Eastron SDM230 Series User Manual
This document provides operating, maintenance, and installation instructions for the Eastron SDM230 series of single-phase, two-wire multifunction DIN rail electricity meters. The series includes models such as SDM230-Modbus, SDM230-Pulse, SDM230-Mbus, SDM230-2T, and SDM230M-DI.
The meters feature bi-directional measurement, making them suitable for import and export energy and power monitoring, including solar PV applications. With RS485 Modbus and M-bus ports, they facilitate remote communication with AMR/SCADA systems.

1.2 Pulse Output
The meter provides two passive pulse outputs. Pulse output 1 is configurable for total, import, or export kWh/kVArh, with selectable pulse constants (0.001/0.01/0.1/1 kWh/kVArh) and pulse widths (200/100/60ms). Pulse output 2 is non-configurable, fixed to active kWh (Imp) with a constant of 1000imp/kWh.
1.3 RS485 Serial – Modbus RTU
The RS485 serial port supports the Modbus RTU protocol for remote monitoring and control. Communication parameters like baud rate, parity, stop bits, and Modbus address are configurable via the set-up menu.
1.4 Mbus for SDM230-Mbus
The M-BUS serial port uses the EN13757-3 M-bus protocol for remote communication. Communication parameters, including baud rate, parity, stop bits, primary address, and secondary address, are configurable.
1.5 Dual Source Measurement for SDM230-2T
This unit can measure energy from two different power supplies. For example, it can switch to tariff 2 measurement automatically when the public grid is off and an electric generator is on. The tariff can also be controlled by an external time relay.
2. Operation
2.1 LCD Display
The meter features a 7-digit LCD display with a backlight. It shows various measured values, units, tariff information, and communication status.
