I/O Ports Overview
The router features the following ports and controls on its rear panel:
- DCIN port: For connecting the power adapter.
- 10G WAN/LAN (Internet) port: A high-speed port for your internet connection or a 10 Gigabit LAN connection.
- USB 3.2 Gen 1 port (USB 3.0 port): For connecting USB storage devices or printers.
- USB 2.0 port: For connecting USB devices.
- WPS button: Press to initiate Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
- Reset button: Press and hold to restore factory default settings.

LED Lights Overview
The router is equipped with several indicator lights to show its status:
- Power LED: Indicates the power status of the router.
- 2.4GHz LED: Indicates activity on the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band.
- 5GHz LED: Indicates activity on the 5GHz Wi-Fi band.
- USB LED: Indicates activity on the USB ports.
- 10G LED: Indicates the status of the 10G port.
- WAN (Internet) LED: Shows the status of the internet connection.
- LAN LEDs: Indicate the connection status of the LAN ports.
Router Setup Steps
01 Prepare your Modem
Before connecting the router, prepare your existing modem:
- Unplug the power cable from your modem. If it has a battery backup, remove the battery.
- Connect your modem to the WAN port on the back of the ASUS RT-BE86U router using the provided network cable.
- Plug the modem back into a power outlet and turn it on.
- Check the modem's LED lights to ensure the internet connection is active.
02 Install your Router
Connect and power on the router:
- Plug the power adapter into the router's DCIN port and press the Power switch.
- The Power LED will illuminate, indicating that the hardware is ready for setup.
Note: If you are using DSL for your internet service, you will need to obtain your username and password from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to properly configure the router.
Setup Methods
You can set up your router using either the ASUS Router mobile app or a web browser.
Via App
- On your iOS or Android mobile device, go to your device's app store, search for "ASUS Router", and download the app.
- Connect your mobile device to the default network SSID shown on the product label on the back of the router. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code on the product label to connect to the default network.
- Launch the ASUS Router App and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the router setup.
The default Network Name (SSID) is typically "ASUS XX", where "XX" refers to the last two digits of the MAC address, which can be found on the label on the back of your router.
Or via Web Browser
- Connect your computer to one of the router's LAN ports (LAN 2-4) at the back using an additional network cable. Alternatively, connect wirelessly to the network using the default SSID shown on the product label (e.g., "ASUS_XX").
- Open a web browser on your connected computer or mobile device.
- Navigate to
http://www.asusrouter.com
. The system may automatically redirect you to the ASUS Setup Wizard. If not, manually enter the address. - Follow the instructions provided by the ASUS Setup Wizard to complete the configuration.
Gain Another 10GE LAN Port
Set up 2.5GE WAN connection
To enable an additional 10 Gigabit LAN port, you need to configure the 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet (2.5GE) WAN connection:
- Under factory default settings, connect your modem to the router's 2.5GE WAN port using a network cable.
- When the ASUS Setup Wizard appears, select "Manual Setting".
- In the wizard, choose "2.5G WAN" as the connection type. Follow the subsequent prompts to set up your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and login credentials.
Start to Use
After completing the setup steps, the router will reboot briefly and then begin connecting to the internet via the 2.5GE port.
