This document provides essential guidance for the installation and mounting of the Maxx Air Solar Powered Roof Exhaust Fan. It details the necessary tools and offers a step-by-step process to ensure proper setup for effective attic ventilation.
The guide covers crucial steps such as preparing the installation site, determining optimal fan positioning for solar exposure, marking and cutting the roof opening, securing the unit, and making necessary adjustments for peak performance.
Tools Required
- Ladder
- Reciprocating saw (or jig saw)
- Power drill with 1/2″ – 1" drill bit
- 1" - 2" deck screws and screw bit
- Hammer & roofing nails (or self-tapping galvanized screws)
- Caulk gun with waterproof roofing sealant
- Measuring tape
- Permanent marker (or chalk / crayon)
- Roofing knife (or box cutter)
- Flat pry bar
Installation Steps
- Ventilation Clearance: Ensure proper airflow by clearing existing rooftop vents.
- Positioning the Solar Fan: Locate the fan on the roof for maximum sunlight, typically south or southwest.
- Marking the Ventilation Hole: Measure and mark the precise location for the fan's duct.
- Cutting the Hole: Carefully cut the opening in the roof sheeting and shingles.
- Lifting Shingles: Prepare the roof surface by lifting shingles to allow the fan to slide underneath.
- Securing the Solar Fan: Fasten the fan securely and apply sealant to prevent leaks.
- Installing Angel Adjustment Bracket: (For adjustable models) Attach brackets to set the solar panel angle.
- Adjusting the Solar Panel: Position the panel to maximize daily sun exposure.
Important Cautions
Exercise caution when operating near the fan, as it activates automatically in sunlight. Installation and electrical work should be performed by qualified professionals, adhering to all building codes and fire safety requirements. Adequate attic ventilation is also crucial for the safe operation of any fuel-burning equipment.
