Introduction
These instructions for use are valid for Oticon Companion 1.0.0 or later. Oticon Companion is designed for easy control of your hearing aids' sound settings and allows you to control the sound streamed to them. The app also enables remote communication between you and your hearing care professional.
The RemoteCare feature allows for follow-up visits from home. You can see and hear your hearing care professional, and send text messages during your remote visit. It also enables data communication between your hearing aids and professional via a stable internet connection. In some cases, in-person visits may be required.
Ensure you read this booklet carefully, including the Warnings section, before using the app to get the most benefit.
Text marked with a warning symbol (⚠️) must be read before using the app.
The term "device(s)" refers to your Apple iOS device (e.g., iPhone®, iPad®) or your Android™ device (phone or tablet).
The app runs on Apple iOS or Android devices. Always update the app to the newest compatible version and your device's operating system to the latest version.

How to Use This Guide
You must download the app on your device before following the procedures in this guide.
To use most features, you need to pair your hearing aids to your device first. For pairing help, visit: www.oticon.global/pairing.
When using the RemoteCare feature, follow the procedures in the "Remote Visit" section chronologically. Procedures are generally the same for iOS and Android devices.
Intended Use
Intended use | Oticon Companion is intended to give the user wireless access to the hearing aid through a mobile device for control of functionality and remote update of the hearing aid. The product is intended to be used with the given hearing solution. |

Important Notices
The RemoteCare feature connects you to your hearing care professional for updated settings. If remote changes are not possible, a physical visit is necessary.
The app should only be operated by the user, responsible caregivers, or hearing care professionals. Third parties must be prevented from controlling the app.
Connection between hearing aids and mobile phone may be lost due to signal interference, low battery, or distance. If this affects functionality, reboot the hearing aids.
Refer to your hearing aid's Instructions for use for specific functionality details. The hearing care professional is responsible for obtaining the necessary license for the RemoteCare feature.

System Requirements
To use the app, you need:
- Compatible hearing aids with Bluetooth® Low Energy technology*
- A compatible iOS or Android device*
- For iOS devices: iOS operating system software version 15.0 or later. (Check via Settings > General > About > Software Version)
- For Android devices: Android operating system software version 8.0 or later. (Check via Settings > About phone > Software information)
- For RemoteCare feature: A stable Internet connection suitable for sound and video streaming, with a recommended minimum speed of 1 Mbps (upload/download).

Daily Use
Change Volume and Mute
You can change the volume in both hearing aids simultaneously or independently. Volume changes apply only to the selected program.
To access volume and mute controls: On the tab bar, tap Sound.
App Interface Elements:
- A. Volume level indicator: Value 0 is the start-up volume set by your hearing care professional.
- B. To increase/decrease volume: Move the slider(s) up or down or press the +/- buttons.
- C. To switch volume control (one or both aids): Tap the slider button ?️.
- D. To mute/unmute microphones: Tap the mute button ?.

- G. Program selector
The app interface shows volume sliders for left (L) and right (R) hearing aids, with controls for sound, hearing aids, and other options.
Change Program
A program is a preset sound adjustment optimized for specific environments or sound sources. Volume is adjusted independently for each program.
To change programs:
- On the tab bar, tap Sound.
- On the navigation bar, in the program selector, tap the down arrow (▼) to see available programs.
- Tap the desired program to select it.
You can also toggle between programs using the right and left arrows in the navigation bar.
Your hearing care professional can define up to four listening programs. Additional programs for TV Adapter, ConnectClip, EduMic, and/or Tinnitus SoundSupport™ may also be available.
Accessories and Your App
If your hearing aids are paired with devices like TV Adapter, EduMic, or ConnectClip, corresponding programs are available in the program selector.
TV Adapter/EduMic
Use the app to control sound streamed from your TV or device to your hearing aids.
ConnectClip
ConnectClip enables hands-free phone calls and sound streaming from any Bluetooth device. It also functions as a remote microphone.
