2. BLOCK DIAGRAM

2-1. Audio Section

A block diagram illustrating the audio signal path, including tone control, microphone amplifier, protector circuit, and power amplifier.

2-2. Tuner Section

A block diagram showing the tuner section, encompassing FM and AM tuners, IF stages, discriminator, MPX PLL IC, and various meters.

2-3. Dolby Mode Section

Detailed diagrams for the Dolby FM and Dolby NR selector operations, showing signal flow for playback and recording.

3. OPERATION OF DOLBY FM SYSTEM

This Dolby Noise Reduction System Type B enhances the Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio in FM stereophonic broadcasts, improving audio performance. The system utilizes an IC NE545B for the main Dolby circuit. Key operational principles include a 25μs de-emphasis for FM-out, specific input levels for Dolby FM, and an internal 400Hz oscillator for Dolby Tone adjustment.

Principles: The S/N ratio in FM is affected by frequency and signal level. The system expands the middle and high range of low-level signals, which are then compressed proportionally by the receiver. The operating diagram is shown in Fig. 3-3.

Complementary items:

4. ADJUSTMENTS

4-1. Dolby Circuit Adjustment

4-1-1. Input Level Adjustment of Dolby IC (NE545B)

This procedure involves adjusting specific volume controls (VR01, VR02) using a VTVM to achieve a specified output level from the REC Terminal.

4-1-2. Calibration Tone Volume & Dolby Meter Volume Adjustment

This adjustment requires setting the Master Volume to minimum, connecting a VTVM to the front TAPE I REC terminal, and adjusting VR601 on the F-2655 circuit board to obtain 270mV. Subsequently, VR03 (L-CH) and VR04 (R-CH) are adjusted so the power meter indicator centers on the Dolby mark.

4-1-3. Dolby FM Volume Adjustment

This involves setting the selector to FM Auto, Dolby Selector to Dolby FM, and REC CAL. TONE Switch to OFF. The Master Volume is set to minimum. The adjustment is performed by setting the FM SSG output to specific levels and adjusting VR03 on the F-2654 circuit board to achieve the specified output level.

4-2. Adjustment of Audio Section

4-2-1. Power Meter Adjustment

The unit should be run for at least 4 minutes before adjustment. The procedure involves connecting a DC volt meter to the Speaker Terminals (L-CH and R-CH) and adjusting VR01 and VR02 on the F-2657 circuit board to set the meter position to 50W.

4-3. Adjustment of Tuner Section

4-3-1. FM Adjustment & Alignment

This section details the FM adjustment and alignment procedures using a Genescope and FM SSG. It involves connecting the Genescope output to specific test points (TP) and adjusting various coils and potentiometers (e.g., IF Coil, Muting Coil, Discriminator Coil, RF Adj., Signal Meter Volume, Distortion, Tune Meter Volume) to achieve optimal performance. The procedure includes specific frequency settings and measurement outputs.

4-3-2. AM IF Adjustment & Tracking

This procedure outlines the steps for adjusting and tracking the AM IF section, involving similar equipment and measurement techniques as the FM section, but focused on AM frequencies.
