Your comprehensive guide to operating and maintaining your SANYO DC-F210 Mini Component System.
General Safety:
Laser Safety (Applicable to CD Player):
⚠ CAUTION: INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION WHEN OPEN AND INTERLOCKS DEFEATED. AVOID EXPOSURE TO BEAM.
This product contains a low power laser device. To ensure continued safety, do not remove any covers or attempt to gain access to the inside of the product. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified in the operating instructions may result in hazardous radiation exposure. The compact disc player should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone except properly qualified personnel.
Remove the shipping screw from the rear of the unit. This screw secures the CD mechanism during shipment and should be retained for future use. Reinstall it before transportation.
For UK Users:
Important Note: Do not connect the mains lead to an AC outlet until all other connections have been made. When first connected, the display enters demonstration mode; turn power on to cancel.
Connect the left speaker lead connector to the 'L' SPEAKERS socket and the right speaker lead connector to the 'R' socket. If insertion is difficult, try turning the connector over.
AM Loop Aerial: Assemble the loop aerial by unwinding the wires and connecting them to the AM LOOP ANT. terminals. Position the aerial for best AM (MW/LW) reception, or attach it to a wall or other surface. To minimize noise, keep aerial leads away from speakers, mains, and other leads.
FM Aerial (For UK/AU): The FM indoor aerial is sufficient for most local FM broadcasts. Connect it to the FM 75 ohm terminal. Extend the aerial wire as straight as possible and secure it for minimal distortion and noise. In fringe areas or where reception is poor, connect an external FM aerial (not supplied) that accepts 75-ohm coaxial cable. Consult your dealer.
Connect audio leads (not supplied) from the audio output sockets of video equipment to the VIDEO IN sockets.
Connect stereo headphones (not supplied) to the PHONES socket for monitoring or private listening. Speakers are automatically disconnected when headphones are connected.
System Power State: The system is not completely disconnected from the mains when the ⑁/ON button on the remote control is set to the ⑁ (standby) position.
Deck B (Left):
Deck A (Right):
These buttons select track numbers on a disc or preset radio stations. If the function is "CD", they select track numbers. If "TUNER", they select preset radio stations. For other functions, they do not work. Two buttons must always be pressed for numbers greater than 9 (e.g., 0 then 3 for No. 3, 1 then 0 for No. 10, 2 then 5 for No. 25).
The remote control uses two R6 (HP 7)/AA/SUM-3 batteries (not supplied). Insert them correctly, observing polarity. Always remove batteries if the remote control will not be used for a month or more to prevent leakage and damage.
The remote control operates within approximately 7 meters, with a 30-degree angle of operation from the remote sensor on the main unit. The buttons on the remote control perform similar functions to similarly marked buttons on the front panel.
Using the Remote Control (Example: Setting 6:30 AM):
The time can be set accurately by pressing ADJUST when a time signal is heard. These operations can be done even in standby. To display the clock during operation, press CLOCK. Press again to return to original display. If the display blinks due to power failure, reset the time.
For UK: Changing to 12-hour Display:
Repeat steps to return to original setting.
Press the STANDBY/ON button. Indicators and displays light, and the STANDBY indicator goes out. (First time connection: volume resets to initial level). To turn off, press STANDBY/ON again. The STANDBY indicator lights, and clock display remains lit. When mains lead is connected, STANDBY indicator lights and unit responds to remote commands.
If the following buttons are pressed when the unit is in standby, it turns on automatically and sets the selected function:
Press the FUNCTION button to select the desired function. The display changes as follows: CD → TAPE → TUNE → VIDEO → CD. Function is automatically selected when CD play starts or TUNER/BAND is pressed (except during recording/tape dubbing). CD play stops when function changes.
Press the − or √ VOLUME button on the unit, or + or - VOLUME on the remote control. Volume level (VOL 0-10) appears on display.
Press the MUTE button on the remote control. "MUTE" blinks. To restore, press MUTE again; "MUTE" disappears.
SRS® (Sound Retrieval System) replaces stereo as the method of accurately reproducing sound and is rapidly becoming the standard for 3-D audio technology. It creates a three-dimensional sound image from any audio source with only two conventional stereo speakers. Whether the signal is stereo or surround sound encoded, SRS® expands the material and immerses the listener in three-dimensional sound.
SRS® differs from stereo and traditional sound expansion techniques because it is based on the human hearing system. It retrieves spatial information from recordings and restores the original three-dimensional sound field. As a result, the reproduced sound is much closer to a live performance. Like live performances, SRS® has no critical listening position (sweet spot). Listeners can move around the room and continue to be immersed in full three-dimensional sound.
● Stereo Sound: Depicted as two speakers with sound waves emanating directly forward.
● SRS Sound: Depicted as two speakers with sound waves emanating outwards in a wider, more encompassing pattern, indicating a broader soundstage.
SRS, the SRS symbol "®" and "Sound Retrieval System" are registered trademarks of SRS Labs, Inc. in the U.S. and selected countries. SRS (Sound Retrieval System) technology is manufactured under license from SRS Labs, Inc. and protected by USA patents 4,748,669 and 4,841,572 and additional patents worldwide.
To Activate SRS®: Press the SRS SOUND button. The SRS SOUND indicator lights. SRS will not activate with monaural sources.
This system can play compact discs bearing the "COMPACT disc DIGITAL AUDIO" symbol, including conventional 12 cm CDs and 8 cm CDs without an adapter.
Notes on CD Handling:
If discs are loaded, you can turn the unit on and begin play immediately by pressing the ▶/██, DISC 1, DISC 2 or DISC 3 button.
Note: If the disc is loaded label-down or is badly scratched, "NO DISC" appears. Correctly load or replace the disc.
