MEAN WELL GC30B Series 16.8W-30W Power Adapters with Charging Function

The GC30B series from MEAN WELL offers versatile power adapters with charging capabilities, suitable for various battery types including lead-acid (flooded, Gel, AGM) and Li-ion (lithium iron, lithium manganese). These adapters feature a universal AC input with a full range and a 2-pole AC inlet (IEC320-C8). They are designed with Class II power (no earth pin) and boast a no-load power consumption of less than 1.0W.

The chargers operate in Constant Current and Constant Voltage (CC, CV) mode, making them suitable for continuous loads and equipment requiring high surge current. Key protections include short circuit, overload, over voltage, and over temperature. A 2-color LED indicator displays the charging status. The adapters are housed in a fully enclosed plastic case, ensuring high reliability.

Mechanical Specification

The mechanical specifications indicate the physical dimensions and cable details:

Charging Curve

The charging process is divided into two stages:

Stage 1: Constant Current Area - The charger delivers a constant current (Imax = Rated Current).
Stage 2: Constant Voltage Area - The charger maintains a constant voltage (Vmax = Rated Voltage) as the current gradually decreases.

Following these stages, the charger enters Float Charging mode, maintaining the battery voltage at a lower current.

Operating Charge

Suitable for lead-acid batteries (flooded, Gel, and AGM) and Li-ion batteries (lithium iron and lithium manganese).

Derating Curve

The derating curve illustrates the relationship between ambient temperature (Ta in °C) and the maximum allowable load percentage. The adapter can operate at 100% load from 0°C up to 40°C. Between 40°C and 50°C, the load capacity derates linearly from 100% to approximately 70%.

Static Characteristics

The static characteristics graph shows the relationship between load percentage and input voltage. The adapter maintains 100% load capacity across the input voltage range from approximately 90V to 264V.

Notes

Modification for charger specification may be required for different battery specifications. Please contact battery vendors and MEAN WELL for details.
All parameters are specified at 230VAC input, rated load, 25°C, 70% RH ambient.
DC voltage: The output voltage is set at the point measured by the plug terminal and at 0% load.
Ripple & noise are measured at 20 MHz by using a 12" twisted pair terminated with a 0.1uF & 47uF capacitor.
Output charging voltage range is measured from 0% to 100% rated load.
Line regulation is measured from low line to high line at rated load.
