SECTION 4 – FIRST AID MEASURES

Swallowed: In the unlikely event that a wipe is swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Give water, or a 20-50 millilitres of an edible mineral oil. Get medical attention immediately.

Eye: Rinse eye with water for 15 minutes, whilst lifting eyelid. Get medical attention if effects persist.

Skin: Wash with soap and water.

Inhaled: Move individual to fresh air. Seek medical attention if effects persist. Restore and/or support breathing as required.

First-Aid Facilities: Eye wash plus normal washroom facilities nearby.

Advice to Doctor: Treat symptomatically.

SECTION 5 – FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Hazards From Combustion Products: Flammable solvent within each wipe sachet. Hazardous combustion products may be toxic and or irritating fumes / compounds. Never use sources of ignition near the container. Fire decomposition products include carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.

Suitable Extinguishing Media: Water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical foam.

Fire-fighting Procedures: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Do not release run-off to sewers or waterways. Vapours are heavier than air and may travel a long distance to an ignition source and flashback.

SECTION 6 – ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Spill / Leak Procedures: Eliminate sources of ignition. Prevent from entering sewer, drains or other bodies of water. Absorb spill with vermiculite and place in a sealed, labelled container for disposal.

SECTION 7 – HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling Advice: Avoid prolonged skin contact. Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not get into eyes. Do not swallow. Avoid breathing vapours.

Storage Advice: Store in a cool (<25°C), well-ventilated area away from sources of ignition, heat, sparks, flames and strong oxidising agents.

SECTION 8 – EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

Exposure Standards:

Engineering Controls: Provide good general ventilation. Keep separate from ignition sources.

Personal Protection: Avoid prolonged skin contact and avoid breathing vapours. Wash thoroughly after handling. DO NOT get into eyes. DO NOT swallow. Where many wipes are to be used consecutively, it may be advisable to wear solvent resistant gloves (e.g. nitrile rubber) and eye protection.

Appearance and Odour: Polyester-rayon wipe material impregnated with a colourless liquid with a slight paraffinic & perfume odour. The individual wipes are contained in foil sachets and supplied in boxes of 50 wipes.

Vapour Pressure: 10 mmHg at 20°C (solvent in the wipe)

Stability: Stable at room temperature.

Conditions to Avoid: Heat and ignition sources.

Incompatible Materials: Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons.

Chronic Effects: Chronic or repeated exposure may cause conjunctivitis of the eye, respiratory tract irritation, and defatting of the skin, leading to irritation and dermatitis.

SECTION 13 – DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Method of Disposal: Place in a sealed, labelled container for disposal. Dispose of in accordance with local waste regulations. Where several wipes have been opened and used, place in a sealed, labelled container for later disposal. May be incinerated in an approved facility. May be left to evaporate in a controlled place with no ignition sources. Used wipes to be disposed of in accordance with the local authority's infectious waste requirements.