To adjust the volume of sound streamed from your paired device:
- On the tab bar, tap Sound.
- On the navigation bar, in the program selector, tap the down arrow (▼), then tap TV Adapter/EduMic or ConnectClip.
- On the navigation bar, tap the Streaming tab.
- Move the slider(s) up or down.
To adjust the volume of ambient environmental sounds:
- On the navigation bar, select the Surroundings tab.
- Move the slider(s) up or down.
Switch Streaming Sources
If you have multiple TVs or compatible devices paired, you can switch between streaming sources.
- On the tab bar, tap Sound.
- On the navigation bar, in the program selector, tap the down arrow (▼), then tap TV Adapter/EduMic.
- On the bottom, above the tab bar, tap the Devices button ?. The highlighted device is the current source.
- Select the desired streaming source from the list.
To rename a connected device:
- On the bottom, above the tab bar, tap the Devices button ?.
- Tap the pencil icon ✏️ for the device you want to rename.
- Enter the desired name in the text box.
- Click Save.
Streaming Equalizer
The streaming equalizer adjusts the loudness of frequency bands for sound streamed from your mobile devices, TV Adapter, EduMic, and/or ConnectClip. It is not available on Tinnitus programs.
The streaming equalizer button is always visible on Apple and selected Android devices. On other Android devices, it appears the first time you stream sound.
To adjust the streaming equalizer:
- On the tab bar, tap Sound.
- Above the tab bar, in the middle, tap the streaming equalizer button ?️.
- Move the slider(s) up or down:
- Low: Equalizes bass tones.
- Mid: Equalizes mid-range tones.
- High: Equalizes treble tones.
Default settings are 0 dB, with a range between +6 dB and -12 dB.
Remote Microphone
This feature lets you use your iPhone or iPad as a remote microphone. For example, place your iPhone near a speaker to stream sound to your hearing aids.
Remote microphone is not available on Tinnitus, ConnectClip, or TV Adapter/EduMic programs.
To activate or deactivate the remote microphone:
- On the tab bar, tap Sound.
- In the program selector, tap the down arrow (▼) and select one of the general programs.
- On the bottom, on the right-hand side, tap the microphone button ?, then toggle the switch.
The remote microphone functionality is currently only available for Apple devices.
SpeechBooster*
SpeechBooster helps you focus on speech in noisy environments by enhancing speech and suppressing non-speech sound sources from the sides and back.
To activate and deactivate SpeechBooster: Above the tab bar, on the right, tap the speech booster button ?, then toggle the switch.
The feature deactivates when you change programs, open the battery drawer, place hearing aids in the charger, or reconnect the hearing aids.
*The exact name of the SpeechBooster feature depends on your hearing aids. It is only available for select hearing aids. Contact your hearing care professional for more information.
Find My Hearing Aids
If you cannot find your hearing aids, the app can show their last known location on a map when the app was running.
To locate your missing hearing aids:
- On the tab bar, tap Hearing aids.
- Tap Find my hearing aids.
Hearing aid icons indicate proximity. A green marker indicates an active connection, while a red marker signifies a lost connection; tap the icon to see the date, time, and location of the last connection.
For best results, keep the app turned on, either actively used or running in the background.
The "Find my hearing aids" screen displays a map interface showing the location of hearing aids. A green marker indicates an active connection, while a red marker signifies a lost connection. The map view includes street names and landmarks.
Create Account or Sign In
To use some features, you need to create an account or sign in with existing credentials. You can reuse credentials from other Oticon registered services.
You can create an account using your Apple ID, Facebook, Google credentials, or your email address.
To sign in with existing credentials:
- On your device, on the tab bar, tap More.
- On the More benefits screen, tap My Profile.
- Tap SIGN IN.
- Follow the in-app guidance.
- In the You are signed in screen, tap GO TO THE APP.
- If using RemoteCare, proceed to the "Prepare for your remote visit" section.
