Crestron QM-RMC Control System and Ethernet-to-Serial Interface
Overview
The Crestron QM-RMC is a compact 2-Series control system featuring a built-in Web server and multiple input ports (IR, serial, digital) for controlling AV devices over IP networks. It is designed for facility-wide AV management, offering a cost-effective solution for universities and corporate campuses.
Versatility and Control
As a full-featured 2-Series processor, the QM-RMC provides extensive programming flexibility. It supports standalone local display and device control. Program development is streamlined using Crestron's SIMPL™ Windows software, which includes a comprehensive device database with thousands of IR and serial drivers.
Processing Power and Connectivity
The QM-RMC is powered by a 2-Series processor based on Motorola's ColdFire® technology, featuring 36 MB of onboard memory. Connectivity includes:
- Two bi-directional COM ports for RS-232 control.
- One IR port compatible with the ST-SPL IR splitter for controlling multiple IR devices.
- Four digital input ports for connecting sensors (e.g., room occupancy sensors).
- One 10/100BaseT full duplex Ethernet port.
e-Control 2™ XPanel Technology
The QM-RMC includes an onboard Web server with SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) support. Authorized users can access the control system from any LAN, WAN, or the Internet. Custom Web pages can be designed using Crestron Vision Tools Pro-e® and uploaded to the Web server, allowing any authorized computer running Microsoft Internet Explorer to control local AV devices. This technology provides a user interface similar to Crestron TPS touchpanel pages, with robust runtime performance. Standalone XPanel programs can also be launched from Windows desktops or Windows PocketPC 2002 PDA devices.
Network Management and Integration
The QM-RMC supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), enabling network monitoring through IT management software packages like Hewlett Packard OpenView™. The QM-RMC can generate SNMP traps or event notifications for device status, such as projector status or room occupancy. It also integrates with Crestron RoomView™ Facility Management Software, allowing organizations to monitor multiple room AV controllers on an integrated Ethernet network in real time from any network PC.
