Overview

The Protech QM7320 Fuel Cell Breathalyser features:

[Image Description: A handheld digital breathalyser device with a black screen displaying '0.053 % BAC'. Below the screen are three buttons labeled with icons: a left arrow, a power symbol, and a right arrow. Labels point to the Mouthpiece Slot, LCD Display, Left-button, Right-button, and Power (Center) button.]

Before First Use

Before using the product, read all safety and operating instructions thoroughly. Keep the original packaging for storage. Find a safe and convenient place for this instruction manual. Unpack the product and keep all packaging materials until you confirm the product is undamaged and in good working order.

Getting Started

Battery Installation

The tester requires one (1) AA Alkaline battery. To install, press down with little pressure and slide the battery cover from the back of the unit. Install the battery and close the cover. It is recommended to use NEW alkaline batteries.

15 Minute Observation Period

It is suggested to wait 15 minutes after smoking or drinking, and rinse your mouth with water before using the unit. Failing to wait enough time may result in fluctuating high readings that gradually drop, due to alcohol residue in the mouth. This can also potentially damage the sensor.

WARNING: Failure to wait 15 minutes could give inaccurate test results and damage the sensor!

[Visual Description: Three circular icons representing the observation period: a clock face with hands indicating 15 minutes, a crossed-out drinking glass, and a crossed-out cigarette.]

Optimal Accuracy at Room Temperature

For optimal accuracy, conduct breath tests at room temperature. Store the unit in a room temperature environment when not in use to maintain sensor health. Avoid using or storing the unit under extreme temperature settings (e.g., inside a car during extreme summer or winter temperatures).

Taking a Breath Test

Insert a Mouthpiece

Insert a mouthpiece firmly into the slot. Additional mouthpieces can be purchased from your distributor.

NOTE: Tests conducted without a mouthpiece may yield inaccurate results. Using a mouthpiece for every test is recommended.

Breath Testing Modes (Automatic/Manual)

The breathalyser supports both Automatic and Manual tests.

Conducting a Breath Test

Press the [Power Button] for 2 seconds to turn on the unit. The unit initiates a sensor warm-up process, and a timer starts counting down.

Taking an Automatic Test

When "rdy" (Ready) is displayed with a beep, take a deep breath and blow into the mouthpiece moderately, at a constant speed and pressure.

The display will show "[---" and a continuous beep indicates proper breath flow. At the end of the breath flow (approx. 5 seconds), the tester automatically takes the sample.

Continue blowing until you hear two 'click' sounds, signaling a successful sampling process.

The tester analyzes the sample, displaying "[---" (Calculating). The BAC result will be displayed shortly after.

Taking a Manual Test

When "rdy" (Ready) is displayed with a beep, you can manually start the breath sample collection by pressing the [Left Button]. The manual test mode starts, and the display shows "L. ---" with a continuous beep.

Take a deep breath and blow into the mouthpiece moderately, at a constant speed and pressure.

Continue blowing until you hear two 'click' sounds, signaling a successful sampling process.

The tester analyzes the sample, displaying "[---" (Calculating). The BAC result will be displayed shortly after.

Read the Results

BAC results are displayed in formats like (‰, %, mg/l) according to your country's specific display format. Press the [Left Button] to cycle through display formats.

The BAC result remains on display for 30 seconds before the unit automatically turns off. You can also turn off the unit by pressing and holding the [Power Button] for 3 seconds.

Suggested Wait Time Between Tests

After completing a test, it is recommended to wait at least a few minutes (preferably 5-10 minutes) before taking another test. This prevents the sensor from becoming saturated and maintains its healthy state.

Test Record Memory Mode

Recall Cumulative Test Count

During countdown, press the [Power Button] to display the cumulative test count (number of tests performed). To reset this counter, long-press the [Left Button] until the counter shows zero.

NOTE: Recalibration is recommended annually or after 300 tests, whichever comes first.

Recall Previous Test Results (up to 16 records)

Press the [Power Button] again to display the latest test record (indicated by '1' on screen, followed by the result). Press the [Left Button] to sequentially display up to the 16th test record history. Press the [Right Button] to view records in backward order.

To exit the test record memory mode, press the [Power Button] again to return to the countdown screen.

System Message

DisplayCause and Course of Action
HThis message means the unit detected an out-of-range high alcohol concentration (above 4.00‰BAC / 0.400%BAC / 2.00 mg/L).
FloThis message (Flow) means insufficient or uneven blowing is detected. Kindly perform another test.
SnrThis message means Sensor Not Ready. It happens when a high concentration of alcohol residue or pollutant is found on the sensor from the last test. Kindly switch off the unit and wait a few minutes before conducting the next test.
rPtThis message (Repeat) means the unit could not complete a test. Kindly repeat another test.
OutThis message means the test was conducted in either too cold or too hot temperature environment. Please bring the unit back to a normal room temperature environment. Suggest waiting a few minutes for the sensor inside the unit to stabilize to room temperature condition before conducting a re-test.
LoThis message means Low Battery. Replace with new AA alkaline batteries.

Precautions

Maintenance

To keep the unit in good condition, use it at least once a month. The breathalyser is calibrated during manufacture using advanced alcohol simulation equipment. Known alcohol concentrations are passed through the sensor to set baseline values. During testing, the unit compares user's breath samples to these baseline values.

The accuracy of breath alcohol testers can fluctuate after six to twelve months of normal use, depending on the number of tests performed and operating conditions. If the product provides inconsistent results, no results, or unusually high or low results, it should be recalibrated.
