Oticon EduMic: User Guide for Teachers

Introduction

The Oticon EduMic is designed to enhance classroom communication by sending your voice directly to students' hearing aids. This guide provides essential information for teachers on its setup and operation.

Getting Started: Turning On and Muting

Turning EduMic ON

  1. Press the button for 2 seconds until both indicators turn WHITE. Release the button.
  2. Wait 10 seconds for the status indicator to turn GREEN.
  3. EduMic is now ON.

Turning EduMic OFF

Press the button for 2 seconds until the status indicator turns OFF.

Muting/Unmuting

  1. To mute EduMic, briefly press the button. The status indicator will flash YELLOW.
  2. To unmute, briefly press the button again.

Pairing with Hearing Aids

EduMic and hearing aids require pairing before use. This is a one-time process.

  1. Ensure EduMic is ON.
  2. Turn the student's hearing aids OFF and then ON again.
  3. Place the hearing aids within 7-8 inches of EduMic. The status indicator will flash BLUE during pairing.
  4. When the status indicator turns GREEN, pairing is complete.
  5. Confirm the student can hear your voice through both hearing aids.

Using the Lanyard

For optimal performance, the EduMic should be positioned correctly.

  1. Attach EduMic to the provided lanyard.
  2. Hang the lanyard around your neck and adjust the distance so the microphone is approximately 7-8 inches from your mouth.

Important Note for Student Comfort: Be aware that touching EduMic can create noise transmitted to the hearing aids. Mute EduMic when handling it. Avoid wearing EduMic close to jewelry or other hard objects.

Audio Connections

Using the Jack Cable

Connect the 3.5 mm jack cable to send sound from external sources (e.g., sound field systems, smartboards, PCs) to students' hearing aids. When connected, the EduMic microphone is disabled (OFF), and the status indicator turns YELLOW. Unplug the cable to re-enable the microphone.

Using FM Connection

Plug in an FM receiver (not included) to send sound from classroom microphone systems (like Oticon Amigo) to the hearing aids. Ensure EduMic is placed within 9.5 feet of the hearing aids.

Mute/Unmute Connection

Briefly press the button to mute or unmute the audio connection. The status indicator flashes YELLOW when muted.
