Safety Precaution

Thank you for choosing our portable DVD player.

The unit applies the latest state of art electronics and is designed for use at home, in hotels and in offices etc for relaxation. The compact size makes carrying easier as well as installation. Please read the manual carefully prior to use and keep it well for later consultation.

Warning: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture.

  1. Please read the instruction manual carefully and follow all the requirements of safe operation to operate the device.
  2. Do not use this unit near water. Do not place over the unit any container with liquid inside.
  3. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  4. Unplug this unit during lightning storms or when unused for long time.
  5. About Cleaning: Unplug the system, use only wet cloth to clean. Do not use liquid detergent or aerosol.
  6. Only use accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  7. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel, servicing is required when the unit has been damaged in any way, such as power supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the unit, exposed to moisture, does not operate normally. Don't try to repair the machine by yourself because of the danger of high voltage and electric shock.
  8. Do not use irregular shaped discs such as heart or star-shaped discs as they may cause the unit to malfunction.

The light flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated "dangerous voltage" within product's enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock.

The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operation and servicing instructions in the literature accompanying the appliance.

System Connection

Powering And Installation

To power the unit using the AC/DC adapter, plug one end into the unit's DC IN 9-12V jack and the other end into an AC power receptacle.

To power the unit using the car cigarette lighter adapter, plug one end into the unit's DC IN 9-12V jack and the other end into the car cigarette lighter socket.

Note: The car cigarette lighter adapter is usable only with cars having DC 12V negative grounding. The mains plug serves as the disconnect device and should remain easily accessible.

Using SD/MMC card

Insert an SD or MMC card into the corresponding slot flatly with the label side upward until a click is heard.

Using USB

Insert a USB drive directly into the USB slot.

Connecting To The Monitor

The unit can be connected to an external LCD monitor. Power the unit using either the AC/DC adapter or cigarette lighter adapter. Connect the unit's DC OUT jack to the external monitor's DC IN 9-12V jack using a DC/AV cable. Also, connect the unit's AV OUT jack to the external monitor's AV IN jack using the same DC/AV cable.

Note: It is recommended to power both units using the cigarette lighter adapter. The AC/DC adapter is for powering one unit and charging the main unit if it has a built-in battery.

In Car Installation

1. Fit the straps to the DVD Player / Monitor as required. Use strap A (long) and strap B (short) together.

Turn the player around so the backs are facing you.

Strap A through the unit from right clip first, then across the loop in Strap B, last Strap A through the unit left clip.

2. Fitting the straps to the headrest.

Fit the straps around the headrest and engage the 2 trident clips. Ensure clips are securely fastened.

Pull the straps tight using the adjustment. Tuck the loose ends into the strap tidy.

NOTE: Ensure the installation is complete before using the SDVD8739 in the car. For optimal cable routing, it is recommended that the DVD Player is mounted on the LEFT headrest, as shown in the illustration.

Connecting With External Speaker

The unit can be connected with external speakers. The unit's AV OUT is connected via an AV CABLE (not supplied) to the VIDEO IN and AUDIO IN ports of a TV and AMPLIFIER. The AMPLIFIER is then connected to multiple speakers: Left front speaker, Center speaker, Right front speaker, SUBWOOFER, Left rear speaker, and Right rear speaker.

Note: The unit does not support 5.1 channel audio directly, but can output audio in 5.1 channel after connecting to an APM (Amplifier).

The Remote Control

The remote control has the following buttons:

  • 1-9, 0, 10+: Number buttons
  • TITLE: Displays title information.
  • AUDIO: Selects audio language.
  • SETUP: Enters or exits the setup menu.
  • ◄◄ / ►►: Navigates to previous/next chapter or scene.
  • ◄◄◄ / ►►►: Fast forward/backward at 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, or 32x speed.
  • OSD: Displays disc information (elapsed/remaining time).
  • ▶️ / ⏸️ (Play/Pause): Starts or pauses playback.
  • ■ (STOP): Stops playback. Press ▶️/⏸️ to resume from the stopped point. Press ■ twice to stop playback completely.
  • ENTER: Confirms selection.
  • ZOOM: Zooms in on the image.
  • MENU: Enters or exits the menu root.
  • SUBTITLE: Selects subtitle language.
  • ANGLE: Changes viewing angle for multi-angle discs.
  • A-B: Repeats a specific portion from point A to B. Press again to cancel.
  • REPEAT: Repeats playing title, chapter, or track.
  • RETURN: Returns to the main menu.
  • MUTE: Mutes audio.
  • SLOW: Slow playback.
  • MODE: Changes playback mode.

The Use Of Remote Control

Insert a CR2025 battery into the remote control as shown in the illustration.

