Safety Warning

WARNING! Incorrect operation and incorrectly performed work can cause serious personal injury or material damage. The Fronius Smart Meter may only be installed and commissioned by trained personnel and only within the scope of the technical regulations. Before working with the device, read and understand all enclosed, printed, and online documents. This document does not describe all possible system configurations.

Installation Steps

  1. Step 1: Switch Off the Circuit Breaker

Ensure the circuit breaker connected to the system is in the OFF position [power-off symbol].

  2. Step 2: Mount the Smart Meter

Install the Fronius Smart Meter in the designated location, typically within a switch cabinet.

  3. Step 3: Connect the Auxiliary Power Supply

Connect the power supply (100-240 V AC/DC ±10%) to the appropriate terminals (L/N/+/- or N/L/-/+).

  4. Step 4: Connect Wiring

Connect the Smart Meter according to your system configuration. The diagrams illustrate various setups:

    • 4a: 1 Phase, 2 Wires - CT: Single-phase connection using a Current Transformer (CT).
    • 4b: 1 Phase, 2 Wires - VT/CT: Single-phase connection using Voltage Transformer (VT) and CT.
    • 4c: 2 Phases, 3 Wires - CT: Two-phase connection using a CT.
    • 4d: 2 Phases, 3 Wires - VT/CT: Two-phase connection using VT and CT.
    • 4e: 3 Phases, 3 Wires - CT: Three-phase connection using a CT.
    • 4f: 3 Phases, 3 Wires - VT/CT: Three-phase connection using VT and CT.
    • 4g: 3 Phases, 4 Wires - ARON CT: Three-phase connection with neutral using an ARON CT.
    • 4h: 3 Phases, 4 Wires - CT: Three-phase connection with neutral using a CT.
    • 4i: 3 Phases, 4 Wires - VT/CT: Three-phase connection with neutral using VT and CT.
  5. Step 5: Connect Data Cables

Connect data cables (CU Wire, min CAT 5, ≥0.05 mm², torque 0.4 Nm) between the Inverter and Smart Meter Modbus interface. Use terminals D+, D-, GND for Inverter communication and M1+, M1-, GND for Smart Meter Modbus communication.

  6. Step 6 & 7: Set Up Terminating Resistor

Set up the terminating resistor if necessary. Ensure the bypass cable is connected. Refer to the manufacturer's manual. Maximum communication cable length is 300 meters.

  7. Step 8: Switch On the Circuit Breaker

Turn the circuit breaker to the ON position [power-on symbol].

  8. Step 9: Navigate Settings

Use the device interface to navigate settings. Press buttons once to change pages or values, and press and hold for 2 seconds to adjust or confirm.

  9. Step 10: Enter Settings

Input initial settings, such as voltage (L1, L2, L3) and power (kW). Default values are displayed.

  10. Step 11: Setup Password

Set a password. The factory default is '2633'.

  11. Step 12: Setup Transformation Ratio

Configure the transformation ratio (e.g., 400 A / 10) based on your system's current transformers.

  12. Step 13: Setup Address

Assign a Modbus address. The factory default is '001'.

  13. Step 14: Exit Settings

Confirm and exit the settings menu.
