MPPT Technology Explained

Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is a sophisticated algorithm that continuously adjusts the solar module's operating point to extract the maximum available power. This technology ensures optimal energy harvesting throughout the day, even under varying weather conditions, by tracking the array's maximum power point voltage (Vmp).

Charging Stages

The Rover MPPT charge controller utilizes a four-stage battery charging algorithm:

  1. Bulk Charge: Utilizes 100% of available solar power for rapid charging.
  2. Boost Charge: Maintains a charge for a default period, adjustable by the user.
  3. Float Charge: Reduces voltage to maintain a full battery charge, offsetting self-consumption.
  4. Equalization: Periodically overcharges batteries (excluding VRLA, AGM, Gel, Lithium unless specified) to balance voltage and stir electrolyte, promoting battery health.

  • Connect battery terminals before solar panel terminals.
  • Never connect inverters or battery chargers to the load terminal.
