ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: Phillips head screwdriver, drill with 5/16-in drill bit, hacksaw, funnel, 40-lbs of filter sand, lubricant, rubber mallet or a hammer with a small block of wood, a fine tip marker, and mounting kits.
Assembling the Outer Half of the Ladder
- With the treads facing up, place the bottom step on a level surface.
- Stand each leg upright with the pointed side down. Ensure the raised areas on the legs are facing inward. The raised area with the pre-drilled hole should be at the front of the ladder toward the top of each leg.
- Push each leg into the indentation on the bottom step until they click into place.
- Each step will be installed on the upper set of pre-marked screw locations only.
- Slide one of the steps onto the legs, just above the bottom step, ensuring it clicks into the upper set of pre-marked screw locations.
- Secure each step by drilling one 1.25-in screw into both sides of the step through the pre-marked locations on the legs.
Attaching the Step Connectors
- Check the top of both step connectors for raised left and right markings. They are not interchangeable.
- Align the rounded top of the left step connector with the pre-drilled hole at the top of the left leg.
- Place a washer on a bolt. From the inside of the ladder, insert the bolt through the leg and step connector. Insert a second washer on the end of the bolt and attach the nut. Do not over-tighten.
- Repeat the directions above for the right step connector.
- Attach the step connectors to the steps by drilling a 1.25-in screw through each of the pre-marked openings on the step connectors.
- Once completed, repeat steps 1-6 for the other side of the ladder.
Anti-Entrapment Barrier Assembly
NOTE: This is the side of the ladder without the flip-up steps.
- Place the lower base on a level surface. Position the small and large barriers so their straight sides face each other. The angled side of the large barrier should face the rounded edge of the base, and the angled side of the small barrier should face the straight edge of the base.
- Push both barriers into the groove on the lower base until they click into place.
- Slide the upper brace over the small barrier. Use the groove in the large barrier to allow the brace to slide into the opening of the large barrier. Push the brace down lightly to secure both barriers together.
- Align the notch on the straight edge of the lower base with the inside portion of the bottom step. Attach by drilling two 1.25-in screws through the base into the step.
- Align the notch on the straight edge of the entrapment barrier brace with the inside portion of the fourth step from the bottom. Attach by drilling two 1.25-in screws through the brace into the step.
Modifying the Ladder Height
NOTE: For 54-in deep pools, no modifications are necessary.
ONLY FOLLOW THIS STEP IF YOUR POOL DEPTH IS 52-IN:
- On one of the handrail assemblies, locate the lower of the two lines on each end. Using a hacksaw, cut each end evenly. Repeat for the other handrail assembly.
ONLY FOLLOW THIS STEP IF YOUR POOL DEPTH IS 48-IN:
- On one of the handrail assemblies, locate the higher of the two lines on each end. Using a hacksaw, cut each end evenly. Repeat for the other handrail assembly.
- Locate the lines toward the top of each of the four legs. Using a hacksaw, cut all four legs evenly.
Adding Weight to the Ladder
- Using a funnel, fill both legs with filter sand. Each leg requires approximately 20-lbs of sand.
NOTE: Blue Wave strongly recommends using filter sand. Regular play sand is coarse and may cause issues with the pool's filter system.
Attaching the Platform and Handrails
- Lay one handrail assembly down on a level surface. With the treads facing the top of the handrail, push the dowels of the platform into the openings on the handrail assembly until they click into place.
- To secure the platform to the handrail assembly, center a locking cap over the ends of the dowels on the outside of the handrail assembly. Using a rubber mallet or a hammer with a small block of wood, tap on each cap until it is flush with the handrail assembly.
- To finish assembling the ladder, slide the handrail assemblies onto the legs. Lubricant may be needed. Drill through the pre-marked locations on the legs and secure the handrail assemblies to the legs using four 1.25-in screws.
Positioning and Securing the Ladder
- Place the entrapment barrier side of the ladder in the pool in the desired location.
- Once the ladder is in the pool, tip it back-and-forth and side-to-side to release any trapped air.
NOTE: This pool ladder must be secured to the pool frame. Failure to properly secure the ladder voids the warranty.
- Avoiding the pool wall, position the two openings in the platform over the top rail. Mark the location of the holes with a fine tip marker. Move the ladder over, and using a 5/16-in drill bit, drill two holes in the top rail of the pool.
- Reposition the ladder and align the two openings in the platform with the two holes in the top rail. Secure the ladder to the top rail using the appropriate mounting kit.
- For pools with a 48-in depth, use the mounting kit with (2) 5-in bolts.
- For pools with a 52-in or 54-in depth, use the mounting kit with (2) 2 1/2-in bolts.
- Reposition the ladder and align the two openings in the platform with the two holes in the top rail. Secure the ladder to the pool using the included mounting kit.
NOTE: It is recommended to install a ladder pad underneath the bottom step to protect the liner. Ladder pad sold separately.
Winterizing
- If winterizing the pool is required, this ladder must be removed. Failure to do so can cause the ladder to crack.
- Prior to storing the ladder, rinse off any chemical residue.
- When storing the ladder, it should be protected from the elements.
