Installation
The Jabsco electric toilet may be installed above or below the waterline. The flush pump is self-priming with a vertical lift up to 4 feet (1.2m); the discharge macerator pump can operate against a vertical head up to 4 feet (1.2m). Inlet and outlet seacocks should be easily accessible and be positive shut off valves. If seacocks cannot be conveniently operated from the toilet location, install suitable shut off valves for inlet and discharge connections.
The surface where the toilet is mounted should be flat to prevent distortion of the toilet base.
Plumbing Connections
Connect the inlet hose using 3/4" (19mm) ID hose. Ensure all inlet connections are airtight and free of sharp bends or restrictions.
Connect 1" (25mm) or 1-1/2" (38mm) hose to the discharge port (Adaptor 98023-0080 is included to convert the discharge port to 1-1/2" (38mm) ID hose). Make a suitable connection to a holding tank or other discharge system. Avoid sharp bends or restrictions.
For above waterline installations, a check valve may be necessary in the flush water intake line to ensure rapid pump priming. To retain water in the bowl, install a vented loop in the discharge line approximately 8 inches (200mm) above the base of the bowl.
WARNING: Flood hazard
If the toilet is installed below the waterline, or may be below the waterline at any angle of heel or trim, it must be installed with a properly positioned vented loop. Failure to do so can result in flooding, which can cause loss of property and life.
CAUTION:
Do not connect the toilet to the vessel's potable water supply. This can result in contamination of the potable water supply. If fresh water is preferred for flushing, provide a separate fresh water tank to supply water to the toilet only.
Electrical Connections
Select a location for the switch and instruction plate, ensuring wire leads from both the toilet and power source can be routed to the switch. The panel for the switch should not be more than 1" (25mm) thick. Drill a 5/8" (16mm) mounting hole and install the switch and instruction plate.
Use marine-grade copper wire of the correct size (refer to electrical specifications chart) to connect one side of the switch to the positive power source. Install an appropriately sized fuse or circuit breaker (refer to electrical specifications chart) in the positive power lead within seven inches of the power source.
Connect the other side of the switch to the orange (positive) motor lead. Connect the black (negative) motor lead to the negative side of the battery or grounded buss bar.
NOTICE: Correct motor polarity (orange to positive, black to negative) is crucial. Reverse polarity can damage the motor and void the warranty. Full voltage at the motor is required for proper operation. The toilet must be wired in a circuit independent of all other accessories.
Diagram Description: The diagram shows a typical installation of the marine toilet. It illustrates the toilet bowl, the pump/motor unit, the inlet water line, the discharge line connected to a holding tank, and the electrical wiring including a switch and power source. A key component shown is the vented loop in the discharge line, crucial for preventing backflow and flooding, especially in below-waterline installations.

Operating Instructions
- Ensure inlet and outlet seacocks are open.
- Press the button to operate the pump.
- Operate until the bowl is completely flushed and the discharge pump has scavenged water from the bottom of the bowl.
The Jabsco electric marine toilet is designed for years of trouble-free service if used correctly. It handles waste and toilet tissue but NOT rags, sanitary napkins, or hard solid objects.
If the bowl does not pump out and begins to fill, partially close the inlet valve until the bowl is cleared and completely pumped out. Then, operate for a few seconds with both valves open to clear the entire toilet and discharge system.
For maximum safety, when the toilet is not in use or the vessel is unattended, close both the inlet and discharge seacocks.
To drain for winter lay-up, close the inlet valve and operate for a few seconds until all water is pumped out.
After long periods of non-use, the toilet and pump may dry out. To ease initial start-up, add about one quart of water to the bowl and let it stand for a while before initial use.
Disassembly
WARNING: Flood hazard.
Close inlet and outlet seacocks prior to disassembling the toilet. Failure to do so can result in flooding, causing loss of property and life.
- Disconnect the pumping inlet and discharge hoses.
- Remove four screws (Key No. 25) and pull out the complete motor, pump, and macerator assembly. If the assembly does not slide out easily, push forward and pull back sharply several times to free the macerator housing from the base.
- Remove the discharge port (Key No. 12) and the joker valve.
- Unscrew the chopper plate (Key No. 14) by turning counter-clockwise (when facing the plate). Prevent the shaft from turning by inserting a screwdriver into the discharge port and locking the centrifugal impeller blade.
- Remove the macerator housing. Loosen the impeller set screw and slide the impeller off the motor shaft.
- Remove four flathead screws and two washers (Key Nos. 20, 21, & 22).
- Remove the plastic wear plate (Key No. 23) with the sealing sleeve (Key No. 19) and gasket (Key No. 26).
- Slide the pump assembly off the motor shaft. Replace any worn or damaged parts and clean the remaining parts.
Assembly
- Press the seal into the body with the lip facing the impeller, ensuring it is not cocked in the bore.
- Install the pump body onto the motor and position it on the register.
- Lubricate the impeller bore with pump grease and install the impeller.
- Position the gasket against the body and install the wearplate, ensuring the two plastic sealing washers are under the heads of the top and bottom screws.
- Slide the rubber sealing sleeve onto the motor shaft and push it into its recess in the wearplate.
- Relocate the centrifugal impeller onto the shaft, approximately 1/8" (3mm) from the wearplate, and tighten the set screw.
- Place the macerator housing over the shaft and centrifugal impeller. Put a lock washer on the end of the shaft and screw the chopper plate onto the shaft, then tighten.
- Install the O-ring in the O-ring groove on the wearplate surface. A little grease will help hold it in place. Ensure inside body surfaces are clean.
- Align the slot in the base with the key on the macerator housing. Slide the pump assembly into the base and tighten with the four screws.
- Turn the motor on for one or two seconds to ensure the centrifugal impeller is free.
