Armacost Lighting Wireless Touchpad for 30 Color RGB LED Controller
Model: RGB14REM, Item: 733420
Product Overview
The Armacost Lighting Wireless Touchpad is designed for use with Armacost Lighting's professional grade 30 Color RGB LED Controllers (Model RGB8KEY-RF-WR and HHRGB14). It offers remote control of low voltage RGB LED lighting and operates through walls and doors up to 100 ft. away using radio frequency (RF) technology. This eliminates the need to run wires from the RGB LED lighting to the wireless touchpad, making it ideal for projects where installing new cabling is difficult.
Key features include RF pairing technology for expandability and multi-zone lighting control. The wireless touchpad can be paired to control and synchronize multiple Armacost Lighting RGB controller receivers in the same area, or multiple touchpad/receiver sets can control different zones of lighting without cross interference. The package includes a designer-style wireless touchpad, mounting screws, drywall anchors, and a battery. Units are intended for dry locations only. Wireless function may cease to operate properly in close-to-freezing temperatures.
Set Up and Pairing
To pair your RGB color controller receiver with the wireless touchpad, follow these steps:
- Connect the RGB color controller receiver to your power supply and RGB LED lights. Ensure the power supply is turned on. The red power indicator light will illuminate on model RGB8KEY. Model HHRGB14 does not have a power indicator light. Turn on your LED lighting and select a static color using the mode key on the receiver. Model HHRGB14 will already be on a static color or change using the hand-held remote supplied with the unit.
- Shut off power to the receiver unit by unplugging the power supply. Do not use the power OFF key on model RGB8KEY. Wait at least 5 seconds.
- Press and hold the power and brightness down keys simultaneously. While continuing to hold the buttons, restore power to the color controller. This action will pair the two devices.
Confirmation: For model RGB8KEY-RF-WR, the green signal light on the receiver will flash once to confirm successful pairing. For model HHRGB14, the LED tape light will quickly flash once when paired.
Common Code Pairing
It is possible to pair multiple receivers to the same single transmitter by repeating the pairing steps with additional receiver units. Please note that only static colors will synchronize; color-changing effects will not synchronize due to the various cycling speeds of each unit. If you repeatedly press any of the touchpad keys too fast, the RGB controllers may lose their synchronization.
To re-synchronize, press the reset key on the touchpad transmitter. All receivers and RGB LED lighting will reset to the same off-white color. For effective synchronization, all receivers must be within range of the single wireless touchpad.
Note: You can also "un-pair" the RGB controllers by following the pairing process but pressing the brightness up and brightness down keys.
Unique Code Pairing
Pairing and RF code technology can greatly reduce the need for extra wiring.
Wireless Touchpad Operation
Power ON/OFF
Press the power key to turn the unit on or off.
Brightness
Controls the light level for static colors and jump and strobe effects. Brightness is not adjustable in any color fade effects.
Effect Speed
Controls the speed of all color-changing effects. Use the up arrow for faster and the down arrow for slower.
Color/Mode
Press the forward arrow to advance to the next static color or color-changing effect. Press the back arrow to return to the previous color or effect.
Reset Key
Pressing the reset key will take the unit to the #1 sequence off-white color. At the same time, it will return brightness settings on all colors to 100% full brightness. Effect speeds will return to the medium speed setting.
Wireless Touchpad Transmitter Installation
The designer-style wireless touchpad transmitter can be easily surface mounted or installed in-wall. It comes with a switch plate, mounting screws, and drywall anchors. The touchpad design blends with existing residential and commercial switches and dimming décor.
Mounting Options:
- Easily mount to any wall or flat surface using the included screws and anchors.
- Can be installed in standard electrical boxes, or by using a low voltage wall plate mounting bracket.
Note: Compatible with many, but not all, switch plates made by other manufacturers.
Electrical Box Considerations: Some electrical boxes may require the removal of tabs, which can be done by simply breaking them away with wire cutters.
Special Features, Colors and Effects
Memory and Reset Function Key
The unit remembers the settings for brightness and speed for each color and effect. If a color is dimmed, it maintains that setting until changed, even if the power is turned off. If power is interrupted, the unit will return to the last used color or effects setting upon restoration of power.
The wireless touchpad features a unique reset function. Pressing the reset key returns the RGB controller to the #1 sequence position, which is an off-white color. Simultaneously, it resets all color brightness settings to 100% and programmed effect speeds to the medium setting.
Colors and Effects
Pressing the reset key selects the #1 static color position (off-white). All colors are arranged in common color groupings for easy navigation, and all colors are fully dimmable.
Color Groupings:
- 1-5: Shades of white
- 6-12: Shades of blue
- 13-17: Shades of green
- 18-21: Shades of yellow
- 22-26: Shades of red
- 27-30: Shades of purple
- 31: White strobe
- 32: Full color cross fade
- 33: Red, white and green cross fade
- 34: Red, white and blue cross fade
- 35: Red and white cross fade
- 36: Red, gold and green cross fade
Troubleshooting
LED tape light strip does not light, flickers, or has limited or inconsistent colors.
- Ensure the power supply and RGB color controller are turned on and receiving power.
- Verify correct polarity on all wire connections (V+, red to red, green to green, blue to blue) when joining RGB LED strips and connecting wires to the controller and power supply.
- Press the reset key. If any color other than off-white appears, there may be a bad connection or incorrect RGB wire polarity.
- Check that all connections are secure. Soldering wires to the LED tape and using solder splice connections is recommended for reliable electrical connections, especially in applications subject to vibration. Visit armacostlighting.com/installation for soldering best practices.
The wireless touchpad is not working.
- Ensure the touchpad is within range of your receiver. Try moving the touchpad closer. The transmitter is an RF device, and its range is affected by walls, line-of-sight obstructions, and other electronic devices.
- Check the battery. Replace it if you suspect it is low. Battery life typically ranges from 6 months to 2 years, depending on usage.
- The receiver may need to be paired again with your transmitter. If the RGB controller receiver is functioning properly and the transmitter battery is fresh, revisit the pairing instructions.
Static colors display uneven brightness or a color shift.
This may be due to voltage drop. Consider shortening your RGB lighting installation, reducing the length of RGB power wire, or using thicker gauge wires. Refer to your RibbonFlex Pro specific model's Installation Guidelines for options to reduce voltage drop. For assistance with larger LED lighting installations, contact support@armacostlighting.com.
