Neutrik etherCON CAT6A Cable Connector Assembly Instructions
NE8MX6-T & NE8MX6-B-T
Tools Required
- ?️ HX-CAT6A or pliers wrench
- ✂️ Wire cutter
- ? Cable pulling lubricant
Cable Specifications
Cable O.D.: 7.0 - 9.5 mm (0.28 - 0.37")
Wire Size: AWG 26/1 - AWG 24/1 (solid) / AWG 27/7 - AWG 24/7 (stranded)
Insulation Diameter: > 0.85 - 1.1 mm (0.033 - 0.043")
Assembly Steps
-
Step 1: Prepare Cable Entry
Slide the boot (1) and the chuck (2) onto the cable. For easier assembly, apply some cable pulling lubricant to the cable ends.
[Diagram A Description: Shows the boot and chuck being slid onto the end of a network cable.]
-
Step 2: Strip Cable Jacket
Prepare the cable as shown and strip the outer jacket to a length of 40 mm.
[Diagram B Description: Illustrates stripping the cable jacket to expose the inner shielding and wires.]
-
Step 3: Prepare Shielding and Wires
Follow the procedure based on your cable type:
- S/FTP: Cut off the braided shield to approximately 10 mm and fold it backwards.
- U/FTP: Remove the foil of the paired wires and bend back the drain wire for easier handling. The drain wire will be used for grounding.
- SF/UTP: Cut off the braided shield to approximately 10 mm and fold it backwards. Cut and remove the foil screen.
[Diagram 2.A, B, C Description: Shows different methods for preparing the shield and drain wire depending on the cable construction (S/FTP, U/FTP, SF/UTP).]
-
Step 4: Trim Pair Screening
Remove the pair screening (if existing) to a maximum length of 6 mm.
[Diagram 3 Description: Shows trimming the individual pair shielding.]
-
Step 5: Untwist and Arrange Pairs
Presort and untwist the wire pairs as shown.
[Diagram 4 Description: Illustrates untwisting the twisted pairs of wires.]
-
Step 6: Insert Wires into Management
Insert the wires into the designated positions of the wire management according to the T568A or T568B wiring scheme.
[Diagram C Description: Shows wires being inserted into the wire management structure, aligning with specific slots.]
Wiring Scheme:
? [Component Side] Connection Color Code (T568A) Color Code (T568B) RJ 45 PIN No. 1 2 8 73 6 4 51 W-G W-O 1 2 W-O W-G 2 3 BL BL 3 4 W-BL W-BL 4 5 W-BL W-BL 5 6 G O 6 7 W-BR W-BR 7 8 BR BR 8 -
Step 7: Press Wire Management
Use the HX-CAT6A or pliers wrench to press the wire management together.
Attention: Distance between the cable jacket and the wire management shall not exceed 15 - 17 mm (0.59" - 0.67"). Best return loss: < 15 mm.
Cut all wires with a wire cutter, allowing them to protrude a maximum of 0.5 mm. Remove the assembly guidance.
[Diagram D Description: Shows using a tool to compress the wire management and trimming the wire ends.]
-
Step 8: Position Ground Shells
Position the ground shells over the wires as shown.
Attention: Align the coding nibs of the ground shells to the grooves in between the wire pairs in the wire management.
[Diagram E Description: Illustrates placing the ground shells onto the prepared wires.]
-
Step 9: Prepare Shield and Drain Wire
- A. S/FTP & SF/UTP: Put the cable shield over the ground shell and distribute the shield wires circumferentially.
- B. U/FTP: Put the drain wire over the ground shell and wrap it circumferentially.
[Diagram F Description: Shows how to position the cable shield and drain wire around the ground shell.]
-
Step 10: Slide Chuck
Slide the chuck over the cable-shield / drain wire and the ground shell towards the end-position.
Attention: Align the slots of the chuck to the ribs of the ground shell.
[Diagram G Description: Shows sliding the chuck component over the cable assembly.]
-
Step 11: Insert into Housing
Slide the pre-assembled cable (from Step 10) into the connector housing.
Attention: Align the side of the wire management with wire numbers 1/2, 8/7 to the side of the housing that has the Neutrik logo and the slot.
Slide the gasket onto the chuck.
[Diagram H Description: Depicts inserting the assembled cable into the main connector body and placing the gasket.]
-
Step 12: Finish Installation
Finish the installation by turning the bushing onto the connector.
? Option: Use the handtool HTXX-14 to tighten the bushing.
[Diagram I Description: Shows the final step of screwing the bushing onto the connector.]
