EASTRON SDM230-Modbus Single-phase Meter User Manual
Step 1: Overview
The EASTRON SDM230-Modbus energy meters feature a blue backlit LCD screen for clear reading. They are designed for measuring single-phase applications in residential, utility, and industrial settings. The unit displays various important electrical parameters and includes a communication port for remote reading and monitoring. Its bi-directional energy measurement capability makes it suitable for solar PV energy metering.
Meter Description: A single-phase energy meter with a blue backlit LCD screen displaying "0.00 kWh" and "000 10.00". It is labeled "EASTRON SDM230-Modbus", "230V 0-100A SO", and bears CE certification marks.

Step 3: Unpacking
The package contains the following items:
- Item A: Single-phase meter.
- Item B: RS485 cable (standard length 5m).
- Item C: User Manual.
Visual representation shows Item A as the meter, Item B as a coiled communication cable, and Item C as the manual.
Step 4: Dimension (Unit: mm)
The meter has dimensions of 36mm width, 99mm height, and 63mm depth. It is designed for mounting on a standard 35mm DIN rail.
Visuals show the meter's external dimensions and its mounting clip for a DIN rail.
Step 5: Installation
The Ingress Protection rate is IP51 and the pollution degree is PD2, meaning the meter must be installed indoors.
Wire Diagram: The meter has input terminals labeled "L-in" and "N-in" for connection to the Public Grid, and output terminals labeled "L-out" and "N-out" for connection to the LOAD. It also features terminals for RS485 communication (labeled B1, White/Orange wire; and A1, White/Blue wire) and pulse outputs.
Installation Chart: Depicts the meter mounted on a DIN rail, with connections from the public grid to the input terminals and to the load via the output terminals. A connection to an "SPM Inverter" via the RS485 communication cable is also illustrated.
Cable Note: Before screwing in the cables, open the meter cover. The standard communication cable between the meter and inverter is 5m. Customers can extend this using network cable if needed. Exercise caution when connecting the L/N input and output wires, as incorrect connections may damage the meter.
Step 6: LCD Display
The LCD display shows various measured values and system information. The screen typically displays total energy consumption in kWh.
LCD Item Descriptions:
- 1: 7 digits used to display measured values or RTC (Real-Time Clock).
- 2: Total value.
- 4: Import information, Export information.
- 5: Max. Demand for Power or Current.
- 6: Pulse output 1 and Pulse output 2.
- 7: Measurement units.
- 8: PF = power factor, Hz = frequency.
- 9: Bar display of Power.
- 10: Communication indicator.
- 11: Time information.
- 12: Low battery warning.
- 13: Lock symbol.
Operation: When powered on, the meter initializes and performs a self-check. The default display shows total kWh. Users can press a scroll button on the front panel to cycle through other information.
Display Order by Scroll Button: The sequence of displayed information includes total kWh, import kWh, export kWh, resettable kWh, total kVarh, import kVarh, export kVarh, resettable kVarh, Max. power demand, voltage, current, W (Watt), Var (Volt-Ampere Reactive), VA (Volt-Ampere), power factor, frequency, pulse constant, Modbus ID, baud rate, continuous running time, full screen software version, Modbus ID, baud rate, and finally total kWh.
Initialization: Upon power-up, the meter undergoes initialization and self-checking.
