Stäubli MA420 CT-CP Crimping Pliers
These operating instructions provide detailed guidance for the Stäubli MA420 crimping pliers, model CT-CP.
Safety Instructions

Caution, Risk of Electric Shock: Always work in a de-energized state. Follow the five safety rules for electrical installations: 1. Disconnect completely. 2. Secure against re-connection. 3. Verify absence of operating voltage. 4. Carry out grounding and short-circuiting. 5. Provide protection against adjacent live parts. All personnel involved must be electrically skilled, instructed, or supervised by such a person. Protection against electric shock must also be checked in the end-use applications.
Caution: Before each use, inspect the connector for external defects, especially the insulation. If there are any safety concerns, consult an electrically skilled person or replace the connector.

Features Overview
The hand tool primarily consists of the crimp head with a crimp die, two locking bolts for the crimp head, a movable handle, and a locking mechanism.

The crimping pliers (CT-CP) feature a crimp head, handles, a fast feed lever, pins, a release lever, and upper and lower crimping dies. The crimping die set (8) is also shown.

Change of Crimping Die Set
Follow these steps to change the crimping die set:
- Open the tool.
- Loosen the pins of the basic tool and extract them until they stop.
- Remove the adapter.
- Insert the lower crimping die until it is locked.
- Insert the upper crimping die until it is locked.
- Place the adapter onto the basic tool and lock the pins.
- Ensure the crimping die set is correctly mounted.

Crimping Procedure
- Open the tool.
- Insert the contact into the center of the respective crimping zone.
- Operate the fast feed lever anticlockwise until the contact is held. Alternatively, press the handles to secure the contact.
- Insert the cable into the die.
- Open and close the tool completely until the lower crimping die is in the basic position.

Note: Ensure the tool is operated correctly to achieve a proper crimp.
Premature Release
There are two versions for premature release:
Version 1: Manual Release with Fast Feed Lever
- Press and hold the release lever down.
- Operate the fast feed lever clockwise until the lower crimping die is in the basic position.

Version 2: Release with a Wrench
Use a wrench if manual release is not possible.
- Close the handles slightly until the release lever can be pressed down out of the teeth structure.
- Keep the release lever pressed, apply the wrench, and move the nut anticlockwise until the lower crimping die is in the basic position.

Attention: Do not use a crimped wire if a premature release occurred. Incorrectly crimped wires must be discarded and not used.
