Preparing the Food

To avoid damaging the appliance, never exceed the quantities of ingredients and liquids specified in the manual and recipe book. Always observe the maximum level indicated on the removable paddle.

Potato Preparation:

  • Potato Variety: Use potatoes recommended for chipping, such as King Edward and Maris Piper. For freshly harvested potatoes, which have higher water content, cook for a few extra minutes.
  • Storage: Store potatoes in a dark, cool cupboard (6-8°C), away from light.
  • Cutting: Wash whole potatoes and cut into chips using a sharp knife or chip cutter. Ensure chips are of equal size for even cooking. Recommended thickness: American style (8x8mm), Thin (10x10mm), Standard (13x13mm). Maximum recommended thickness is 13mm x 13mm, with a length up to 9cm. Thinner chips are crunchier; thicker chips are softer inside.
  • Washing & Drying: Wash chipped potatoes in cold water until clear to remove starch. Dry thoroughly with a clean, absorbent tea towel. Chips must be perfectly dry before cooking to ensure crispiness. Pat with paper kitchen towel just before cooking and dry again if any wetness remains.

Oil Usage:

A wide variety of oils can be used:

  • Standard oils: Olive oil, grape seed oil, corn oil, groundnut (peanut) oil, sunflower oil, soya oil*.
  • Flavoured oils: Oils infused with herbs, garlic, chilli, lemon.
  • Speciality oils: Hazelnut*, sesame*. (*Follow manufacturer's instructions).

ActiFry Cooking Hints and Tips

  • Do not add salt to chips while they are in the pan. Add salt only after cooking.
  • When adding dried herbs and spices, mix them with oil or liquid first. Sprinkling them directly may cause them to blow around by the hot air.
  • Strong coloured spices may slightly stain the paddle and appliance parts; this is normal.
  • For best results, use finely chopped garlic instead of crushed garlic to prevent it from sticking to the paddle.
  • For onions, use thinly sliced rings instead of chopped pieces for better cooking. Separate onion rings and stir them to distribute evenly.
  • With meat and poultry dishes, pause the appliance and stir the pan once or twice during cooking to ensure even heating and prevent food from drying out on top.
  • Prepare vegetables in small or stir-fry sizes for thorough cooking.
  • This appliance is not suitable for recipes where the combined food and liquid content exceeds the maximum level indicated on the removable paddle (e.g., goulash, curries).

Easy to Clean

  • Allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Open the lid by pressing the button (B) and then the latches to remove the lid.
  • Lift the detachable pan handle until it "CLICKS" to remove the pan.
  • Remove the paddle by pushing the release button.
  • Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not use corrosive or abrasive cleaning products.
  • Clean the removable filter regularly.
  • To prolong the life of the removable pan, never use metal utensils.
  • Use only washing-up liquid for cleaning.
  • All removable parts are dishwasher safe or can be cleaned with a non-abrasive sponge and washing-up liquid.
  • Clean the appliance body with a damp sponge and a little washing-up liquid. Dry carefully before reassembling.
  • The detachable pan complies with regulations for materials in contact with food.
  • If food gets stuck or burnt onto the pan or paddle, soak them in warm water before cleaning.
