General Safety Instructions for Miter Saw Stands

⚠️ WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury:

  • ALWAYS use eye protection that conforms to ANSI Z87.1.
  • ALWAYS check the stability of the miter saw stand and the miter saw attached to it before use.
  • DO NOT mount any power tool other than a miter saw to this stand.
  • DO NOT exceed the weight capacity. The main center beam supports 500 lbs. (227 kg).
  • DO NOT climb, sit, or stand on the stand.
  • Follow mounting instructions carefully.
  • DO NOT modify the stand or use it for unintended operations.
  • DO NOT use the stand on uneven, unstable, or slippery surfaces.

Preparation

Figure 2 Description: A diagram illustrating the preparation steps for setting up the miter saw stand. It shows the legs in a folded position and the leg lock lever (J) and release button (K) used to deploy the legs.

  1. Place the miter saw stand on the ground with the folded legs facing up.
  2. Depress the leg lock lever (J) or release button (K) and pull the leg up until the locking pin clicks into place. Repeat for each leg.
  3. Lift the stand by the center beam and place it in an upright position. Ensure it is stable and does not rock.

NOTE: Ensure all locking pins are engaged and legs are locked.

Assembly

DW7232 Work Piece Support and Length Stops (Figures 3-4)

Figure 3 Description: A close-up view of the DW7232 work piece support/stop (D) attached to the beam (A). It shows the clamp (L) and the adjustment knob (M).

Figure 4 Description: A diagram illustrating the adjustment of the work piece support/stop (D). It shows the adjustment knobs (N) on the sides and the length stop (O) which can be rotated. It also shows how the support can be attached to the extension arm end cap (E).

a. The work support/stop (D) has a clamp (L) to capture the beam and prevent it from being knocked off. The knob (M) secures the clamp. Turn clockwise to lock, counterclockwise to reposition. Do not overtighten.

b. Adjust the height by loosening knobs (N) on both sides and raising or lowering the top surface to align with a straight edge or saw table. Tighten knobs.

NOTE: If the height slips under load, the weight limit has been exceeded. Adjust tightness of knobs only finger tight.

c. The work support/stop (D) can also be installed in the end cap (E) at the end of the extension arms.

d. The length stop (O) can be rotated up to serve as a length stop or to hold the end of long work pieces.

Adjustable Length Extension Arm (Figure 5)

Figure 5 Description: A diagram showing the adjustable extension arm and its lock lever (F). The lever is shown in the unlocked position, allowing the arm to be extended.

To lengthen the support surface, turn the extension arm lock lever (F) counterclockwise to release the arm. Extend to the desired length and turn the lever clockwise to lock.

Mounting Miter Saws

DW7231 DEWALT Miter Saw Mounting Method (Figures 6-7)

⚠️ WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, turn off and disconnect power before assembly. Accidental start-up can cause injury.

⚠️ WARNING: Stability Hazard. Use the Universal Miter Saw Mounting Method for non-DEWALT saws.

⚠️ WARNING: Ensure the miter saw is fully anchored.

⚠️ WARNING: Read the miter saw instruction manual before use.

Figure 6 Description: A diagram showing how to hold the saw by the mounting bracket assembly using the release levers (G) for lifting and positioning.

Figure 7 Description: A diagram illustrating the process of attaching the miter saw mounting bracket to the stand's beam. It shows engaging the concave front lip of the bracket with the rounded edge of the beam and the locator clip (I).

  1. Place saw in operational position, blade facing you. Align with bracket label.
  2. Place a spacer (e.g., 2x4) under one side of the saw to elevate mounting feet.
  3. Hold a mounting bracket under the saw and feed a carriage bolt through the bracket and saw foot.
  4. Assemble flat washer, lock washer, and nut onto the bolt. Tighten finger tight.
  5. Repeat for the other end of the bracket.
  6. Move spacer to the other side to access the other saw foot.
  7. Feed carriage bolts through the second bracket and saw base. Ensure brackets are parallel.
  8. Lift saw by mounting bracket assembly using release levers (G) to place onto the stand beam.
  9. Approach beam with assembly tilted. Engage concave front lip of bracket with rounded beam edge. One bracket must engage locator clip (I) to prevent lateral movement.
  10. Once engaged, pivot downward to secure release levers to the back of the beam. Rock saw to verify locking.
  11. Adjust saw position for blade perpendicularity at 0-degree miter.
  12. Tighten the four nuts securely.

NOTE: Refer to DW7231 Hardware Selection Chart for correct hardware.

DW7231 Universal Miter Saw Mounting Method (Figures 1, 7-9)

⚠️ WARNING: For non-DEWALT miter saws, use the plywood mounting method.

⚠️ WARNING: Ensure the saw is securely anchored.

NOTE: If you do not have a DEWALT miter saw, use 3/4" (19 mm) plywood.

Plywood requirements: Minimum 4" (101.6 mm) wider than saw base, at least as deep as saw base or minimum 16" (406.4 mm). Ensure plywood is square.

Figure 8 Description: A diagram illustrating the dimensions for the plywood mounting board. It shows required width (Saw Width + 4"), depth (minimum 16" or 381mm), and hole placement (3/8" diameter, 1" from corners, 15" apart).

Figure 9 Description: A diagram showing the hardware assembly for attaching the saw to the plywood: Saw base (P), plywood (T), flat washer (Q), lock washer (S), and nut (R).

  1. Determine plywood size. Drill 3/8" (9.5 mm) holes 1" (25.5 mm) from front corners, 15" (355 mm) apart, and 1" (25.5 mm) from sides.
  2. Place DW7231 mounting brackets on the stand. Engage concave front lip with beam's rounded edge. One bracket must engage locator clip (I).
  3. Pivot downward to secure release levers. Repeat for the second bracket.
  4. Place plywood onto brackets, aligning holes with slots. Use Method 1 or 2 from the Hardware Selection Chart to secure plywood to brackets.
  5. Tighten hardware with a 1/2" (13 mm) wrench.
  6. Mount the miter saw to the plywood using holes in its base. Hardware should be 1-1/4" (31.8 mm) longer than the saw base height.
  7. Transfer mounting hole locations from saw base to plywood.
  8. Drill holes for hardware.
  9. NOTE: Mounting hardware for saw to plywood must be purchased separately and be Grade 5 or Class 8.8 minimum.

  10. Secure saw to plywood as shown in Figure 9 (Saw base P, plywood T, flat washer Q, lock washer S, nut R).
  11. NOTE: Use flat washer (Q) between plywood (T) and lock washer (S).

  12. Tighten all hardware.

Accessories and Maintenance

Carry Strap

If purchased, use the square hole in the metal end to mount the carry strap accessory.

Locking Locator Clip (Figure 1)

The locator clip (I) prevents the saw from sliding left or right. To move it, remove the saw/bracket assembly, loosen the center screw, slide the clip, and retighten the screw.

Removing the Saw

Once fastened, grasp release levers, pull up slightly to clear the beam, and set the saw down on its non-marring feet.

Carry Handle (Figure 10)

Figure 10 Description: A close-up view of the carry handle attached to the miter saw stand.

A handle is provided for transporting the stand. ⚠️ WARNING: DO NOT attempt to store or carry the stand with the saw attached.
