THERMOSTAT INSTALLATION
WIRING
Refer to the equipment manufacturer's instructions for specific system wiring information. After wiring, refer to the INSTALLER MENU section to properly configure the thermostat. The wiring diagrams shown are for typical systems and describe the function of the thermostat terminals.
Terminal Designation | Terminal Function |
R | Power (24 V) |
O/B | Changeover terminal; energizes in Cool (O) or Heat (B) mode for heat pump or systems with dampers |
Y | 1st stage compressor, heating and cooling |
G | Fan relay |
E* | Auxiliary heat only (emergency heat) |
C | 24 V common wire (optional with batteries) |
L | Heat pump diagnostic/fault terminal (input requires common wire) |
W2* | 2nd stage heat |
*Cut W2/E jumper if separate W2 and E heat sources are used.
IMPORTANT: For dual fuel applications, ensure the Dual Fuel Program option is activated (see Installer Menu).
Precautions:
- Do not exceed electrical ratings.
- All wiring must comply with local and national electrical codes and ordinances.
- This controller is a precision instrument and must be handled carefully. Rough handling or deformation of components can cause controller failure.
WARNING: Do not use this device on circuits exceeding the rated voltage. Higher voltage will damage the control and could cause electrical shock or fire hazard. Do not short circuit terminals on the gas valve or main control. Shorting or incorrect wiring will burn out the thermostat and could cause injury or property damage.
CAUTION: To prevent electrical shock and equipment damage, turn off power to the system at the main circuit breaker box until installation is complete.
Thermostat Leveling: Thermostat leveling is for aesthetic purposes only and does not affect its operation.
Battery Location: Quality AA batteries are required when a common wire is not available. When available, batteries provide an auxiliary power source (which will keep the time active during a power outage).
W2/E Jumper
This thermostat electrically connects the W2 and E terminals so that jumpering is not necessary with a jumper. If your system has separate W2 and E wires, cut the W2/E jumper located on the back of the thermostat. This will isolate the two terminals so they can be used independently.
O/B Terminal Selector
The O/B selector on this thermostat is factory set to the O position. This will suit the majority of heat pump applications, which require the changeover relay to be energized in the Cool mode. If the installed heat pump requires a B terminal to energize the changeover relay in the Heat mode, the O/B selector must be set to the B position.
INSTALLER MENU
To prevent changes that could affect system performance, this thermostat has an INSTALLER MENU and a USER MENU. The INSTALLER MENU provides access to all options, while the USER MENU provides access to settings that will not affect system performance. To access the INSTALLER MENU, press the Menu button for 8 seconds. The display will show item 30 from the table below. Use Next to advance through menu items. TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
Heating, Cooling, or Fan Not Operating (Common Problem) | 1.) Blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. 2.) Furnace on/off switch in OFF position. 3.) Furnace fan compartment door or panel loose or improperly installed. 4.) Loose connection at thermostat or system. |
1.) Replace fuse or reset circuit breaker. 2.) Place switch in ON position. 3.) Replace door or panel to engage safety interlock or door switch. 4.) Tighten connections. |
Heating Not Operating | 1.) System switch not set to Heat. 2.) Loose connection at thermostat or system. 3.) Heating equipment service or thermostat replacement required. |
Check that thermostat and system wires are tight. Diagnostic: Set system switch to Heat and raise setpoint above room temperature. Thermostat should click within five minutes and "Heat On" should appear on display. This click indicates the thermostat is functioning properly. If thermostat does not click, perform the reset procedure after this table. If thermostat still does not click after reset, contact a heating or air conditioning specialist or the store where you purchased the thermostat for replacement. If thermostat clicks, contact the furnace manufacturer or a technician to check if heating is operating properly. |
No Cooling | 1.) System switch not set to Cool. 2.) Loose connection at thermostat or system. 3.) Air conditioning equipment service or thermostat replacement required. |
Check that thermostat and system wires are tight. Diagnostic: Set system switch to Cool and lower setpoint below room temperature. Same as heating no-heat diagnostic except thermostat should be set to Cool and setpoint should be below room temperature. There may be a five-minute delay before the thermostat clicks in Cool mode if the compressor lockout option is selected in the installer menu. (See Installer Menu, item 50.) |
Heating, Cooling, or Fan Never Stops | Possible short circuit in wiring, thermostat, or heating/cooling/fan system. | Check all wiring connections to ensure they are not shorted or touching other wires. Reset the thermostat. If problem persists, contact your HVAC technician. |
Setpoint and Thermometer Do Not Agree | Thermostat thermometer needs adjustment. | Thermometer can be adjusted +/- 5°. See User Menu, item 04. |
TROUBLESHOOTING (cont.)
Problem | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
Heating (or Air Conditioner) Cycling Too Fast or Too Slow (Temperature Swings Too Wide or Too Narrow) | Thermostat location and heating system size can affect cycle length. | Digital thermostats provide precise control and faster cycling than older mechanical models. The system turns on and off more frequently but runs for shorter periods. To increase cycle length, select SLO, for slow cycle, in the installer menu. (See menu items 30 and 35.) If acceptable cycle length cannot be achieved, contact your local HVAC technician for further suggestions. |
"Call for Service" Icon Appears | 1.) Heating system unable to heat space within 10 degrees of setpoint within 2 hours. 2.) Cooling system unable to cool space within 10 degrees of setpoint within 2 hours. 3.) If "-" is displayed instead of room temperature, the thermostat needs replacement. 4.) None of the buttons on the thermostat operate. 5.) If "Call for Service" flashes, the compressor auto-diagnostic has detected a problem with the outdoor unit. |
1.) See corrective action for "No Heating". 2.) See corrective action for "No Cooling". 3.) Replace thermostat. 4.) Check that the keypad lockout is not active (indicated by the □ icon). 5.) Contact a technician to check that the equipment is operating properly. |
Resetting the Thermostat or its Settings
If the thermostat batteries are good, but the thermostat displays nothing or does not respond to key presses, reset the thermostat by removing the batteries for 2 minutes. This will not reset the equipment settings or programs. If the problem persists after replacing the batteries, the thermostat will need to be replaced.
To reset only the schedule and settings to their factory defaults, simultaneously press and hold the Menu and Backlight buttons until the display clears and resets.
