SKYTTA Sliding Door System

Introduction

The SKYTTA sliding door system offers a versatile solution for creating or dividing space. It allows for personalized configurations using different door frames, rails, and panels from the PAX range. The system runs from floor to ceiling, eliminating the need for separate wardrobe frames and integrating seamlessly with various storage solutions or serving as a room divider.

Doors are available in three frame colours: white, aluminium, and black. Panels can be chosen from a wide variety of materials and finishes, including semi-transparent, glass, high-gloss, wooden foil, and mirror, allowing for custom aesthetics from sleek and minimalistic to industrial looks.

Safety Note: This furniture must be fixed to the ceiling. Ensure you use appropriate fixing devices suitable for your specific ceiling type, sold separately.

Maintenance: Regularly clean the floor rail and door wheels to ensure smooth operation and prevent damage.

Service Message: Installing sliding doors may require professional carpentry knowledge. IKEA Assembly service is recommended for a perfect fit.

The SKYTTA sliding door system comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Note: Not all products shown may be available in-store. Please check with staff or visit IKEA.com for more information. All units require assembly.

Good to Know

Customise your sliding door by selecting from various frames and panels. Integrated handles contribute to a sleek, clean-lined appearance.

The total assembly height, including floor and ceiling rails, is 2045 mm for the 1960 mm door and 2397 mm for the 2310 mm door. Both can be adjusted by +/- 6 mm.

Ceiling Height Adjustments:

  • If your ceiling is higher than the doors, use the SKYTTA ceiling height reducer and cover panel to fill the gap (up to 356 mm above the doors).
  • If doors are taller than your ceiling, they can be cut at the top along with the panel. This is not applicable to glass or mirror glass panels. Professional carpentry is recommended for this, and assembly instructions are available online.

Installation Considerations: Ensure no cables, pipes, or heating systems are located where they could obstruct door movement or be damaged during installation.

Planning Tools: Accurate measurements are crucial for planning SKYTTA sliding doors. While planning on paper is an option, IKEA offers an online planner tool at IKEA.com to assist with the process.

How to Measure Your Space

Accurately measure the width (X1, X2, X3) and height (Y1, Y2, Y3) of your intended space. Measure height in at least three locations to account for any unevenness in the ceiling or floor. Ensure all surfaces where the doors will be installed are straight. Uneven or angled surfaces must be adjusted before installation.

The SKYTTA system can accommodate minor floor unevenness (0-2 mm per 1 m) or wall unevenness (0-3 mm per 1 m) without requiring adjustment.

Skirting Boards and Crown Moulding: It is recommended to remove or cut skirting boards and crown moulding to avoid gaps between the doors and the wall. A stop bar can be used for a cleaner finish.

How to Plan - SKYTTA Height

SKYTTA doors are available in two standard heights: 2045 mm (low door) and 2397 mm (high door), each with a +/- 6 mm adjustment range.

The system accommodates various floor-to-ceiling distances:

  • 2039-2051 mm / 2391-2403 mm: Standard assembly with doors and rails fits perfectly.
  • 2052-2095 mm / 2404-2447 mm: A small gap above the doors can be filled using distance pieces towards the ceiling (not sold by IKEA).
  • 2075-2410 mm / 2427-2762 mm: For larger gaps, use the SKYTTA ceiling height reducer and cover panels, or consult a carpenter for a custom solution.
  • 1500-2038 mm / 1500-2390 mm: If doors are too high, they and their panels can be cut. This does not apply to glass or mirror panels. Professional cutting is required, with online assembly instructions available.

How to Plan - Sloped Ceiling

The SKYTTA ceiling rail requires a flat, parallel surface for mounting. It cannot be directly attached to a sloped ceiling. To install on a sloped ceiling, an additional wall piece must be added, wider than the rail and creating a 90-degree angle with the wall.

How to Plan - Storage Behind

When planning storage behind SKYTTA sliding doors, ensure you can still access and open your storage items. For example, drawers should not be placed in an overlap area unless both doors can be moved, or the drawer can still be opened.

How to Choose Colour and Panels

Combine SKYTTA door frames (white, aluminium, black) with panels from the PAX range to create a personalized look. Panels are sold in sets of four. Mix and match colours, materials, and finishes for your desired aesthetic. Be mindful that some panels may have different finishes on their reverse sides, which is relevant if doors are visible from both sides.

How to Plan the Width of Your SKYTTA

The SKYTTA system offers flexibility in width combinations using doors of 771 mm and 1021 mm. The total width includes a minimum door overlap of 25 mm. IKEA recommends minimizing overlap for better symmetry and opening access.

Rail Types: Combinations can be made using 2-track or 3-track rails. 3-track rails generally allow for wider openings and more doors.

Door Combinations: The system supports various combinations of doors on 2-track and 3-track rails, affecting the total width and opening size. Examples include:

  • 2 Doors: Possible with both 2-track and 3-track rails, with different width configurations.
  • 3 Doors: Recommended for 3-track rails; 2-track rails are not recommended for 3 doors.
  • 4 Doors: Various combinations of 771 mm and 1021 mm doors are possible on both 2-track and 3-track rails.
  • 5 Doors: Combinations are available for both 2-track and 3-track rails, with 3-track rails offering a wider opening.
  • 6 Doors: Multiple configurations exist for 6 doors on 2-track and 3-track rails, with 3-track rails providing a larger opening.

Detailed diagrams illustrating specific width combinations, total widths, and door overlaps are provided in the original document.

SKYTTA Rails and Fittings

Rails: SKYTTA rails are available in 2-meter lengths and can be joined and cut to size. They come in white, aluminium, and black finishes, matching the door frames.

  • Top Rail: Mounted in two steps, typically involving a wooden beam fixed to the ceiling, followed by the aluminium rail.
  • Floor Rail: Features double-sided adhesive tape for solid flooring. Avoid use on rugs.

Fittings: You need one package of fittings per rail system (2-track or 3-track) for the end doors. Additionally, one package of fittings for middle doors is required for each door placed in the middle of the system.

How to Plan - Total Depth

Consider the depth required for your storage solution behind the sliding doors. A minimum clearance of 30 mm is recommended between the sliding doors and the storage.

The ceiling rail depth varies: 81 mm for a 2-track rail and 122 mm for a 3-track rail, due to cover parts.

SKYTTA Stop Bar

A stop bar frames the sliding doors and protects the wall. It can be fitted above the skirting board or between the door and wall. Measure your skirting board thickness; if it exceeds 18 mm, consider cutting the board or fitting the stop bar accordingly. The stop bar is available in white, 18 mm thick, and 240 cm high, with the option to cut to size.

How to Build with Ceiling Height Reducer

If your ceiling is higher than the SKYTTA sliding doors, the ceiling height reducer can bridge the gap, up to 365 mm. It can be combined with SKYTTA cover panels, painted to match your room, or with pre-treated cover panels from IKEA's kitchen range.