To create an account (Using Apple ID, Facebook, or Google):
- On your device, on the tab bar, tap More.
- On the More benefits screen, tap My Profile.
- Tap CREATE ACCOUNT.
- Follow the in-app guidance.
To create an account (Using an email address):
- On your device, on the tab bar, tap More.
- On the More benefits screen, tap My Profile.
- Tap CREATE ACCOUNT.
- Enter your email address in the email field and tap CONTINUE.
- Open the "Welcome to our app" email and click the Verify your email button.
- On the webpage, create a password in the Password field.
- In the Confirm new password field, reenter the password and tap CONTINUE.
- You will be redirected to a page confirming your account is ready. Return to the app to sign in.
- Close your web browser and follow the in-app guidance.
Remote Visit
Prepare for Your Remote Visit
- Plug your device into power or ensure it is fully charged.
- Ensure your hearing aids are paired with your device.
- Ensure Bluetooth on your device is enabled.
- Position yourself where there is a stable Internet connection.
- Insert new batteries or ensure rechargeable hearing aids are fully charged. Have your charger nearby to restart your hearing aids if needed. Alternatively, manually restart aids by turning them OFF and ON.
For a strong, reliable connection during the remote visit, your hearing aids must have new or fully charged batteries.
- Turn OFF any battery-saving mode on your phone/tablet.
- Terminate other running apps to avoid disturbances.
During the Visit, Do Not:
- Place hearing aids more than 3 meters (approx. 10 feet) away from your device.
- Turn OFF your hearing aids.
- Turn OFF Bluetooth on your device.
- Enable Flight mode on your hearing aids or device.
- Turn OFF your device.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and data plan.
- Terminate the app or switch to another app.
- Enable any kind of battery-saving mode on your device.
Begin Visit
After completing the "Prepare for your remote visit" checklist, launch the RemoteCare feature in the app.
If you are not signed in or do not have an account, follow the "Create account or sign in" steps first.
To begin your RemoteCare visit:
- On the tab bar, tap More.
- In the More benefits screen, tap RemoteCare.
- On the RemoteCare screen, tap GO TO VISIT*.
- In the Connect your hearing aids screen, tap CONNECT.
- Follow the in-app guidance and tap CONTINUE whenever prompted.
If you have not paired your hearing aids, you will be directed to the "Pair your hearing aids" screen. Click PAIR and follow the on-screen steps.
*If this is your first time using the app, read and agree to the Data & Privacy notice. Tap AGREE to activate services.
Waiting Room
In the Waiting room screen, wait for your hearing care professional to connect. You will see a video stream of yourself while waiting.
Your RemoteCare Visit
When your hearing care professional joins, they appear on your screen in a video stream.
- A. Camera: Turn your camera ON/OFF ?.
- B. Audio: Turn your audio ON/OFF ?.
- C. Chat: Write a text message to your hearing care professional ?.
Hearing aids connected: When your hearing care professional establishes a remote connection, the L and R graphics change from blinking to steady green.
The RemoteCare video call screen shows the user's face and controls at the bottom: a camera button (A) to toggle video, an audio button (B) to toggle sound, and a chat button (C) for text messages. Status indicators for the left (L) and right (R) hearing aids show a steady green light, indicating a successful connection.
Hearing Evaluation (In-situ audiometry)
This optional function allows your hearing care professional to remotely check for changes in your hearing loss and fine-tune your hearing aid settings.
To ensure a successful hearing evaluation:
- Be in a quiet place with little or no background noise. Excessive noise can affect results and may require redoing the evaluation.
- Wear your hearing aids correctly as advised during your first fitting.
- Do not turn off or unpair your hearing aids during the visit.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If your internet connection is lost during the hearing evaluation, you will receive an on-screen notification, and the app will attempt to reestablish the connection.
If you hear a tone in your hearing aids after the internet connection is lost: Remove and restart your hearing aids if they are muted or still playing sound.
