Setting Up

PERMANENT INSTALLATION

The Pinguino accessories include two sets of flanges and stoppers, to be mounted in different locations (two different rooms). Once installed, these vents (flanges) are the only items needed for using the Pinguino.

Permanent installation outlet holes must be in an exterior wall and the opening diameter should not exceed 3 1/2 inches.

Diagrams show vent installation:

A1: Vent installed in a window pane. A2: Vent installed through the wooden base-section of a door or window. A3: Vent installed through the wall. All indicate a 3 1/2 inch diameter opening.

In case of fixed installation, air discharged from the rear hose is extracted from the room where the appliance is installed.

Check that the room (especially if small) is not "air-tight"; a drop in pressure could cause irregular functioning, which could consequently activate the reset switch. Air entering through door and window cracks is normally sufficient. If deemed necessary, leave a door ajar (approximately 1 cm is enough).

TEMPORARY INSTALLATION

Note: In both cases (permanent and temporary installations), make sure that the Pinguino is positioned on level ground. If necessary, use the two caster stops for the front casters.

This installation makes it easy to use the Pinguino in any room, provided there is a window or a door; it allows you to use the Pinguino immediately.

Diagrams illustrate temporary setup:

Shows the unit positioned near a window with an adjustable window bracket fitted into the frame and the exhaust hose connected. Suction discs may be used to keep the window or door closed.

If you have a sash door, use the additional set provided to extend the accessory to the desired length. Join the two parts, adjust the total length according to your needs, then fix the bracket with the relevant nuts, close the door, and connect the hose.

The Pinguino is equipped with an adjustable window bracket. If you have a sash window, place the bracket on the window sill, extend the bracket fully within the window frame, and lower the window onto the bracket. Insert the nozzle of the exhaust hose into the slot, then connect the hose to the air conditioner. Thanks to the wing nut, it's possible to use the window bracket also for sliding windows. Position the hole of the bracket to allow a correct installation of the exhaust hose.

Setting Up and Recommendations

SET UP INSTRUCTION

For permanent installation, place the Pinguino near the outlet opening in a wall or window (where it is meant to be used). The diagram below shows the correct way to install the exhaust hose.

Diagrams (fig. 10) show correct exhaust hose installation:

Illustrates proper hose routing to prevent water collection and ensure correct bending. Shows "NO" for incorrect routing and "YES" for correct routing.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

Check that the power supply voltage is 115 V ~ 60 Hz.

Important: If you need to use an extension cord, please be sure to use a heavy-duty extension cord (minimum 14 gauge).

Before connecting the Pinguino to the power supply, make sure that all switches on the front control panel are in the OFF position.

Connect the power cord found in the storage compartment at the rear of the Pinguino.

FINAL CHECK

To obtain the maximum performance from your air-conditioner, make sure that:

Diagrams illustrate final checks:

Fig. 11 shows closing the door. Fig. 12 shows closed windows. Fig. 13 shows shading the room with curtains. Fig. 14 shows checking vents. Fig. 15 shows no heat sources.

Control Panel

The control panel features various buttons and indicators for operating the unit.

Key Components:

SETTING THE TIMER

The programmer/timer, like all clocks, must be set to the exact time. Turn the dial clockwise until the current hour aligns with the arrow pointer. Each notch on the dial represents 15 minutes.

Note: Never turn the dial in an anti-clockwise direction.

The timer functions as an electric clock and operates only when the plug is connected to the power supply. If the plug is disconnected or there is a power failure, the timer will stop and must be reset.

The unit can be used in either programmed or non-programmed mode.

PROGRAMMED MODE

  1. Release the Timer button (B).
  2. Set the operating times by pushing out the notches on the dial corresponding to the desired period (each notch represents 15 minutes). For example, to set operation from 9 AM to 11 AM, push out the notches for that time frame.
  3. Check that the timer indicates the correct time.
  4. Select the desired function (e.g., cooling, fan, dehumidification) as shown in the chart.

The unit will then switch on and off each day at the selected times. To override programmed times, simply press the ON/OFF key.

NON-PROGRAMMED MODE

  1. Ensure the Timer button (B) is pressed.
  2. Select the desired function as shown in the chart.

Note on Thermostat: For technical reasons, the temperature is not expressed in degrees but by a line increasing in thickness. We recommend turning the thermostat to maximum (thick green line = maximum cold) when starting up the appliance. Once the desired temperature is reached, slowly turn the thermostat away from the maximum cooling position until the appliance switches off. Leave the thermostat in this position; the air-conditioner is now programmed to maintain that temperature.

After switching the appliance off, wait at least 3 minutes before switching it on again.

How to Start Up the Conditioner

  1. Plug the appliance into the mains.
  2. Select the "programmed" or "non-programmed" mode (refer to the previous page).
  3. Select the fan speed required by pressing the "Fan speed" key (C).
  4. AIR CONDITIONING:
    • Ensure Key A (ON/OFF) is released.
    • Turn the thermostat to Max. Cold.
    • Press Key A (ON/OFF). The ON/OFF signal lamp (conditioning) will come on.
  5. The appliance will start. If it does not, refer to page 14 for troubleshooting.

To switch off the appliance, press Key A (ON/OFF main switch).

Cleaning and Maintenance

PRECAUTIONS

CLEANING OF EXTERNAL HOUSING

Use only mild soap and water. Do not use chemical cleaners.

Clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly with a clean dry cloth.

CONTROLS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON

AIR FILTER CLEANING

Maintenance of air filter: A clogged air filter reduces the quantity of circulating air and the efficiency of the appliance. Clean the filter every week using a vacuum cleaner.

Removal and replacement of air filter: Gently pull the filter upwards. Push down to replace.

Cleaning procedure: To remove dust deposited on the filter, use a vacuum cleaner. If it is very dirty, soak in lukewarm water and rinse thoroughly. The water temperature must be kept below 104°F (40°C). After washing, leave the filter to dry before replacing.

END OF SEASON OPERATIONS

  1. Disconnect the plug.
  2. Remove the plug from the drainage tube to empty the water collecting tray.
  3. Remove the exhaust hose.
  4. Clean the filter and dry it well before replacing.
  5. Cover the appliance with a polyethylene bag to prevent dust from entering. You can use the polyethylene bag included in the packaging.
