Introduction
Please read these operating instructions before using the equipment for the first time. Blaupunkt provides a manufacturer's warranty for products bought within the European Union. For devices purchased outside the European Union, warranty terms issued by the respective responsible domestic agency are valid. Warranty terms can be accessed at www.blaupunkt.com.
Safety Notes
Please observe the following safety notes during the installation and connection:
- Disconnect the negative pole of the battery! Observe the safety notes of the vehicle manufacturer.
- When drilling holes, ensure that you do not damage any vehicle components.
- If positive and negative cables are extended, ensure the cross-section is not less than 2.5 mm².
- An incorrect installation can result in malfunctions of the electronic vehicle systems or your car sound system.
Installation and Connection Instructions
For accident safety, the XLf 200 A must be secured professionally. Select a dry installation location with sufficient air circulation for cooling the amplifier. The XLf 200 A must not be installed on rear shelves, rear seats, or other locations open to the front. The installation location must be suitable to accept the accompanying screws and provide a firm support (see Fig. 1). The amplifier power cable must be fitted with a fuse no more than 30 cm from the battery to protect the vehicle battery in case of a short circuit. The amplifier's fuse protects only the amplifier, not the vehicle battery.
Connection
Refer to Fig. 2 for connection details.
Diagram of the rear panel showing connection terminals and controls: 1. Fuse holder (10 A), 2. Preamplifier Inputs (R/L), 3. Power-on Indicator (Protect/Power - Green LED for normal operation, Red LED for error shutdown), 4. VOL (Input Sensitivity), 5. CROSSOVER (Upper Cut-off Frequency), 6. PHASE (Phase Position). Cables connect to +12V Battery (11), Ground (10), Right Loudspeaker Input (R+, R-) (8), and Left Loudspeaker Input (L+, L-) (9).
- 1. Fuse: 10 A
- 2. Preamplifier Inputs: Connect via RCA cables.
- 3. Power-on Indicator (PRT/PWR): Green LED indicates normal operation; Red LED indicates the output stage is electronically switched off due to an error.
- 4. Input Sensitivity (VOL): Adjusts input sensitivity.
- 5. Upper Cut-off Frequency (CROSSOVER): Sets the desired crossover frequency.
- 6. Phase Position: Adjusts phase.
- 7. Connector Cable: General connection cable.
- 8. Right Loudspeaker Input: For connecting the right channel speaker output.
- 9. Left Loudspeaker Input: For connecting the left channel speaker output.
- 10. Earth: Connect to vehicle ground.
- 11. +12V Battery: Connect to the positive terminal of the vehicle battery.
Voltage Supply
A minimum cross-section of 2.5 mm² is recommended for cables. Route positive cables to the battery and connect via a fuse holder. Use cable glands for holes with sharp edges. Securely fasten negative cables to a noise-free earth point (chassis screw or metal), not the battery's negative pole. Scrape contact surfaces of the earth point until bright and grease with graphite grease. Connection 11 connects to the positive battery pole, and connection 10 to negative vehicle ground. The XLf 200 A should ideally be controlled via 2-channel preamplifier or loudspeaker outputs. Single-channel control is also possible as low-frequency music content is generally identical on both channels.
Integrated Fuse
The integrated fuse protects the output stage and the entire electrical system in case of a malfunction. Never bridge fuses or replace them with a type with a higher current rating.
Audio Inputs
You can select between two different audio inputs: Cinch (RCA) and Hi-Level (Loudspeaker connections). Use only one of the audio inputs to avoid audio interferences. Preamplifier outputs connect via a shielded sound cable to the Cinch (RCA) sockets (2). For loudspeaker outputs, connect the input connections (8/9) to the nearest loudspeaker cables (front or rear) on the left and right, observing polarity. Bridge output stages (BTL) can also be connected directly without an additional adapter.
Switching On/Off
The XLf 200 A features automatic switch-on: it turns on when a music signal is received. If no music signal is detected for more than 60 seconds, it automatically switches off.
VOL Control
The VOL control (4) adjusts the input sensitivity of the power amplifier to match the output voltage of your car sound system's preamplifier output. The adjustment range is from 0.1 V to 7.5 V. If a third-party car sound system is connected, adjust input sensitivity according to the manufacturer's data. Turning the control clockwise increases sensitivity and perceived volume, but not amplifier output power. It makes the system respond faster to the car stereo's volume control.
CROSSOVER Frequency Control
The CROSSOVER control (5) allows setting the desired entry frequency. For example, a setting of 150 Hz provides a frequency range of 20 Hz to 150 Hz.
Settings
Recommended basic settings before operation: Sensitivity (VOL) to minimum, PHASE to 0°, CROSSOVER to approx. 80 Hz. Switch on the device and select music with distinct bass. Increase your car stereo's volume to the desired level. Slowly increase the VOL control until you hear clear bass amplification. Then, use the CROSSOVER control to select a filter setting for well-contoured bass. You may need to alternately optimize VOL and CROSSOVER settings. Droning bass with excessive volume requires a lower frequency filter setting. The PHASE switch should be set to integrate bass smoothly into the sound image. Check settings with the bass control fully open and Loudness activated. Excessive amplification (4) can lead to distorted playback and damage the loudspeaker.
Power-on Indicator (PRT/PWR)
Green LED: Output stage on, regular operating status.
Red LED: Output stage is electronically switched off due to an error.
