Important Safety and Installation Guidelines
Adherence to national guidelines regarding the approval of auxiliary installations is mandatory. Any alteration or modification of the tow bar is prohibited and will void the operating license. Remove any insulating mass or underbody protection from the vehicle's contact surfaces before installation.
The tow bar is designed for towing trailers and for use with load carriers. Any other use is prohibited. Vehicles equipped with parking assistance systems may experience malfunctions after tow bar installation if components interfere with sensors. In such cases, the sensor range may need adjustment or the parking assistance system deactivated. For tow bars with removable or pivoting ball heads, parking assistance should function normally when the ball head is not in its operating position.
The tow bar is a safety-critical component and must only be installed by qualified companies. Improper installation poses a serious accident hazard. The German text of these instructions is binding. Subject to change.
Installation Procedure
Step 1: Vehicle Preparation
Prepare the vehicle's rear for tow bar installation. Identify the designated mounting points on the vehicle's chassis. The necessary hardware, including bolts and nuts, is shown.
Step 2: Main Tow Bar Assembly Attachment
Position the main tow bar assembly onto the vehicle's mounting points. Secure the assembly using the provided hardware, following the indicated attachment points.
Step 3: Side Bracket Installation
Attach the side mounting brackets to the tow bar and the vehicle chassis. Ensure the correct bracket type is used for your specific vehicle model (Audi Q3 or T-ROC/Arteon). Use M10 x 40mm bolts for this step.
Step 4: Vehicle-Specific Bracket Attachment
Install the specific mounting brackets tailored for Audi Q3 or T-ROC/Arteon vehicles. Use M10 x 35mm bolts. Verify correct fitment as indicated by checkmarks (✔️) and crosses (❌) in the diagrams.
Step 5: Final Tightening and Level Check
Tighten all M10 bolts to a torque of 67Nm. Use a level to ensure the tow bar assembly is correctly positioned and level.
Step 6: Electrical Connector Housing
Attach the electrical connector housing to the tow bar assembly. Secure it using M6 bolts, torqued to 10Nm.
Step 7: Tow Ball Neck Installation
Install the tow ball neck into the tow bar receiver. Secure it using M12 bolts (M12 x 100). For 10.9 grade bolts, torque to 117Nm. Follow the provided neck guide for proper alignment.
Step 8: Final Assembly Check
Perform a final check of all installed components and hardware to ensure everything is securely fastened and correctly assembled.
Step 1.1 - 1.3: Tow Ball Engagement and Locking
Step 1.1: Ensure a 5mm gap is present between the tow ball neck and the receiver before proceeding with engagement. Step 1.2: A 0mm gap is incorrect and will prevent proper locking. Step 1.3: Correctly insert the tow ball neck into the receiver, ensuring proper alignment and engagement for the locking mechanism.
Step 2.1 - 2.2: Securing the Tow Ball
Step 2.1: Engage the tow ball mechanism correctly by following the indicated movements. Step 2.2: Secure the tow ball with the locking pin and bolt, ensuring it is fully engaged.
Step 3.1: Final Locking and Verification
Insert the tow ball and ensure it locks securely with an audible 'click'. Verify that the 0mm gap is achieved and the mechanism is fully engaged. This ensures safe trailer attachment.
Step 4.1 - 4.2: Electrical Connector Connection
Step 4.1: Connect the electrical wiring harness to the tow bar's socket. Step 4.2: Secure the connector to prevent it from becoming dislodged.
Step 5.1: Final Connection and Usage
The tow bar is now ready for use. Connect the trailer's electrical system to the vehicle's electrical socket.
ECE-R 55 Clearance Requirements
Diagrams illustrate the required clearance (Freiraum) around the tow bar assembly as per ECE-R 55 Annex 7, Figures 25a and 25b. These specifications define minimum distances and angles to ensure proper function and safety.
Weight Definitions:
- Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR): The maximum permissible total mass of the vehicle, including passengers, cargo, and accessories.
Declaration of Correct Installation
The undersigned company declares that the tow bar type has been installed correctly, adhering to attachment points and manufacturer specifications. The vehicle owner has been informed about the use and maintenance of the device.
