The Swann Security Skill with Amazon Alexa: Installation Guide

About the Swann Security Skill

It is now even easier to see what's happening at home. Amazon Alexa works with Swann Security to stream live video to your Amazon Echo Spot or Echo Show device simply by speaking your commands. Follow this guide to learn how to connect Amazon Alexa to Swann Security for voice control.

Quick Start

To use Amazon Alexa voice control with Swann Security, you need to have the following:

• Swann Security App
• Swann Security account with one or more paired Swann devices
• The Amazon Alexa app and account
• An Amazon Echo Spot or Echo Show device

Streaming Your Camera via Amazon Alexa

Alexa responds by default to the name assigned to your camera (or channel) in the Swann Security app. Another name can also be assigned to your camera via the Alexa app. Avoid using special characters like % and numbers. You may want to consider changing the camera name if this is the case. Use clear and distinct words that Alexa will find easier to understand and that do not resemble the names of other connected devices in your home.

To connect to your camera and view live video, simply say: « Alexa, show <camera name> »

To end the live stream from your camera, simply say: « Alexa, go home » or « Alexa, stop »

Activating Your Swann Security Devices « Skill & Discovering »

Before you begin, ensure your Amazon Alexa device and Echo Spot or Echo Show are configured and working correctly. To test this, ask Alexa what the weather is. If Alexa responds, it will confirm that Alexa is working. Additionally, open the Swann Security app and verify that you are able to stream live video from your cameras.

Step 1

From the Amazon Alexa app, tap the ☰ icon in the top-left corner.

Step 2

Select the 'Skills & Games' option from the menu.

Step 3

Tap on and search for 'Swann Security'.

Step 4

The 'Swann Security' skill will appear in the results. Tap on it. Tap on it.

Step 5

Tap 'Enable to Use' on the Swann Security skill page.

Step 6

To activate the Swann Security skill, you need to link your Swann Security account.

Step 7

Enter the username and password associated with your Swann Security account, then tap 'Login'.

Step 8

This page will appear once your account is linked. Tap 'Done' or the ❌ in the top-left corner.

Step 9

You will now be prompted to discover your cameras. Tap 'Discover Devices'.

Step 10

Alexa will search for cameras associated with your Swann Security account.

Step 11

Once the discovery process is complete, tap 'Choose Device' and finish the setup. Alexa is now ready to interact with your Swann security cameras.

Step 12

You can view your linked Swann Security cameras by tapping the 'All Devices' button in the Devices tab.

TIP

If you later link more Swann devices with the Swann Security app or rename cameras in the Swann Security app, you will also need Alexa to rediscover the devices. Simply tap the [+] in the top-right of the Devices tab (see Step 12 above) or ask Alexa to discover devices by saying 'Alexa, discover my devices'.

Using a Different Name for Your Camera

In addition to the camera name discovered initially, you can also provide another camera name for Alexa to use by renaming the camera via the Amazon Alexa app. Note that changing the camera name on Alexa does not change the original camera name in the Swann Security app.

Step 1

From the Amazon Alexa app, select the 'Devices' tab.

Step 2

Select the 'All Devices' button.

Step 3

Select the camera you wish to rename. For example, the 'Garden' camera.

Step 4

Tap 'Edit Name', then enter a new name for your camera. You can now control your camera with Alexa using its new name.
