HWT905(RS485)

IP68 Inclinometer

1 Introduction

The HWT905 is a multi-sensor device detecting acceleration, angular velocity, angle, and magnetic field. Its robust housing and small outline make it suitable for industrial retrofit applications such as condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Configuring the device allows users to address various use cases by interpreting sensor data via smart algorithms.

HWT905's scientific name is AHRS IMU sensor. This sensor measures 3-axis angle, angular velocity, acceleration, and magnetic field. Its strength lies in its algorithm, which accurately calculates three-axis angles.

HWT905 offers several advantages over competing sensors:

  • Heated for best data availability: WITMOTION's patented zero-bias automatic detection calibration algorithm outperforms traditional accelerometer sensors.
  • High precision Roll Pitch Yaw (X Y Z axis) Acceleration + Angular Velocity + Angle + Magnetic Field output.
  • Low cost of ownership: remote diagnostics and lifetime technical support provided by the WITMOTION service team.
  • Developed tutorial: includes manual, datasheet, demo video, free software for Windows computers, an APP for Android smartphones, and sample code for MCU integration (e.g., 51 serial, STM32, Arduino, Matlab, Raspberry Pi), along with a communication protocol for project development.
  • WITMOTION sensors have been praised by thousands of engineers as a recommended attitude measurement solution.

1.1 Warning Statement

  • Putting more than 36 Volts across the sensor wiring of the main power supply can lead to permanent damage to the sensor.
  • VCC cannot be connected directly to GND, otherwise, it will lead to the burning of the circuit board.
  • For proper instrument grounding, use WITMOTION with its original factory-made cable or accessories.
  • Do not access the I2C interface.
  • For secondary development projects or integration, use WITMOTION with its compiled sample code.

3 Software Introduction

Software function introduction

(Ps. You can check the functions of the software menu from the link.)

The WITMOTION software provides a comprehensive interface for interacting with the HWT905 sensor. The main screen displays real-time sensor data, including Angle X, Angle Y, and Angle Z, along with their precise numerical values (e.g., 122.173°). A 3D visualization shows the sensor's orientation in space. The software includes various modules and functions accessible via a menu bar and toolbar, such as:

  • Data list, Graph, Map, 3D pose, Raw data
  • Record, Tools, Add device, Search devices
  • Configuration information, Angle reference

The software documentation, detailed in the table of contents on page 7, covers:

  • Software Instructions
  • Downloading software and drivers
  • PC Software Download and Driver Installation
  • Using the software with a PC, including connecting wired and Bluetooth sensors
  • Main Menu functions: Function configuration, Data review, System settings
  • Specific settings like Reset, Sleep modes, and Alarm settings.

Image Description

The HWT905(RS485) IP68 Inclinometer is a compact, black, rectangular sensor module. The top of the module is clear, revealing internal circuitry and a gyroscopic element. It is labeled 'WIT INCLINOMETER' with the website 'www.wit-motion.com'. The diagram on the top surface indicates the sensor's axes (+X, -X, +Y, -Y, +Z, -Z) and labels the primary measurement axes as 'Pitch' and 'Roll'. A cable with a waterproof connector extends from one side.
