5 Battery and Charger

5.1 Charger Requirements

The charger is used for battery charging. Do not use the electric wheelchair while it is charging.

Charger Technical Data

5.2 Usage of Charger

5.2.1 Charging

  1. Charge when the battery indicator on the controller is orange.
  2. If the battery is not used for a long time, charge it every 15 days to ensure it is fully charged.
  3. Charge when the remaining battery power cannot reach the estimated travel distance.

5.2.2 Charging Steps

To charge the battery, connect the charger to the power supply and the controller socket. Follow these instructions:

  1. Make sure the charger groove is not blocked.
  2. Make sure the electric wheelchair is powered off.
  3. Make sure the battery and controller are connected.
  4. Connect the charger's output plug to the socket below the controller.
  5. Connect the charger's main plug to the power supply. The red light will be alight. Fully charging needs 8 to 10 hours; do not overcharge for more than 24 hours.
  6. To prolong battery life, charge the battery at least once per month when the wheelchair is not being used.

⚠️ Warning: Do not stop charging until the process is finished. Repeatedly using a battery that is not fully charged will shorten its life; the battery should be fully charged as much as possible. When the battery is fully charged, the power indicator will turn green. Do not stop charging before it is fully charged. After finishing charging, turn off the power supply, otherwise the battery will discharge slowly. Do not charge for more than 24 hours; over-charging is dangerous.

⚠️ Warning: Users should follow these rules to avoid charging dangers:

5.3 The Usage and Maintenance of Battery

Incorrect battery replacement may cause danger of explosion. Only the same or recommended type of battery is suitable for replacement. Ensure the battery poles are correct. Key points for prolonging battery life: charge frequently to keep battery power full. It is better to fully charge the battery if the wheelchair is not being used. If stopped using for a long time, charge twice per month.

Please stay away from flames when charging the battery, as flames may cause battery fire or explosion. Charging produces hydrogen; do not smoke while charging.

⚠️ Warning: Do not unplug the power supply when the socket or your hands are wet, as this may cause electric shock. In case of unpredictable accidents that may hurt the user, do not use or sit on the electric wheelchair while charging.

6 Wheelchair Operation and Control

6.1 Controller Panel

The controller panel includes the following controls: Power On/Off button, Battery Power Gauge, Horn Button, Speed Decrease button, and Speed Increase button (refer to Fig. 16).

6.2 Controller Usage

Power on/off

Press the power button to turn on the power; the controller system enters the startup state. Press the button again to turn off the power. After each startup, wait 1.5 seconds before operating the joystick, as the controller has a 1.5-second self-check function.

⚠️ Warning: In an emergency, you can directly turn off power by pressing the power button.

ℹ️ Notice: When the power is on, the vehicle has an electromagnetic brake function. Release the joystick, and the wheelchair will be in a self-braking status. Turn off the power; after standing still for 10 seconds, the wheelchair's electromagnetic brake function will turn off, allowing an escort to push the vehicle manually.

Sleep Mode

If the joystick has no operation for more than 20 minutes, the power will turn off automatically, and the system enters sleep mode. The system can be woken up from sleep mode by pressing the power button.

Speed Adjustment

Wheelchair driving speed is adjustable according to user habits and circumstances. Adjust speed by pressing the decrease or increase buttons. Speed is divided into five sections: 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% of the max speed. The first gear is 20% of max speed, and the fifth gear is 100% of max speed.

Battery Power Gauge

After turning on the power, the battery power gauge is active and shows the battery's remaining capacity. As pictured, the battery power is full. When only the red or yellow LED light is lit, the battery should be charged. For long-distance driving, the battery should be fully charged. If only the red LED light is lit, the battery power is extremely inadequate, and users need to charge the battery as soon as possible.

Use of Joystick

The wheelchair's moving direction is controlled by the joystick. The extent of the joystick's movement also controls the moving speed.

⚠️ Warning: Please turn the power on or off when the joystick is in the center position. Otherwise, the controller may send out a wrong operation signal. Release the joystick to the center position to stop. If the issue persists, the part may be malfunctioning; do not use it and contact your dealer for maintenance.

6.3 Motor with Electromagnetic Brake

(Ignore this item if the wheelchair does not have an electromagnetic brake function.) Before using the wheelchair, open the electromagnetic brake upwards. After the electromagnetic brake is opened upwards, the wheelchair cannot be pushed manually and can only be driven by the motor. (If the battery is low, you need to turn off the electromagnetic brake and push manually to avoid damaging the battery) (refer to Fig. 17).

Note: Turning the clutch switches to manual gear will cause the controller to keep alarming and prevent starting when the controller is powered on.

7 Maintenance

Maintenance of the wheelchair includes cleaning, checking wheels and battery, and charging the battery. For further maintenance, please contact your dealer. We suggest checking the wheelchair every half year and performing an annual overhaul.

7.1 Clean and Battery Maintenance

Clean Wheelchair

Please clean the wheelchair regularly. Clean parts frequently touched by the user (such as seat cushion, armrest, controller) with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not use organic solvents for cleaning. If it is a patient user, the wheelchair should be cleaned once per week. If used by an infectious victim, it should be cleaned and disinfected.

Wheels

Check the tires' air pressure and wear condition regularly. When the tire tread pattern depth reduces to 1mm, please replace the tire.

Battery

Ensure the battery is frequently fully charged. To prolong battery life, it is strongly recommended not to charge the battery until it runs out of power completely.

7.2 Wheelchair Malfunction and Checking

When malfunctions occur while the wheelchair is operating, turn off the power before checking. Symptom: Completely lose power, and all LED lights on the controller panel are off.

Check Step:

  1. Check if the controller's plug is loose.
  2. Check if the connection of the controller's plug and battery box is loose. Reinsert the plug connector (hold the plug when pulling it out to avoid unnecessary damage to the wire). If the wheelchair still cannot restore power after these checks, or if users have any questions, please contact your dealer.

The controller has a diagnosing system to monitor the controller and motor. Any malfunction of these parts is indicated by the controller. For more details, please refer to the chapter on audio signal indication.
