1. Safety and Intended Use
1.1 Intended Use
The sensoNET VR 921 is a communication unit used to control your heating installation. It connects to your router via LAN or WLAN to establish an internet connection for the heating system.
Intended use includes:
- Observing accompanying operating, installation, and maintenance instructions for the product and other system components.
- Installing and setting up the product in accordance with product and system approval.
- Complying with all inspection and maintenance conditions listed in the instructions.
- Installation in accordance with the IP class.
The product can be used by children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, if they are supervised or have received instruction on safe use and understand the associated hazards. Children must not play with the product. Cleaning and user maintenance must only be carried out by supervised children.
Using the product with a power supply unit or connection cable not supplied or available as an accessory is considered improper use. Any use not specified in these instructions, or commercial/industrial use, is also deemed improper.
Improper use of any kind is prohibited.
1.2 Risk Caused by Inadequate Qualifications
The following work must only be carried out by competent persons:
- Set-up
- Dismantling
- Installation
- Start-up
- Inspection and maintenance
- Repair
- Decommissioning
Proceed in accordance with current technology.

1.3 Risk of Death from Electric Shock
There is a risk of death from electric shock if you touch live components.
Before commencing work:
- Unplug the mains plug.
- Disconnect the product from the power supply by switching off all power supplies (electrical partition with a contact gap of at least 3 mm, e.g., fuse or circuit breaker).
- Secure against being switched back on again.
- Wait at least 3 minutes for capacitors to discharge.
- Check that there is no voltage.
1.4 Qualification
Only qualified electricians may carry out electrical installation.
1.5 Risk of Material Damage Caused by Using an Unsuitable Tool
Use the correct tool.

1.7 Safety Warning – Power Supply Unit
- The provided power supply unit must only be used indoors.
- Do not operate the power supply unit in wet environments or in the rain.
- Do not operate if the power supply unit has visible damage or is defective.
- Keep the power supply unit, its parts, and packaging away from children.
- Connect the power supply unit only if the mains voltage matches the data plate information.
- Connect the power supply unit to an easily accessible plug socket for quick disconnection in case of a fault.
- The power supply unit heats up during operation; do not cover it and ensure sufficient ventilation.
- The outer connection cable cannot be replaced; if damaged, the entire unit must be scrapped.
- When using the VRA 42 power supply unit (accessory), install it in the boiler according to instructions and connect it to the unit PCB as per the boiler's installation instructions.

3. Product Description
3.1 CE Marking
The CE marking indicates compliance with the basic requirements of applicable directives as stated on the declaration of conformity.

3.2 Recycling and Disposal
If the product bears a specific symbol [recycle], it must not be disposed of with household waste. Take it to a collection point for recycling waste electrical or electronic equipment. Contact local authorities or your waste recycling centre for more information.

3.5 Requesting Licences
The product contains free and open-source software. Licence information is saved on the Wi-Fi gateway and accessible via the app.
Source code can be requested for a processing fee from: opensource@myvaillant.com. This offer is valid for three years from purchase or as long as Vaillant supports the Wi-Fi gateway.
4. Installation
4.1 Checking the Assembly and Installation Prerequisites
Ensure the following:
- WLAN signal is available (if WLAN operation is selected).
- LAN cable is available (if LAN operation is selected).
- eBUS line is accessible (if required).
- A free plug socket is available (if required).
- IP network has correct routing and security parameters (Ports 80, 123, 443, 8443 enabled for outgoing connections).
- Dynamic IP addressing (DHCP) is available.
- The installation site and cabling are not publicly accessible.
- An internet connection for permanent internet communication is available.
- The IP network has an activated and encrypted firewall (refer to technical data).
4.2 Wall Installation, Electrical Connection to the Plug Socket
Observe the installation steps in the illustrated instructions at the end of this document.
4.3 Alternative Electrical Connection to the Heat Generator (Extra Accessory Required)
- Remove the power supply unit and the eBUS connection cable.
- Install the connection cable (article number: 0020284732) for direct connection to the heat generator.
4.4 Connecting the Product to the Internet
- Ensure all additional system components (e.g., control) are operating when switching on the product.
- Briefly press the button in the product's terminal block. The product enters coupling mode for ten minutes.
- For further instructions, follow the corresponding app.
4.5 Meaning of the LEDs

4.6 Data Protection and Connecting to the Internet
Product functions are only available via the corresponding app. Accepting the T&Cs and Privacy Policy is required for app installation.
If connecting via LAN without the app, the product automatically sends the following technical data to the manufacturer's server:
- Product data (serial number, unit type, unit ID, etc.).
- Firmware data (version, update status, etc.).
- Connected heating system data (serial numbers, unit types, unit IDs, firmware versions, etc.).
A local network connection is required to connect with EEBUS-compatible products from third-party providers. The corresponding app must be used to start up these products.
When using EEBUS solutions from third-party providers, their T&Cs and Privacy Policy also apply to data collection and processing. The product manufacturer has no influence or liability in this regard.

5. Repair
5.1 Replacing the Power Supply Unit
Only use the original Vaillant power supply unit (article numbers: 0020116923 or 0020259111) for replacement.
The VRA 42 power supply unit must only be used if it can be correctly installed in the boiler's electronics box.
