Cleaning the unit while it is plugged in may result in electric shock, electric spark, and serious injury. Unplug the unit before cleaning or maintenance.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, read and understand this user guide before operating this appliance.

Note: To reduce the risk of electric shock, this product has a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other). The plug will only fit in a polarized outlet one way. If the plug does not fit properly, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact qualified personnel to install the proper outlet. Do not alter the plug in any way.

Features

The Oreck AirInstinct™ Air Purifier features the following components:

Control Panel Diagram Description: The control panel is a circular interface with numbered buttons and indicators. Number 1 points to the Display Panel. Number 2 points to the Power Button. Number 3 points to the AUTO Mode and Speed Button. Number 4 points to the Timer settings (1, 4, 8 hours). Number 5 points to the Air Indicator lights (blue, purple, red). Number 6 points to the Check Filter Light. Number 7 points to the Air Sensor area. Number 8 points to the Front Grille.

Unit Components:

Filter Diagram Description: Three rectangular filters are shown. The top filter (labeled 12) is the Pre-filter, appearing as a grid. The middle filter (labeled 13) is the Odor Filter, appearing granular. The bottom filter (labeled 14) is the HEPA Filter, appearing as a fine mesh grid.

Operation

Note: Make sure to open the cover and remove each filter's plastic packaging before turning the unit on. The order of filters is: pre-filter, odor filter, HEPA filter.

  1. Place: Place the air purifier on a solid surface. Do not block the grille with objects and remove candles or flames near the unit.
  2. Plug In: Plug into the nearest standard electrical outlet that accepts a polarized plug.
  3. Press: The power button turns the purifier On. Press and hold the POWER button for approximately two seconds to turn the purifier OFF.
  4. Select: Choose the desired air cleaning mode (manual or automatic) and the fan speed. The fan speed is controlled manually in manual mode or by the Air Sensor in automatic mode.

Maintenance

Manual Mode

A. Press and release the [Speed Button] for the desired fan speed: [Low Speed] ☀, [Medium Speed] ☁, [High Speed] ☂.

B. The indicator lights will display the speed.

Automatic (AUTO) Mode

Important: The Air Sensor is set to standard sensitivity when shipped from the factory. If you prefer the air purifier to adjust its speed more or less frequently, you can set the sensitivity of the Air Sensor (see page 14).

A. Press the [AUTO Button] to set the purifier in automatic mode. In automatic mode, the air purifier will self-adjust the fan speed. The auto mode indicator light will illuminate after the highest speed setting is pushed.

B. The indicator light will show when the unit has reached auto mode.

Cleaning and Filter Replacement Intervals

WARNING! Cleaning the unit while it is plugged in may result in electric shock, electric spark, and serious injury. Unplug the unit before cleaning or maintenance.

Proper care and cleaning of the air purifier is critical to performance. The following chart shows the recommended cleaning intervals and method.

Replacing the Filters

IMPORTANT: Always remove the protective plastic packaging from the filter before installing the filter.

  1. Unplug the air purifier.
  2. Open the cover by gently pulling from the bottom corners.
  3. Press the two hooks above the pre-filter and pull straight out of the cabinet. Remove the used odor filter and HEPA filter. Thoroughly rinse the pre-filter and let it air dry before placing it back in the cabinet. Note: Do not use heated or compressed air as part of the drying process.
  4. Remove the plastic bag from the filters.
  5. Place the filters back in the cabinet in the following order: HEPA filter, odor filter, and pre-filter. Note: Insert the odor filter into the pre-filter frame before inserting into the unit.
  6. Replace the cover by connecting at the top and securing at the bottom.

Filter Reset Mode

1. When the indicator light comes on, the odor, HEPA, or both indicator lights will illuminate, indicating which filter needs to be replaced.

2. After installing a new or replacement filter, press and hold the reset button for approximately two seconds.

Forced Reset Mode

If you have replaced a filter before the filter replacement light is illuminated:

  1. Press and hold the reset button for 2 seconds.
  2. Push the reset button to select the desired filter to forcibly reset. Push once for the odor filter and twice for the HEPA filter.
  3. To complete the forced reset, press and hold the reset button for approximately 2 seconds.

If 10 seconds have passed in the forced reset mode, the forced reset mode is cancelled.

Cleaning the Air Sensor

WARNING! Cleaning the unit while it is plugged in may result in electric shock, electric spark, and serious injury. Unplug the unit before cleaning or maintenance.

  1. Open the air sensor cover on the side of the product.
  2. Clean the air inlet, outlet vents, and air sensor.

    Description: The air inlets are located at the bottom front, and air outlets are at the top rear. The air sensor is typically located near the inlets.

  3. Wet a cotton swab lightly and clean the lens, dust inlet, and dust outlet. After cleaning, use a dry cotton swab to remove any moisture.

    Description: This step involves cleaning the sensor's lens and dust collection points with a damp swab, followed by drying.

Note: Without regular cleaning, the sensor will decline in performance.

Adjusting the Air Sensor

The purifier is shipped with the Air Sensor set to standard sensitivity. Adjust the sensitivity of the sensor if you want the air purifier to adjust its fan setting in Auto Mode more or less frequently.

To adjust the sensitivity of the Air Sensor:

  1. Turn the power On.
  2. Press and hold the Auto/Speed button for two seconds.
  3. The speed indicator blinks according to the current sensitivity of the air sensor.
  4. Press the Auto/Speed button for the desired sensitivity:
    • Low: Sensitive
    • Medium: Standard
    • High: Insensitive
  5. Press and hold the Auto/Speed button for two seconds to set the sensor.

Note: If ten seconds have passed while in the setting mode, the new setting will automatically be set.

Troubleshooting

Service problems that appear to be major can often be solved easily. You can be your own troubleshooter by reviewing this guide. All other servicing should be done by an Oreck authorized service center.

Warranty

ORECK MANUFACTURING COMPANY: (Oreck Manufacturing Company gives you the following limited warranty for this product only if it was originally purchased by you for residential use, not for resale, from Oreck or an Oreck Authorized Retail Dealer.)

Oreck will repair or replace, free of charge, to the original purchaser, any part that is found to be defective in material or workmanship within three (3) years following the date of purchase for all residential models. NOTE: If the unit is used commercially, a one (1) year overall warranty applies.

This limited warranty does not cover the replacement of expendable or consumable parts such as filters, cartridges, and other parts subject to normal wear unless they are defective in material or workmanship.

This limited warranty does not apply to any part subjected to accident, abuse, commercial use, alteration, misuse, damage caused by act of God, the use of voltages other than on the data plate of this product, or service of this product by other than Oreck or a participating Factory Authorized Service Center.

Oreck does not authorize any person or representative to assume or grant any other warranty obligation with the sale of this product.

Oreck's limited warranty is valid only if you retain proof of purchase from Oreck or an Oreck Authorized Retail Dealer for this product. If you purchase this product from any other source, your purchase is “AS IS,” which means Oreck grants you no warranty, and that you, not Oreck, assume the entire risk of the quality and performance of this product, including the entire cost of any necessary servicing or repairs of any defects.

Oreck's liability for damages to you for any costs whatsoever arising out of this statement of limited warranty shall be limited to the amount paid for this product at the time of original purchase, and Oreck shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, consequential, or incidental damages arising out of the use or inability to use this product. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

ALL EXPRESS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES OTHER THAN THE LIMITED WARRANTY SET FORTH ABOVE, FOR THIS PRODUCT, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE ARE EXPRESSLY DENIED.
