How to Install the Unit
- Ensure the unit is installed securely and firmly to prevent vibration and noise.
- Install the unit away from direct sunlight.
- The outside of the cabinet must extend outward at least 12 inches, with no obstacles within 20 inches from the back to ensure proper heat radiation. Restriction of outside air will reduce cooling efficiency.
- Install the unit with a slight tilt towards the outside (about 1/2 inch lower at the back) to allow condensed water to flow out.
- Mount the unit with the bottom between 30 and 60 inches above the floor level.
CAUTION: All side louvers of the cabinet must remain exposed to the outside of the structure.
Window Requirements
NOTICE: All supporting parts should be secured to firm wood, masonry, or metal.
- This unit is designed for standard double-hung windows with opening widths from 27 to 39 inches.
- The top and bottom window sashes must open sufficiently to allow a clear vertical opening of 16 inches from the bottom of the upper sash to the window stool.
Preparation of Chassis
- Remove the 4 screws fastening the cabinet at the sides and back. Keep these screws for later use.
- Slide the unit out of the cabinet by gripping the base pan handle and pulling forward while bracing the cabinet.
- Cut the window sash seals to the proper length. Peel off the backing and attach the Foam-PE (adhesive-backed) to the underside of the window sash and the bottom of the window frame.
- Insert the frame guides into the bottom of the cabinet.
- Insert the frame curtain into the upper guide and frame guides.
- Fasten the curtains to the unit using 8 Type A screws.
Cabinet Installation
- Open the window. Mark a center line on the window stool.
- Carefully place the cabinet on the window stool, aligning the center hole on the bottom front with the marked center line.
- Pull the bottom window sash down behind the upper guide until it meets.
NOTICE: Do not pull the window sash down so tightly that the movement of the frame curtain is restricted.
- Loosely assemble the sill support.
- Select a position for the Sill Support near the outermost point on the sill.
NOTICE: Be careful when installing the cabinet, as frame guides can break easily.
- Attach the sill support to the cabinet track hole using 2 Type A screws per support, in relation to the selected position.
- Ensure the cabinet is installed with a slight tilt downward toward the outside (about 1/2 degree).
- Adjust the bolt and nut of the sill support to balance the cabinet.
- Attach the cabinet to the window stool by driving Type B screws through the front angle into the window stool.
- Pull each frame curtain fully to its respective window sash track.
- Attach each frame curtain to the window sash using Type C screws.
CAUTION: Do not drill a hole in the bottom pan. The unit is designed to operate with approximately 1/2 inch of water in the bottom pan. There is no need to add water if the pan is dry.
- Slide the unit into the cabinet.
CAUTION: For security purposes, reinstall the screws (removed from the cabinet) at the cabinet's sides. See page 12.
- Cut the Foam-Strip (not adhesive backed) to the proper length and insert it between the upper and lower window sashes.
- Attach the window locking bracket with a Type C screw.
- Before installing the front grille, pull out the vent control lever located above the unit control knobs.
- Cut the adhesive-backed Foam-Heatproofs to the Guide Panel size. Remove the backing and attach the Foam-Heatproofs to the Guide Panel. Foam-Heatproof improves the cooling capability of the unit.
- Attach the front grille to the cabinet by inserting the tabs on the grille into the slots on the front of the cabinet. Push the grille in until it snaps into place. Guide the lever carefully through the grille as you push it in.
- Remove the air filter and secure it with 2 Type A screws through the front grille. These screws are packaged separately.
Window installation of the room air conditioner is now completed. Refer to ELECTRICAL DATA for attaching the power cord to the electrical outlet.
