LIGHT IT! Motion Activated Path Light
Instructions and Installation
Features & General Information
The Motion-Activated Path Light is a battery-operated outdoor light that installs in minutes. It is perfect for lighting paths, porches, decks, sheds, garages, doors, and fences, providing added safety, security, or convenience. The Path Light is completely weather-proof and can be safely mounted outdoors without special tools or the expense of hiring an electrician. It also works well indoors.
The Path Light features a built-in motion sensor that automatically turns the light on at night when a moving heat source is detected. The light stays on for approximately 20 seconds and remains illuminated as long as motion continues to be detected in the area. A photo sensor prevents the light from activating during the day or when the area is already illuminated by another light source.
Equipped with six (6) ultra-bright Floodlight LEDs™, these lights are designed to last for more than 100,000 hours and will never need replacement. Unlike conventional LEDs that illuminate only a small surface, Floodlight LEDs cast an ultra-wide, glare-free beam, helping to light your path or provide convenient hands-free illumination in hard-to-see areas.
Battery Installation
To install batteries, first slide the light off the wall mounting plate, as shown in the illustration below.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows how to detach the light unit from its mounting plate. Arrows indicate a sliding motion away from the plate.
Slide open the battery door located on the back of the light in the direction indicated by the arrow. Remove any protective tape and screws, then insert 4 AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity as indicated inside the battery compartment. Replace the battery door and slide it completely closed.
Selecting Location
The motion sensor has a maximum detection distance of 10 feet and a detection angle of 100°. When selecting a location, avoid installing the Path Light near heaters, heat vents, or other heat sources. Reflective surfaces, such as light-colored walls or mirrors, may trigger the motion sensor and cause false activations. Be aware that pets can activate the motion sensor, and in some locations, external factors like automobiles and pedestrians may also need consideration.
Suggestion: Before permanently mounting the light, it is recommended to load batteries and test potential locations by placing the light on a shelf or temporary stand to evaluate coverage and sensitivity at different heights.
Installing The Light
- Slide the mounting plate off the back of the Path Light, as shown in Illustration A.
Illustration A Description: Shows the mounting plate being separated from the back of the light unit.
- Ensure the arrows on the mounting plate are pointed upwards, as shown in Illustration B. Securely fasten the mounting plate to the wall or another stable surface using the included 2 wood screws or double-sided tape. Screws are generally recommended for exterior installations.
Illustration B Description: Depicts the mounting plate oriented with directional arrows pointing upwards, indicating the correct mounting position.
- It is recommended to drill pilot holes before fastening screws. For surfaces like drywall, cement, or brick, special fasteners may be required.
- Slide the two knobs on the back of the Path Light down into the corresponding two slots on the mounting plate, as shown in Illustration C.
Illustration C Description: Illustrates the final step where the light unit's knobs align and slide into the slots on the mounted plate.
ATTENTION: Precautions
To avoid damage to the electrical components, please observe the following precautions:
- Do not aim the sensor directly towards the sun.
- Do not shake or drop the light.
- Do not expose the light to static electricity.
- Please note that the circuit requires 90 – 180 seconds to stabilize after the batteries are inserted.
- Do not mix battery types (e.g., carbon, alkaline, lithium, or NiMH).
