device Settings is still required for the devices running Android 13 and older.
- In COPE mode, the device user needs to grant permission at runtime via the permission prompt given on the desktop side to see the Wireless Access Point info under Wi-Fi status icon's tooltip in the taskbar.
- On all devices running Android 13, clicking on status icons on the taskbar launches the corresponding settings fragment, even if the Settings app is disabled in the device, to suppress this behavior, an administrator can apply a managed configuration that disables launching Settings UI when status icons are clicked.
- For Enterprise Home Screen (EHS) users: A device restart is required after EHS installation for normal operation with the Workstation Connect Desktop launcher.
- To prevent automatic updates of the ZWC app when originally installed from Google Play, use StageNow and the "DisallowApplicationUpgrade" option of the MX App Manager "Action" parameter.
- On EMM systems that limit the size of text input fields, some configurations (such as desktop shortcuts when exported and pasted into a field) might fail or be set incorrectly.
- To ensure optimal performance of ZWC, Zebra recommends using devices with adequate RAM levels. For more information, contact your Zebra representative.
- See usage notes on TechDocs for more information.
Known Issues
- On devices running Android 14:
- If on-docking app behavior is configured for five or more apps and the device is repeatedly docked and undocked, a fully black or half-black screen is sometimes displayed on the primary device.
REMEDY:
- Fully black screen: Reboot the device
- Half-black screen: Clear apps from the recent apps list on the primary device or reboot
- On devices running Android 13 or 14:
- If the Imprivata SSO provider app is installed in the device while the device is docked, the device will show the Imprivata SSO login screen as expected, but the secondary screen will not be blocked.
- If on-docking app behavior is configured for five or more apps and the device is repeatedly docked and undocked, a fully black or half-black screen is sometimes displayed on the primary device.
REMEDY:
- On devices running Android 14:
- When the device is enrolled in COPE mode, after applying the Display-over-other-apps permission for ZWC via OEMConfig managed configurations, the setting is sometimes not applied after the first attempt. REMEDY: Check the relevant feedback message. If an error is returned, reapply the managed configuration.
- When the device is enrolled in COPE mode, installing ZWC from an EMM system sometimes does not automatically install ZWC in the Personal Profile. REMEDY: Do a device reboot to install ZWC in Personal Profile as well.
- If device is enrolled in COPE mode with the provisioning flag android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_LEAVE_ALL_SYSTEM_APPS_ENABLED = True, the DisplayLink app pop-up (with two buttons “Always” and “Just once") will appear on the device, once docked. REMEDY: Select "Always" from the pop-up
- On EM45 devices running Android 14:
- When trying to add shortcuts for local files or add custom icons for shortcuts when the device is enrolled in COPE mode, the file browser screen sometimes does not come up when the browse button is clicked. REMEDY: Undock and dock the device.
- On ET5X Devices running Android 13:
- When trying to add an app shortcut following a device reboot while cradled, the Add shortcut window is sometimes opened in full-screen mode. REMEDY: Undock and dock the device.
- On all devices running Android 13:
- When Imprivata SSO provider app is installed from a batch file, the Workstation Connect launcher does not load on the secondary screen once the device is docked on the cradle. REMEDY: Log into Imprivata app from the primary device and undock and dock the device.
- If an app is launched in full screen mode after docking device, undocking and launching the same app after docking, a black background is sometimes seen behind the app.
REMEDY: Any of the following should work to resolve the issue:
- Close the app and relaunch
- Perform "Move to device" action, followed by "Move to desktop"
- Reboot the device
- Perform "Relaunch and reset" action
- When long-pressing a shortcut icon, the "Remove shortcut" menu improperly remains visible when dragging the icon (i.e. to create a group), preventing the drag function from having any effect. REMEDY: Start dragging as soon as the icon is pressed (before the menu appears).
- If a device is rebooted while docked, the DisplayLink app sometimes appears on the taskbar as a running app, even though the app was not launched manually. REMEDY: An administrator can apply a managed configuration that hides the DisplayLink app from the taskbar.
- On all devices running Android 11 and Android 13:
- When trying to add an app shortcut immediately following a device reboot, internal system activities can sometimes cause unexpected behavior. REMEDY: Wait for 2-3 minutes after rebooting before adding app shortcuts from the UI.
- On ET40 / ET45 devices running Android 11, the image of participant(s) in some video conferencing apps are displayed in landscape mode on the secondary screen, regardless of the orientation of the primary (mobile) device.
- On ET40, ET45, TC53, TC58, TC73 and TC78 devices running Android 11, when the lock screen is set as PIN/Password/Pattern, the secondary screen remains blank if the device is rebooted while docked, preventing users from unlocking the device from the secondary screen. REMEDY: Use the device itself to unlock the screen.