In some cases, the app may enter recovery mode and update your hearing aids with the latest settings from your hearing care professional.
Applying Settings
When your hearing care professional uploads new settings or configurations, the L and R graphics change color and blink orange.
Settings saved: When new settings are successfully saved, the L and R graphics change color to steady green.
Restarting hearing aids: When the visit ends, your hearing care professional restarts your hearing aids (OFF/ON). If enabled, your hearing aids play a melody or jingle.
End visit: When the visit ends and the "Visit ended" screen appears, tap OK. You can then begin using your hearing aids.
Tinnitus
Intended Use of Tinnitus SoundSupport
Tinnitus SoundSupport is a tool to generate sounds for temporary relief for patients suffering from tinnitus, as part of a tinnitus management program.
The target population is adults (over 18 years old).
It is targeted to licensed hearing care professionals (audiologists, hearing aid specialists, otolaryngologists) familiar with tinnitus and hearing loss evaluation and treatment. Fitting must be done by a professional participating in a tinnitus management program.
Tinnitus SoundSupport is a sound generator integrated into your hearing aids. Specially designed programs play sounds to help move your attention away from tinnitus.
During fitting, your hearing care professional can enable Tinnitus SoundSupport in one or more programs, accessible alongside other programs.
For usage limitations, refer to your hearing aid's Instructions for use or contact your hearing care professional.
The Tinnitus SoundSupport feature is only available in the app if Tinnitus has been activated by your hearing care professional in your hearing aids.
Tinnitus SoundSupport
To select a tinnitus program with relief sounds:
- On the tab bar, tap Sound.
- On the navigation bar, in the program selector, tap the down arrow (▼), then tap the desired tinnitus program.
For more program information, see the "Change program" section.
To adjust tinnitus relief sound level:
- On the navigation bar, tap the Masker tab.
- Move the slider(s) up or down.
This can be done for each hearing aid independently or both simultaneously. For volume control information, see the "Change volume" section.
To adjust the volume of ambient environmental sounds:
- On the navigation bar, tap the Surroundings tab.
- Move the slider(s) up or down.
The Tinnitus Sounds interface features two main tabs: "Masker" and "Surroundings". Each tab allows users to adjust sound levels using sliders for their hearing aids.
Warnings
General Warnings
For your personal safety and correct usage, familiarize yourself with these general warnings before using your device. Consult your hearing care professional for unexpected operations or serious incidents. They will assist with issue handling and reporting to authorities.
Using the app can be distracting in situations requiring full concentration. Be aware of your surroundings while using the app.

To access the Troubleshooting section:
- On the tab bar, tap More.
- In the More benefits screen, tap Help & Support.
- In the Help & Support screen, tap Troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting RemoteCare
Issue: Only see myself, no video stream of hearing care professional.
- Inform your hearing care professional; they will attempt to refresh the video connection.
- Wait a short while; the video stream usually re-establishes automatically.
What to do if I receive a phone call during the RemoteCare visit? Decline phone calls during the RemoteCare visit.
What to do if my Internet connection suddenly stops working? The app attempts to reconnect automatically. If reconnection fails, you have the option to END THE VISIT.
If I left the app and returned to it, does that have any impact? While your app is not active, your hearing care professional cannot see you, which may appear as a connection issue.
Having challenges with the visit (e.g., unstable video)? This is likely due to an unstable Internet connection. Try the visit again with a better Internet connection.
The visit suddenly ended without mutual agreement? Try to reconnect to the visit or contact your hearing care professional.
Settings Recovery Troubleshooting
The settings in my hearing aids cannot be recovered:
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
- Ensure you insert new batteries or that your rechargeable hearing aids are fully charged.
- Ensure your hearing aids are paired with your phone or tablet.
- Restart the app.
The app checks if your hearing aids are working. In some cases, it enters recovery mode and updates your hearing aids with the latest settings. Follow the in-app guidance. If you still cannot recover settings, contact your hearing care professional.