Ensure the infrared window of the remote control is pointed towards the unit's infrared receiving window. Maintain a distance of within 3 meters.

Notice:

  • Avoid dropping or placing the remote near damp environments.
  • Avoid direct sunlight on the infrared receiving window of the unit.
  • Use a new battery if the remote control is not working.

Basic Operation

Playing discs (DVD, MPEG4, SVCD, VCD, CD, MP3):

  1. In Source Mode, use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) to select the desired source (DVD, SD, USB) and press ENTER.
  2. Open the disc door and insert a disc with the label side facing up.
  3. Close the disc door. The unit will load and start playing the disc.
  4. Press ■ once to stop playback. Press ▶️/⏸️ to resume from the stopped point. Press ■ twice to stop playback completely.
  5. During playback, press ▶️/⏸️ to pause; press again to resume.
  6. When playback finishes, turn off the power using the ON/OFF switch.
  7. For DVD discs with Title or Chapter menus, press MENU to enter the menu page, use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) to select, and press ENTER to confirm.

Note: Do not disconnect USB devices or remove SD/MMC cards while they are in use, as this may cause functional failure.

Fast Forward And Fast Backward

When playing DVD, MPEG4, SVCD, VCD, CD, or CD discs, the unit can search forward or backward.

  1. Press ►► to search forward. Repeatedly pressing it cycles through speeds of 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, and 32x.
  2. Press ◄◄ to search backward. Repeatedly pressing it cycles through speeds of 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, and 32x.

Repeat Playing

For DVD, MPEG4, SVCD, VCD, CD discs, users can repeat playing a chapter, title, or the entire disc.

For DVD discs, press the 'repeat' button to repeat a Chapter. Pressing it again repeats the Title, and a third press repeats the whole disc. Pressing again turns repeat off.

For MP3 discs, press 'repeat' to repeat the current file. Pressing again repeats the folder. A third press cancels repeat playback.

Repeat Playing Of Favorite Scene

For DVD, MPEG4, SVCD, VCD, CD, MP3 discs, users can repeatedly play a specific section.

During playback, press the 'A-B' button at point A. Then, press it again at point B. The unit will automatically repeat playing the segment between A and B.

Pressing the button a third time returns to normal playback.

Select Angle

When playing a DVD disc with multiple angles, press the 'Angle' button. The screen will display available angles (e.g., 1/4, 2/4). Press the number buttons to select the desired angle.

To return to normal playback, press the 'Angle' button again; the unit will play the disc in the default angle.

Note: This function is only available for discs with multi-angle content.

Zoom in/out

For JPEG discs, users can zoom in or out.

During playback, press the Zoom button to enlarge the image. Pressing it again enlarges it further. Pressing it a fifth time zooms out. Repeatedly pressing it returns the image to normal status.

For DVD and VCD discs, users can zoom in/out.

During playback, press the Zoom button to enlarge the image. Pressing it again enlarges it further. Pressing it a fourth time zooms out. Repeatedly pressing it returns the image to normal status.

When the image is enlarged, use the navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) to move the image.

Playing JPEG File In Data Disc

  1. Insert a JPEG disc into the tray. The unit will start reading and playing.
  2. Press MENU to browse JPEG files.
  3. Use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) to select a JPEG file and press ENTER to confirm. Press MENU to return to the folder list. Press ◄◄ or ENTER to preview the selected file.
  4. Use ◄◄ to rotate the picture counter-clockwise, ►► to rotate clockwise. Use ◄◄ to reverse the picture horizontally and ►► to reverse it vertically.
  5. Press the OSD button when viewing pictures to select different refresh modes:
    • 1: from top to bottom
    • 2: from bottom to top
    • 3: from left side to right side
    • 4: from right side to left side
    • 5: from left top to right bottom
    • 6: from right top to left bottom
    • 7: from left bottom to right top
    • 8: from right bottom to left top
    • 9: from horizontal center to both sides
    • 10: from vertical center to both sides
    • 11: From top and bottom to center.
    • 12: from right and left to center.
    • 13: from four window's top side to bottom side.
    • 14: from four window's left side to right side.
    • 15: From 4 edges to center.
  6. During file viewing, certain options like 'Angle', 'Subtitle', 'Audio', 'A-B', or 'Title' may display a symbol [symbol description] and be unavailable.
  7. When viewing JPEG files, press ■ or RETURN to display pictures in thumbnail mode. Then press ◄◄ or ENTER to select one picture to view.

Note: To return to the Main Menu, press the RETURN key while in thumbnail mode.

