Connection & Power Up
Your QRPA unit may arrive with its internal battery charged. Before connecting to mains power, switch the unit on and check the POWER LED. A green light indicates battery charge; a red light means the battery needs charging.
Connect the unit to the mains using the supplied IEC lead (23). Alternatively, you can use the external 12-15Vdc power input (21) with a suitable source like a car battery, or rely on the internal battery if charged.
To Power Up:
- Turn the VOLUME (15), ECHO (5), and MIC VOLUME (4) controls fully down (anti-clockwise).
- Press the POWER switch (19) on. The power LED should illuminate.
- Ensure BASS and TREBLE controls (14, 3) are set vertically (12-o-clock position).
- Turn the Voice Override switch (16) off.
- Turn UHF A and B volume controls (6, 17) fully down.
Your QRPA unit is now ready to operate.
UHF Wireless Microphones
Insert the supplied AA batteries into the handheld microphones by unscrewing the base and connecting the terminals, observing correct polarity. Gradually increase the UHF VOL controls (6, 17) to turn on receivers and adjust output levels. The "ON" LEDs (7) should light. RF LEDs should also light when the mic is switched on.
If the transmitter LED is dim, replace the battery. Test each microphone's output by gradually increasing its volume control.
To avoid "feedback" (howling or screeching), maintain a sensible distance between the microphone and speaker, and point the microphone away from the speaker.
The ECHO control (5) adds echo effects for singing. The CONTOUR control (18) adjusts the UHF mic tone, offering low or high frequency emphasis.
Switch wireless microphones off when not in use.
External Inputs
In addition to the built-in UHF microphones, the unit provides 6.3mm jack inputs for external wired or wireless microphones, controlled by the MIC VOL control (4).
The VOICE CONTROLLED VOLUME function (16) can automatically mute music when speaking into a microphone.
Twin RCA (11) and 3.5mm stereo jack (10) inputs are available for line sources like CD players or MP3 players. Set the media player's MODE switch to "Line In". Stereo signals from these inputs will be summed to mono as the QRPA is a single speaker unit.
A twin RCA line output (22) is located next to the RCA input, carrying the overall main mix. The AUX input is controlled by the main VOLUME control (15).
Internal Media Player
The QRPA features an internal media player supporting USB/SD playback, FM tuner, TWS Bluetooth, and Line input. Panel controls include:
- MODE: Switches music input between USB/SD player, FM tuner, Bluetooth, and Line In.
- EQ: Steps through preset tone equalization profiles.
- [Volume Down]: Momentary press for previous track; hold to decrease volume.
- [Volume Up]: Momentary press for next track; hold to increase volume.
- TWS: Momentary press to select repeat mode; hold to link True Wireless Stereo.
- PLAYBACK: Press to Record to USB or SD card; hold to playback recorded material.
- [Play/Pause]: Play or pause track; hold to scan FM channels.
- SCAN: (Used with PLAYBACK for FM scan).
- REC: (Note: EQ and REC buttons are not present on QR8PA models).
Insert a USB memory stick or SD card with MP3 or WMA media into the relevant slot on the rear panel.
If the LCD display shows "Line In", "Bluetooth", or an FM frequency, press the MODE button. Ensure the display shows media being read from the USB or SD device. If not, press the [Previous Track] button or try re-inserting the memory device. Increasing the VOLUME control should play the media through the speaker.
In FM tuner mode, the display shows the current station frequency. Pressing and holding the [Play/Pause] button for 3 seconds initiates auto-tuning, storing detected FM radio stations. Use the [Previous Track] and [Next Track] buttons to navigate stored presets.
Bluetooth Pairing: To pair a smartphone, open its Bluetooth menu, select Bluetooth mode on the QRPA (using the MODE button), search for "PA-SYSTEM" in nearby devices, and select to pair.
TWS Pairing: The Bluetooth receiver can also pair via TWS (True Wireless Stereo) by holding the TWS button for 3 seconds. When two QRPA units are in TWS pairing mode, they form a wireless stereo pair (for Bluetooth playback only), with left and right channels streamed from the smartphone appearing on separate units. The unit originally paired with the smartphone plays the left channel, and the other plays the right.
Remote Control
An infra-red remote control is provided for enhanced media player functionality:
- To operate, remove the clear plastic tab from the remote to activate the battery.
Remote Functions:
- [Media Player On/Off]: Powers the media player on or off.
- [Mode Select]: Selects input source (USB/SD, FM, Bluetooth, Line In).
- [Mute]: Mutes the audio output.
- [EQ Select]: Cycles through EQ presets.
- [USB/SD Select]: Selects USB or SD card as the source.
- [Repeat Mode]: Sets the playback repeat mode.
- [Transport Controls]: Play/Pause, Next Track, Previous Track.
- [Volume Up] / [Volume Down]: Adjusts the master volume.
- [Numerical Track Select]: Directly select tracks by number.
Charging the Battery
When the unit is connected to the mains and the POWER switch is off, the internal battery will recharge. The CHARGE LED will light orange while charging and turn green when fully charged.
Note: It is recommended to store the QRPA unit at an ambient temperature and not with the battery fully discharged.
