Using the Dryer
Getting Started
IMPORTANT: Clean the lint filter each time you use the dryer.
Drying Cycles (Features may vary by model)
- Normal: For cottons and most linens.
- Casuals: For wrinkle-free, permanent press, delicate items, and knits.
- Delicates: For delicate items, special-care fabrics, and knits.
- Timed Dry: Set the Cycle Selector to the desired drying time.
- Quick Fluff: For freshening or fluffing dry clothing, fabrics, linens, and pillows. Use with No Heat. Provides 10 minutes of no-heat tumbling.
Sensor cycles automatically determine fabric dryness. Select 'Less dry' for slightly damp clothes, 'More dry' for drier clothes. Timed cycles run for a selected time.
Temperature Settings (Features may vary by model)
- High: For regular to heavy cottons.
- Medium: For synthetics, blends, delicate items, and permanent press.
- Low: For delicates, synthetics, and items labeled tumble dry low.
- No Heat: For fluffing items without heat. Use with Timed Dry cycle.
Controls and Options
- Start (C): Close the dryer door. Select Start. Opening the door stops the dryer. Close door and select Start to resume.
- Drying times vary by heat type (Electric, Gas), load size, fabric type, wetness, and exhaust duct condition.
- Extended Tumble Option (D): Minimizes wrinkles by providing approximately 15 minutes of no-heat tumbling after the clothes are dry. Usable with Normal and Casuals cycles. A signal will sound during this option.
- Cycle Sound Option (E): A signal sounds just before the end of the cycle to remind you to remove clothes. The sound level may not be adjustable. If Extended Tumble is selected, the signal sounds at the end of drying and during Extended Tumble.
NOTE: Remove garments promptly at the signal. Hang clothes to prevent wrinkles. Use Cycle Sound for fabrics like polyester knits and permanent press.
Automatic Cycle Signal
Approximately 15 minutes of no-heat tumbling occurs after the laundry is dry. A reminder signal sounds periodically during this time.
Loading
Always follow fabric manufacturer's care label when laundering.
Sorting and Loading Hints
⚠️ WARNING ? - Fire or Explosion Hazard
- Keep flammable materials and vapors (e.g., gasoline) away from dryer.
- DO NOT dry anything that has ever had flammable substances on it.
- DO NOT dry anything with oil on it (including cooking oils).
- Items containing foam, rubber, or plastic must be dried on a clothesline.
- Failure to follow these warnings can result in death, explosion, or fire.
Sort items by size. Do not overload; this wastes energy and causes wrinkling.
Do not add fabric softener sheets once the load has become warm, as they may cause stains. Bounce® Fabric Conditioner Dryer Sheets are approved for use.
Drying Rack (on some models)
A drying rack can be used for delicate items like washable sweaters.
To install the drying rack:
- Lift the lint filter slightly (do not remove completely).
- Place the rack in the dryer, lower its front legs, and hook them in the slots.
- Press the rack down flat and lower the lint filter back into position.
- The drying rack must be used with the Timed Dry cycle.
- Do not use this rack with other clothes in the dryer.
- To order a drying rack (if not included): Model WE01X25160 from GEApplianceparts.com or call 877.959.8688.

Care and Cleaning
Interior and Duct
The interior and exhaust duct should be cleaned annually by a qualified service person. Inspect and clean the exhaust ducting at least once a year to prevent clogging.
Steps to clean the exhaust duct:
- Turn off electrical supply by unplugging the appliance.
- Disconnect the duct from the dryer.
- Vacuum the duct with a hose attachment and reconnect it.
Check the exhaust hood flaps to ensure they move freely and are clear of wildlife nests.
Exterior
Wipe spills or washing compounds with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh pretreatment or stain remover products directly on the dryer's control panel or finish.
Lint Filter
Clean the lint filter before each use. A waxy buildup may form from fabric softener sheets; wash the screen in warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly. If dryer performance changes, vacuum the lint filter area. NEVER OPERATE THE DRYER WITHOUT ITS FILTER IN PLACE.
[Diagram Description: Illustration shows a lint filter being removed from its slot.]
Stainless Steel
Clean with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner. Rinse and dry.
Alloy Steel Drum (on some models)
The alloy steel drum is durable and will not rust or corrode, even if scratched or dented.
Drum Light (on some models)
Before replacing the bulb, unplug the dryer or turn off the circuit breaker. Reach inside the drum, remove the old bulb, and replace it with the same size bulb.
[Diagram Description: Illustration shows the interior of the dryer drum with an arrow pointing to the location of the drum light bulb.]
Reversing the Door
Tools needed: Standard #2 Phillips screwdriver, tape-tipped putty knife.
- Open the door. Remove filler plugs opposite the hinges. With the door fully open, remove the bottom screw from each hinge on the dryer face. Insert these screws halfway into the TOP holes on the opposite side.
- Loosen the top screw from each hinge halfway. Support the door with one hand and lift it UP and OUT to remove it.
- Remove the blind plate (hinge side) and strike plate (opposite side) by removing their screws. Reinstall the plates on the opposite sides using two screws each.
- Rotate the door 180°. Insert it on the opposite side by moving it IN and DOWN until the hinges rest on the top screws inserted in step 1.
- Remove remaining screws from the original hinge side. Secure the hinges at the bottom with these screws. Tighten the top screws. Reinsert the plastic plugs on the side where the door was removed.
[Diagram Description: Series of illustrations showing steps for reversing the dryer door: removing plugs, loosening screws, lifting door off, swapping hinge plates, rotating door, and reattaching hinges with screws and plugs.]
Venting
For best drying performance, the dryer must be properly vented. Improper venting uses more energy and runs longer.
- Use only rigid metal 4" (10.2 cm) diameter ductwork inside the dryer cabinet.
- Use rigid metal or UL-listed flexible metal 4" (10.2 cm) diameter ductwork for exhausting to the outside.
- Do not use plastic or other combustible ductwork.
- Use the shortest length possible.
- Do not crush or collapse the duct.
- Avoid resting the duct on sharp objects.
- Venting must conform to local building codes.
⚠️ WARNING ? - Fire Hazard
This dryer MUST be exhausted to the outdoors. Use only 4" (10.2 cm) rigid metal ducting for the home exhaust duct and transition duct. DO NOT use plastic vents. DO NOT exhaust into chimneys, kitchen exhausts, gas vents, walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or concealed spaces. DO NOT install screens or booster fans in the exhaust duct. DO NOT use duct longer than specified in the exhaust length table. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or fire.