Playing MP3 Files In Data Disc

  1. Insert an MP3 disc into the disc door. Use ◄◄ or ENTER to choose an MP3 file. Press ▶️/⏸️ or ENTER to play the selected file.

SD/MMC/USB Main Menu

After accessing SD/MMC or USB, the system displays the Main Menu with 4 Function ICONS: Browser Mode, Photo Mode, Music Mode, and Movie Mode. Select an icon using navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) and press ENTER to confirm.

Note: Media cards formatted in exFAT file system are not supported.

Browser Mode

In Browser Mode, the system displays a list of files and folders. Use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) to select and play files. Use ►► to enter a folder. Use ◄◄ to quit the current folder.

Note: To return to the Main Menu, ensure the system is in the file and folder list status, then press the RETURN key.

Photo Mode

In Photo Mode, the system displays thumbnails first. Use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) and ENTER to select and play. 'Slide Show' plays the JPEG files. 'Menu' enters the Help Menu. 'Prev' goes to the previous page, and 'Next' goes to the next page.

Music Mode

In Music Mode, the system displays a list of music files (e.g., MP3). Use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) and ENTER to select and play. Use ◄◄ or ►► for fast forward/backward playback. Use ◄◄ or ►► to select bottom functions when in 'stop' status. 'Page-' moves to the previous page, and 'Page+' moves to the next page. Press ▶️ for Play.

Note: Press the RETURN key to return to the Main Menu.

Movie Mode

In Movie Mode, the system displays a list of movie files (e.g., AVI). Use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) and ENTER to select and play.

When playing a movie, press MENU and RETURN to go back to the movie file list. To return to the Main Menu, press RETURN from the movie file list.

CD Ripping

During playback of a CD/HDCD disc, you can enter the CD Ripping function. By pressing the subtitle button, the DVD player can change the CD format to MP3 and store it on a USB drive.

Options include setting Speed (Normal or Fast) and Bitrate (6 choices: 96 Kbps, 112 Kbps, 128 Kbps, 196 Kbps, 256 Kbps, 320 Kbps). Create ID3 tags and select the Device (USB).

Exit returns to the previous menu. Select all selects all files for changing and storing. Select none removes all files.

Start: Move the cursor to the item and press Enter to begin the process. You can select CANCEL to stop the process.

System Setup

Press the 'Setup' button to display the main menu. In the General Setup page, use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) to highlight an item. Press ENTER to access. Use navigation buttons (◄◄, ►►) to select settings. Press ENTER to confirm. Press ◄◄ to exit.

General Setup Page

TV Display: Set screen display format (Nomal/PS, Nomal/LB, Wide). Default is 'Wide'. Note: This depends on the disc's aspect ratio. Choose 'Wide(16:9)' for widescreen TVs.

Angle Mark: Set the angle during playback. Optional settings: ON, OFF. Default is ON.

OSD Language: Set the On-Screen Display menu language (English, French, German, Italian). Default is English.

Screen Saver: Activate the screen saver function. Default is ON.

Video Setup Page

TV Type: Select TV type (PAL, NTSC). Default is NTSC.

Quality: Set the Video Quality of AV OUT.

Panel Quality: Set the Video Quality of PANEL.

Preference Page

Audio: Select preferred audio language for DVDs. Default is English. Note: Audio language depends on the disc content. It can also be changed during playback using the Audio button.

Subtitle: Select preferred language for subtitles. Default is OFF. Subtitle languages depend on disc information. It can also be changed during playback using the SUBTITLE button.

Disc Menu: Choose the menu language stored on the disc. Default is English. Note: Disc menu languages depend on the disc's information.

Parental: Set parental control level for unsuitable scenes. Optional levels: KID SAFE, G, PG, PG 13, PGR, R, NC17, ADULT. Default is ADULT. Default password: 8888.

Default: Select this item and press ENTER to reset settings.

Troubleshooting

PROBLEMSOLUTION
No sound or distorted soundMake sure the machine is connected properly. Make sure all cables are securely inserted into the appropriate jacks.
Can't advance through a movieYou can't advance through the opening credits and warning information that appears at the beginning of movies because the disc is programmed to prohibit that action.
The icon [symbol description] appears on screenThe feature or action cannot be completed at this time because: 1. The disc's software restricts it. 2. The disc's software doesn't support the feature (e.g., angles). 3. The feature is not available at the moment. 4. You've requested a title or chapter number that is out of range.
Picture is distortedThe disc might be damaged. Try another disc; It is normal for some distortion to appear during forward or reverse scan.
No forward or reverse scanSome discs have sections that prohibit rapid scanning or chapter skip; If you try to skip through the warning information and credits at the beginning of a movie, you won't be able to. This part of the movie is often programmed to prohibit skipping through it.
