Towbar Assembly Diagram Description
The diagram illustrates the Tow-Trust TM7 towbar assembly. The main component is the central Crossmember (A). Attached to either side of the Crossmember are the Left-Hand Side Arm (B) and the Right-Hand Side Arm (C). An Extension Bar (D) is designed to connect to the Crossmember, and a Push Up Socket Plate (E) mounts onto the Extension Bar. Various fasteners are shown, including bolts (F, G, H, J, K) and flat washers (L, M), along with a specific Rubber Washer. The diagram indicates vehicle-specific mounting points: for Standard C-Class, use holes 1 & 3; for AMG Bodykit, use holes 2 & 4. It visually depicts the connection of side arms to the chassis, the crossmember to the side arms, and the extension bar and socket plate assembly.
Fitting Instructions
- Remove boot trim, three push in fixings and plastic hooks each side, lift boot floor to reveal four more fixings.
- Unclip panel to free carpet to gain access to rear light clusters.
- Remove the four nuts securing each light cluster, unclip electrical plug and remove each light cluster.
- Remove rear bumper. Four fixings around each wheel arch, two fixings securing plastic trim to rear panel, two fixings around heat shield, two fixings along lower edge and fixings through access holes in rear panel below rear light housing. Pull bumper outwards at each tip and then rearwards, at this point disconnect reversing sensors (if fitted).
- Remove the four fixings each side securing the bumper beam to the rear panel. (This is not refitted with the towbar.)
- Cut slots in each foam seal to allow Item B and Item C to be located into each chassis.
- Remove the two existing rubber caps each side from the inner face of each chassis. Using Item J with Item L loosely bolt Item B and Item C to the existing holes.
- Using Item H with Item L bolt Item A to Item B and Item C and through the rear panel.
- Fully tighten Item H then Item J and ensure the towbar is rigid and secure.
- Using Item K bolt Item E to Item A. Note: If this method of mounting the electrical socket is used then the bumper will have to be trimmed to suit.
- Refit rear bumper, trim and light clusters. NOTE: SOME C-Class BUMPERS REQUIRE A 70mm DEEP X 60mm WIDE BUMPER. E-Class Coupe (Cabrio) Sport 2013> Rear bumper with fins will require a 40mm DEEP BUMPER CUT.
- Using Item G with Item M bolt Item D to Item A.
- Using Item F bolt the ball bracket (not supplied in this kit) to the mounting plate.
Additional Notes
- Recommended Torque Setting for M12 Grade 10.9: 139 Nm. (For other Torque Settings see notes overleaf.)
- Nose load limits and vehicle manufacturers trailer / caravan weight limits must be observed.
