Processing
General Recommendations
Due to the specific structure of cast PU floor coverings, there is a risk of migration of components into the floor covering, which can lead to discoloration. For this reason, Bona does not recommend using Bona SuperSport Zone Paint on cast PU floors.
Optimal processing conditions are between 18-22°C and 40-60% relative humidity. High temperatures and low humidity shorten drying time, while low temperatures and high humidity prolong drying time.
Application Steps
- Check the color code and batch number on the paint container. Use paint from the same batch number on the same floor. Alternatively, the entire amount of paint to be used can be carefully mixed together in a separate container to ensure color consistency.
- Mix the paint thoroughly and pour the required amount into a separate container, e.g., a Bona Mixing Bucket.
- Slowly add 8.2% Bona SuperSport HD Hardener (one full bottle per bucket) to the mixing bucket while stirring mechanically. Stir thoroughly mechanically for at least 1 minute.
- Allow the mixture to react for at least 5 minutes before application and use the mixture within the recommended pot life of a maximum of 3 hours.
- Apply the mixed paint with a Bona SuperCoat Roller (11 mm pile) at approx. 12-15 m²/l. Roll with a uniform, flowing motion, avoiding puddles.
- Normally, an additional coat of Bona SuperSport Zone Paint is not required, and you can proceed with 1 to 2 coats of the corresponding Bona SuperSport varnish. To ensure good adhesion, the next coat, whether paint or varnish, should be applied within a maximum of 48 hours. If this period is exceeded, intermediate sanding with a Bona Scrad Pad must be performed. After sanding, the surface must be thoroughly dusted before applying the next coat.
Important Notes
Note: Bona SuperSport Zone Paint should never be used as a final seal.
Tip: Intermediate sanding of a coat should ideally be avoided, as there is always a risk that the color tone may be disturbed, which would require another coat. If it is known that, for example, more than 48 hours are needed after the last coat of Bona SuperSport Zone Paint to complete the line marking, it is best to apply a coat of Bona SuperSport varnish to the Bona SuperSport Zone Paint within 48 hours and then proceed with the line marking. The varnish can then be intermediate sanded before further coats without the risk of disturbing the color of the Bona SuperSport Zone Paint.
Important Warnings
- Plasticizers contained in materials such as carpet underlays, furniture feet, castors, and adhesives can lead to softening and discoloration. Contact with hair dyes or rubber tires from cars, bicycles, and strollers can cause permanent, irreversible discoloration of the surface. Use protection or avoid contact completely.
- Due to the specific composition of PU floor coverings, there is a risk of migration of components from the floor covering, which can lead to discoloration. For this reason, Bona advises against the use of Bona SuperSport Zone Paint on PU floors.
