Quick Start Guide: Plantronics 1542P Wireless Headset
Model 1542P
Getting Started
- Plug the power adapter into the power jack on the back of the base unit and then into a working power outlet. The Power On/Subscription LED will be solid white.
- Place the 1542P headset into the charging cradle. The charging LED on the base will flash green while charging and turn solid green when the headset is fully charged. Charge for at least 20 minutes before first use; a full charge takes three hours.
- Connect the RJ-45 end of the 801-432 cable to the port labeled "Telephone" on the 1542P base unit. Connect the 2.5mm cable end to the port labeled "Headset" on the 1500A counter station. On the 1500A, select the Privacy key to route audio to the 1542P headset.
- The 1542P headset and base are pre-subscribed (paired) and ready for use after charging.

Base Unit Components
Front View
- 1 Call/mute LED: Indicates call status.
- 2 Power on/subscription LED: Indicates power and subscription status.
- 3 Charging LED: Indicates headset charging status.
- 4 Subscription button: Used for pairing.
Back View
- 5 Narrowband/wideband audio switch: Selects audio quality.
- 6 Power jack: For connecting the power adapter.
- 7 Handset lifter/EHS cable jack: For connecting accessories.
- 8 Telephone interface cable jack: For connecting to a phone.
- 9 Auto answer switch: Configures auto-answer function.
Bottom View
- 10 Listening volume dial: Adjusts listening volume.
- 11 Speaking volume dial: Adjusts speaking volume.
- 12 Configuration switch: For installation setup (default setting is A).
Troubleshooting Tip: If audio is not present, adjust the configuration switch (12) from A to G.
Headset Components
- 1 Ear loop: For securing the headset.
- 2 Ear tip: For comfort and fit.
- 3 Volume/mute button: Controls call volume and mute function.
- 4 Call control button: Answers/ends calls and turns headset on/off.
- 5 Battery cover: Houses the headset battery.
- 6 Headset LED: Indicates headset status (flashes white when in use).
- 7 Microphone: Captures voice audio.
Operation
Volume and Mute
- To increase volume, slide the volume button [volume up].
- To decrease volume, slide the volume button [volume down].
- To mute or unmute a call, press the volume/mute button in.
Note: Volume control orientation may differ if the headset is worn on the left ear.
Call Control
- To talk, press and release the call control button.
Note: Turn the headset off when not in use to conserve battery power. Press the Call Control button once to turn it off, and again to turn it back on.
A single full charge provides up to 7 hours of talk time. Talk time may be reduced when operating in wideband mode or when used at greater distances from the base.
The Headset LED flashes white when in use.