When the last track of the last disc has been played, the player stops automatically. When OPEN/CLOSE is pressed during play, play stops and the disc tray slides out.
Using the Remote Control:
Using the Main Unit:
Press the ▶/██ button. "██" blinks. To resume, press ▶/██ again.
To skip to track 6 while track 3 is playing, press ▶▶/▶ repeatedly until "6" appears in TR on the display. To skip back to track 3 while track 6 is playing, press ◀◀/◀ repeatedly until "3" appears. Number buttons on the remote control can also be used (e.g., 0 then 6 to skip to track 6).
If ◀◀/◀ or ▶▶/▶ is pressed during play, the player searches at high speed. Normal play resumes when the button is released.
Press the RANDOM button on the remote control to begin random play. The player automatically selects and plays discs and tracks at random. "RANDOM" appears on the display. Random play will not function during programmed play.
Press the REPEAT button on the remote control repeatedly to select the desired repeat mode:
During programmed play, "REPEAT CONT" cannot be selected.
While playing one disc, press one of the disc select buttons to skip to another disc. "CH DISC" blinks for a few seconds, then the selected disc moves into playing position. Play starts automatically from the first track on the disc.
Up to 32 selections, from up to 3 discs, can be programmed for play in any order. To begin, select "CD" function first. Discs or tracks must be programmed in stop mode. The same disc or track can be programmed more than once.
Example: Program tracks 6 and 2 on DISC 1 and all tracks on DISC 3 (assuming DISC 3 is playing, each disc has 9 tracks).
When all programmed selections have played, the player stops automatically. "0 0.00" appears. Programme contents are retained in memory.
Each time MEMORY is pressed in stop mode, programmed details sequentially appear on the display.
To Add a New Selection:
To Change a Selection:
Programmed details cannot be partially deleted or inserted.
If the unit's operation or display is abnormal:
If the unit does not operate correctly, contact your nearest SANYO Authorized Service Centre.
Deck A is for playback only; Deck B is for both playback and recording.
Notes:
Press the PAUSE button to temporarily stop playback or recording. Press it again to resume operation.
Press the F FWD or REW button. The deck stops automatically when the tape is wound to the end. While playing or recording, do not press F FWD or REW on the other deck, as sound quality may deteriorate.
When the tape automatically stops on Deck A, Deck B playback begins. Automatic stop activates when the tape end is reached on Deck B.
To turn the unit on and listen to the last received station, press the TUNER/BAND button.
For UK: Up to 24 FM, 12 MW, 4 LW stations. For AU: Up to 24 FM, 12 AM stations.
If APT is activated, all previously programmed stations of the band will be cleared and new stations will be programmed.
Example: "103.25 MHz" FM station is preset on FM channel number 9. The number buttons on the remote control can be used to select the preset station (e.g., 0 then 9 after step 2). If the next step is not taken within 10 seconds, "PROG." disappears and preset operation is cancelled. Press MEMORY to continue. Repeat steps to add more preset stations. When presetting a new station, the previously preset station on the same channel number of the same band is cleared. Preset stations are retained in memory even if the unit is turned off. If memory contents are lost due to power failure, preset stations again.
To receive an FM stereo broadcast, ensure "MONO" is not displayed. If "MONO" appears, press FM MODE to turn it off. "ST" appears when an FM stereo broadcast is received. If the signal from an FM station is weak, press FM MODE to change to monaural reception ("ST" is replaced by "MONO").
This procedure is not necessary in Europe, Australia, or New Zealand.
Recording Copyright Material: Recording copyright material without permission is usually an infringement. SANYO does not approve of, and cannot be held responsible for, any unlawful use of this machine. Use deck B for recording.
Accidental erasure can be prevented by breaking out the tabs on the end of the cassette tape (where the tape is not exposed) using a screwdriver or similar implement. (Diagram shows a cassette tape with tabs for Side A and Side B.) If a tab is broken out in error and you wish to re-record, block the tab hole using adhesive tape.
A high-pitched noise called "beat" may be heard during radio broadcasts. If this occurs:
Do not change the dubbing speed during the dubbing operation.
Set on and off times, function, and volume. Operation starts with selected function at on time, gradually increasing volume (fade-in). Power switches off at off time. The on/off timer functions daily unless released.
Ensure the clock is set to the correct time. Select the function for timer operation and prepare sources (e.g., tune radio, adjust volume).
"TIMER" blinks during a timer controlled operation. To switch off power during a timer controlled operation, press ⑁/ON. The timer will be set in standby mode.
Press TIMER repeatedly. Settings display in order: On time, Off time, Function, Original display. To change settings, press TIMER to select, then ADJUST to make display blink. Change as explained above.
After turning power on, press TIMER, then SET/CLEAR.
If SET/CLEAR is pressed while timer is being set, original display returns. Timer mode is released if power failure occurs during timer controlled operation. Timer may not operate if power failure occurs during timer operation standby mode.
The sleep timer automatically switches off power after a preset time (fade-out volume reduction in last minute). 12 time periods available: 120, 110, 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, and 10 minutes.
Press SLEEP repeatedly to select desired sleep time. "SLEEP" and selected time blink. After several seconds, original display returns. "SLEEP" blinks.
Press SLEEP. Remaining time displays. After several seconds, original display returns.
Press SLEEP, then SET/CLEAR. The timer is also released if power is switched off.
To ensure good-quality sound, clean the heads, pinch rollers, and capstans of the decks with a cotton swab every 10 hours of use. If dirt persists, soak the swab in methylated spirit or head cleaning fluid and then clean.
Use a soft cloth to remove dirt. If dirt persists, dip a soft cloth into a diluted solution of neutral detergent, wring it out, wipe away dirt, and then dry with a dry cloth. Do not use benzene, thinners, or alcohol as they will mar the finish.
