This document provides detailed product data for the Trane GAM5 series of modular multi-position air handlers. These units are designed for efficient and reliable performance in commercial and residential applications.

Features and Benefits
- Unique Cabinet Design: Double wall foamed and formed cabinet system, waterproof design, R-4.2 insulating value (Avg R-8.2), composite cabinet doors, sweat/loose fiber eliminating design, smooth cleanable surface, precision durable door seals, modular cabinet.
- Multi-Position Capability: Supports UP/Down Flow and Horizontal Left/Right configurations.
- Convenient Features: Phillips head door fasteners, side return option, pre-marked conduit connection locations, easy access large thumb screws.
- Vortica™ Blower: Integrated slide deck for easy removal, polarized plug connections.
- Coil Design: Aluminum coil with integrated slide deck for easy removal, patented enhanced coil fin.
- Heating Options: Slide-in electric heaters with polarized plug connections (sold as accessory).
- Airflow and Connections: Labeled panels and connections, 1 1/4" to 1" and 3/4" to 1/2" conduit connections (left, right, top), molded 1" standard filter rail.
- Refrigerant System: R-410A Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV), R-22 conversion TXV available (sold as accessory).
- Electrical: Low voltage pigtail connections, safety door switch with fused 24V power.
- Performance: Blow-through design, high efficiency ECM motor, compact dimensions (20.8" depth with doors removed), maximum width of 23.5", integrated horizontal drain pans, soft start fan motor operation.
- Warranty: 5-year standard warranty, 10-year registered warranty, optional extended warranty available.

A variety of optional accessories are available for the air handlers, including electric heaters, duct flanges, filter kits, sound baffles, condensate switches, hanger kits, UVC lights, and conversion kits.

GAM5 Air Handlers with Single Stage Cooling
This diagram illustrates the hook-up for single-stage cooling, showing connections between the comfort control, air handler, and air conditioner. Key connections include:
- Comfort Control to Air Handler: White (W), Green (G), Yellow (Y), Orange (O), Red (R), Blue (B).
- Air Handler to Air Conditioner: Blue (B), Yellow (Y).
- Note: For multiple stages of electric heat, jumper W1, W2, and W3 together if the comfort control has only one stage of heat.
GAM5 Air Handlers with Single Stage Heat Pump
This diagram shows the field wiring for single-stage heat pump applications. Connections are made between the comfort control, air handler, and heat pump. Key connections include:
- Comfort Control to Air Handler: White (W), Green (G), Yellow (Y), Orange (O), Red (R), Blue (B).

- Note: Airflow adjustment is required for two-stage applications.

Convertibility
The GAM5 air handlers are multi-position units designed for flexibility in installation. No internal modifications are required for any position. The badge rotation ensures the brand remains in the correct position.
Multi-position Air Handler Configurations:
- Vertical Downflow: As shipped. Features refrigerant connections and downflow condensate drains.
- Vertical Upflow: Features refrigerant connections and upflow condensate drains.
- Horizontal Left: Features refrigerant connections and horizontal left condensate drains.
- Horizontal Right: Features refrigerant connections and horizontal right condensate drains.
Note: Minimum unit clearances are provided in the outline drawing section.
