Safety Guidelines
Definitions:
- DANGER: Imminent hazard, will result in death or serious injury if not avoided.
- WARNING: Potentially hazardous situation, could result in death or serious injury if not avoided.
- CAUTION: Potentially hazardous situation, may result in minor or moderate injury if not avoided.
- NOTICE: Practice not related to personal injury, may result in property damage if not avoided.
General Safety Instructions:
- Always use eye protection conforming to ANSI Z87.1.
- Always check the stability of the miter saw stand and the miter saw attached before use.
- DO NOT mount any power tool other than a miter saw to this stand.
- DO NOT exceed the weight capacity. The main center beam supports 500 lbs. (227 kg). Do not climb, sit, or stand on the stand.
- Follow mounting instructions carefully.
- DO NOT modify or use the stand for unintended operations.
- DO NOT use the stand on uneven, unstable, or slippery surfaces.
Preparation
- Place the miter saw stand on the ground with folded legs facing up.
- Depress the leg lock lever (J) or release button (K) and pull leg up until the locking pin clicks into place. Repeat for each leg.
- Lift the stand by the center beam and place it in an upright position. Ensure the stand is stable and does not rock. Ensure all locking pins are engaged.
Assembly
DW7232 Work Piece Support and Length Stops (Fig. 3–4)
- The work support/stop (D) has a clamp (L) to secure it to the beam. The knob (M) locks the clamp. Turn clockwise to lock, counterclockwise to reposition. Do not overtighten.
- Adjust the height of the work support/stop (D) by loosening the knobs (N) on both sides. Align the top surface with a straight edge or level to the saw table. Tighten the knobs.
- The work support/stop (D) can also be installed in the end cap (E) of the extension arms.
- The length stop (O) can be rotated up to serve as a length stop or to hold the end of long work pieces.
Adjustable Length Extension Arm (Fig. 5)
To lengthen the support surface, turn the extension arm lock lever counterclockwise to release the extendable arm. Extend the arm to the desired length and turn the lever clockwise to lock.
Mounting Method for DEWALT DW7231 Miter Saw (Fig. 6, 7)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, turn off and disconnect the power source before assembling the miter saw to the stand. Accidental start-up can cause injury.
WARNING: Stability Hazard. Use the universal miter saw mounting method for non-DEWALT miter saws.
WARNING: Ensure the miter saw is fully anchored to the stand.
WARNING: Read and understand the miter saw instruction manual before use.
For DEWALT Miter Saws:
- Place the saw in operational position with the blade facing you. Align with the label on the mounting bracket showing front.
- Place a spacer (e.g., 2x4) under one side of the miter saw to hold the saw's mounting feet above the work surface.
- Hold a mounting bracket under the saw and feed a carriage bolt up through the bracket and the saw's foot.
- Refer to the DW7231 Hardware Selection Chart for correct mounting hardware.
- Repeat for the other end of the bracket.
- Move the spacer to the other side of the saw to access the other end.
- Feed carriage bolts through the other bracket and the saw base. Ensure both brackets are parallel.
- Grasp and lift the saw by the release levers. These levers do not lock the saw laterally but serve to mount the saw to the beam.
- Approach the beam with the saw/bracket assembly, tilting slightly towards your body. Engage the concave front lip of the mounting bracket with the rounded edge of the beam. One bracket must engage the locator clip (I) to prevent lateral movement.
- When the front edge of the beam and locator clip are engaged, a slight downward pivot will allow the release levers to engage the back of the beam. Rock the saw to verify it is locked in position.
- Adjust the saw position so the blade is perpendicular to the beam at the 0-degree miter position.
- Tighten the four nuts holding the saw to the brackets securely.
Universal Miter Saw Mounting Method (Fig. 1, 7–9)
WARNING: For non-DEWALT miter saws, use 3/4" (19 mm) plywood.
The plywood must be at least 4" (101.6 mm) wider than the largest width of the miter saw base, and at least as deep as the smallest depth of the miter saw base, or a minimum of 16" (406.4 mm) if the base is smaller. Ensure the plywood is square.
- Determine plywood size, then drill 3/8" (9.5 mm) holes 1" (25.5 mm) from the front corners, 15" (355 mm) apart, and 1" (25.5 mm) from the sides.
- Place DW7231 mounting brackets on the stand: squeeze release levers (G), engage the concave front lip of the bracket with the beam's rounded front edge. One bracket must engage the locator clip (I).
- When the front edge and locator clip are engaged, pivot downward to engage the release levers to the back of the beam. Repeat for the second bracket.
- Place plywood onto mounting brackets and align drilled holes with slots. Use Method 1 or 2 to secure plywood to brackets.
- Tighten hardware with a 1/2" (13 mm) wrench.
- Mount the miter saw to the plywood using holes in the saw base. Hardware should be 1-1/4" (31.8 mm) longer than the maximum height of the saw base at each mounting location.
- Transfer mounting hole locations from saw base to plywood.
- Drill holes according to hardware size. Hardware must be purchased separately and should be Grade 5 or Class 8.8 minimum.
- Secure the miter saw to the plywood as shown in Figure 9 (Saw base (P), plywood (T), flat washer (Q), lock washer (S), nut (R)). Ensure a flat washer (Q) is used between the plywood (T) and lock washer (S). Tighten all hardware.
Carry Strap
If purchased, use the square hole in the metal end to mount the carry strap accessory.
Locking Locator Clip (Fig. 1)
The locking locator clip (I) prevents the saw from sliding left or right. To move the clip, remove the saw/bracket assembly, loosen the screw in the center of the clip, slide it to the desired position, and tighten the screw. Remount the saw/bracket.
Removing the Saw
Once the miter saw is secured to the brackets, it can be removed by grasping the release levers, pulling up slightly to clear the beam, and setting it down on the non-marring feet for transport or cleaning.
Carry Handle (Fig. 10)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, DO NOT attempt to store or carry the stand with the saw attached. Loss of control may result.
