Quick Start Guide

If you are a Windows user, please find the appropriate keycaps in the box and follow the instructions to replace them.

Mac / Windows Keyboard Layout

A visual representation of the Mac/Windows keyboard layout is provided, showing key placements for functions like Esc, F1-F12, number keys, tab, caps lock, shift, control, option, command, alt, and navigation keys.

Connecting the Keyboard

1. Connect Bluetooth

Switch the toggle to Bluetooth. Press fn + 1 (for 4 seconds) to pair with the device named Keychron K8.

2. Connect Cable

Switch the toggle to Cable. Connect the keyboard to your PC or laptop using the Type-C cable.

Keyboard Features and Operations

3. Change Light Effect

Press the light effect key to cycle through different lighting effects. For RGB versions, press fn + right arrow or fn + left arrow to change colors.

4. Switch Between Function and Multimedia Keys (F1-F12)

For Windows: Press fn + X + L (for 4 seconds) to switch.

For Mac: Go to System Settings > Keyboard and enable the function keys. For F5 & F6 as function keys, press fn + K + C (for 3 seconds) and use the same shortcut to switch.

5. Disable Auto Sleep Mode

Press fn + S + O (for 4 seconds) to disable the Auto Sleep Mode. The keyboard enters Auto Sleep Mode after 10 minutes of inactivity to save battery.

6. Remap Keys

Keychron does not provide official software for remapping keys yet. Users can use third-party software like Karabiner (for Mac) or SharpKeys (for Windows). Keychron is developing its own software, expected later in the year.

6.5 Linux's Setting

For Linux users, join the "Keychron Linux Group" on Facebook for assistance.

7. Turn Off the Backlight

For Mac: Press F5 key.

For Windows: Press fn + F5 key.

Alternatively, press the fn + light effect key.

8. Activate Siri / Cortana

For Siri on Mac: Go to System Preferences > Siri > select "Press Fn (Function) Space" option. (Note: Siri key only works on macOS and not on iOS.)

For Cortana on Windows: Select Start > Settings > Cortana and select the shortcut by pressing Windows key + C. (Note: Windows Cortana is available for Windows 10 and above, and may not be available in all regions.)

Function Description: Charging

Plug the cable into a USB port and the other end into the keyboard port. The Charging Indicator shows:

*The Keychron keyboard is compatible with all USB ports. Use a 5V 2A adapter or USB 3.0 for best performance. The K8 can be charged in Bluetooth/on/off mode.

** Supports up to 5V charging voltage and 2A charging current. Keychron is not responsible for problems caused by improper charging.

Bluetooth/Wired Mode (Toggle Switch)

Wired Mode

  1. Switch the toggle to Cable option (works only with a USB cable plugged in).
  2. Connect the cable to your PC and keyboard.
  3. Backlit will be turned on.

*Under Wired Mode, the keyboard will not enter Battery Saver Mode.

Bluetooth Mode

  1. Switch the keyboard to Bluetooth option.
  2. Backlit will be turned on.
  3. Hold "Fn+1" key for 4 seconds to activate Bluetooth pairing (Bluetooth indicator flashes rapidly for 3 minutes).
  4. Search for the Bluetooth device "Keychron K8" on your device and connect. The Bluetooth indicator goes off after successful pairing.

Note: This keyboard supports pairing up to 3 devices simultaneously via combination keys "fn" + "1" / "fn" + "2" / "fn" + "3".

*The Bluetooth indicator will continue to flash for 3 minutes.

**Slow or failed connections may exist due to different Bluetooth versions. Ensure all settings are correct.

Switch Bluetooth Devices

Short press combination key "fn" + "1" / "fn" + "2" / "fn" + "3" to switch to other devices.

Reconnect

  1. Switch the keyboard to the Bluetooth option to activate it (it will connect to the last connected device by default).
  2. The Bluetooth indicator flashes for 4 seconds and automatically pairs with the last paired device.
  3. If the Bluetooth indicator is off, press any button to enter the connection again.

*The keyboard must have been paired with the device to perform this function.

Turn Off the Keyboard

Switch to "Off".

Battery Saver

Under Bluetooth mode, the keyboard backlight turns off when inactive for 10 minutes. Tap any button to wake the keyboard. To disable this auto battery save mode, press fn+S+O for 4 seconds. To re-enable it, press fn+S+O for 4 seconds.

OS Switch

1- MAC/iOS

Turn the switch to Mac/iOS when connected to a Mac or iOS operating system.

2- WINDOWS/ANDROID

Switch the toggle to Windows/Android when the keyboard is connected to a Windows or Android operating system.

*When using the Windows/Android mode, the [Windows key] and [Alt key] are used for "Windows" and "Alt" functions respectively.

3- INPUT METHOD SWITCH

NOTE: Functions of certain multimedia keys may be disabled due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS. It is recommended not to switch OS frequently as it may impact keyboard operations.

Troubleshooting

If unable to pair keyboard to device: Confirm the device is Bluetooth-capable. If so, restart the device and try pairing again.

Note: On a Windows computer, a new Bluetooth connection may require additional software updates. Wait at least 20 minutes after pairing to ensure all updates are completed before restarting the computer.

Confirm the device is configured to accept Bluetooth connections (Windows) and supports an external keyboard (HID profile).

Go to Bluetooth Devices > Open Settings and select:

My keyboard isn't working.

Bluetooth connection is interrupted even within 10 meters.

Check if the keyboard is resting on a metal surface that can interfere with the Bluetooth signal.

Third party input tools are not compatible with the keyboard.

Due to compatibility, versions, brands, and drivers of Windows/Android OS, functions of third-party input tools may be affected. Ensure your operating system and drivers are up to date.

Certain fn keys or multimedia keys do not work under Windows/Android mode.
