Battery recharge

The G18 PRO uses a 7.4V Li-ion rechargeable battery pack. Recharge using the provided AC/DC wall adaptor and desktop charger. Full recharge takes 4 hours.

Desktop charger LED status:

For optimal battery life, charge the pack when the G18 PRO is off and the battery is fully discharged.

WARNING: Using a different battery charger can cause damage or personal injury. The Battery power saving feature can reduce consumption by up to 50% and activates automatically when the transceiver does not receive a signal for over 5 seconds. This feature can only be disabled via the Programming software.

Operations

Power on/off and volume adjustment

Rotate the PWR/VOL knob clockwise to turn on. Adjust volume by rotating the knob. Rotate counter-clockwise to turn off.

Transmission and reception

To communicate, all radios must be on the same channel. Press Function key 1 to enable Monitor, then press PTT to transmit. Release PTT to receive. Use transmission sparingly to conserve battery.

Monitor

Press Function key 1 briefly to exclude Squelch and listen to weak signals.

Roger Beep (end transmission tone)

A beep sounds when the PTT button is released, indicating the end of transmission. This feature is disabled by default and can be activated via programming software.

Alarm function (Emergency)

Pressing the Emergency button activates Alarm Emergency mode. The radio transmits for 30 seconds with an alarm sound, then remains in transmission for another 30 seconds to allow communication of status. It then switches to reception. This function can be activated via programming software.

MENU functions

Access menu functions by pressing the MENU button.

Scan

Press Function key 2 for 3 seconds to start scanning. Scanning stops on a busy channel and resumes 5 seconds after the signal disappears. Pressing PTT transmits on the last busy channel; scanning resumes 5 seconds after releasing PTT.

PRI (Priority Scan)

Alternately scans standard channels and a priority channel (set via programming software). Default priority channel is CH1.

VOX

Enables hands-free communication. Speak into the microphone to activate transmission. VOX sensitivity is adjustable in 10 levels (0-9) via menu or programming software.

POW – Setting the transmission power

G18 PRO has 2 power levels. Select desired level via MENU > POW. Default power is 500mW.

Squelch

Suppresses noise and allows reception of weak signals. 10 levels (0-9) available. Level 0 is off. Default level is 5. Adjust via MENU > SQL.

Scrambler

Protects communications from unauthorized listening. Enable/disable via MENU > SCRM. Requires all communicating parties to have this feature enabled.

Led - Backlight

Enable/disable LCD backlight via MENU > LED. Options: ON, OFF, AUTO (activates on key press). Note: ON mode disables power saving.

Keypad Beep on/off

Keypad beep is enabled by default. Disable via MENU > BEEP.

Keypad lock (KEYBO)

Choose between MANUAL (press FUN + ENT for 3 seconds) or AUTO (locks after 20 seconds). Display shows 'A' when locked. Press FUN + ENT to unlock.

TOT- Funzione TX timeout timer

Temporarily blocks transmissions after a set time to prevent continuous transmission. Radio forces reception if the threshold is exceeded. Restart transmission by releasing PTT. Enable via MENU > TOT, set timer from 30 to 270 seconds.

SCAN mode settings

Select scan type (TO, CO, SE) via MENU > SCANS.

Exclude channels from scan list: select channel, press and hold ENT for 4 seconds. Display shows confirmation. Repeat to add channel back.

VOICE function

Provides voice prompts for operations/selections. Enable via MENU > VOICE.

C-CDC / R-CDC / T-CDC

CTCSS tones and DCS codes can be added to channels for private communication. Communicate only with users on the same channel with the same code. Up to 50 CTCSS tones and 105 DCS codes per channel.

Select CTCSS tone: MENU > C-CDC (TX/RX), R-CDC (RX only), or T-CDC (TX only) > ENT > select tone > ENT.

Selecting a DCS code disables CTCSS tones, and vice versa.

Name - Nome

Set a custom name to display instead of the channel number.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
The radio doesn't switch on The battery pack is discharged and/or has not been installed correctly. Verify that the battery pack is charged and correctly installed.
The radio switches off shortly after it has been switched on Discharged battery pack. Recharge the battery pack.
The battery pack does not recharge The battery-charger has not been connected or installed correctly. Inspect the battery-charger connections and battery installation.
The radio switches on but is unable to receive signals The site of installation is too shielded. The volume is too low. Incorrect CTCSS or DCS. An incorrect radio channel has been selected. Move to a different area. Adjust the volume level. Check that the CTCSS tone or DCS code corresponds to the one set by the communicating parties. Select the same radio channel used by the communicating parties.
It is not possible to communicate with other parties Incorrect CTCSS or DCS. The radio is installed in a shielded area or is too far from the communicating party. Other parties are using the same channel. The radio is too close to equipment causing interference (TVs, computers, etc.). Transmission time is too long. Check that the CTCSS tone or DCS code corresponds to the one set by the communicating parties. Move to a different area. Check radio channel traffic via Monitor and select another channel if needed. Increase distance from interfering equipment. Reduce transmission time and/or use low power.
Reception is fragmented and/or disturbed The signal is very weak. The transmission distance is excessive and/or there are obstacles in the transmission path. Try temporarily disabling the Squelch using the Monitor feature. Move closer to the communicating party or to another area.
The autonomy of the battery pack is limited
